This baldur's gate playthrough really takes me back to the skyrim days -- more than starfield even does. For a game that seems like it should have fewer options (since most things are handled by dialogue choice), there are so many avenues to be completely unhinged.

I was impressed the mad multiple fail states, that is why a real RPG is so hard to make. You are trying to play a character, not just a guy who fits a role in an adventuring party. This game gave me options to explore rather than just a single goal to achieve. The quest log is a spiders web of story's that stick with you and have a dark depth. Nothing feels cut and dry.

BG3's story is that 3 losers used a stolen crown to control a brain, except also they didn't because the brain tricked them. The dialogue and moment to moment writing are great, but the main story is pretty bad. It starts strong, but the introduction of Gortash and Orin kills the momentum of the game going into act 3 and then act 3 itself just doesn't have any good conclusions to any of the content from act 1 or 2. I think overall quest quality is also in Starfield's favor, as well as general freedom. I can't just fuck off to Baldur's gate in act 1, but I could fuck off to anywhere in Starfield whenever I want. Both are fantastic games that offer very different experiences.
