I was told that a shed antler with a skull tissue on it can be bad for that buck the following year might not grow or hurt him in some way ? There are some videos on KZbin about shed traps how bad there are on antler growth for the following year because of the skull thing issues I know i just watch videos to learn things on deer . I love shed hunting and I was confused a lot on some deer never grew one side for a year . I watch old bucks depreciate

Negative ghost rider ! It is mostly due to poor soil quality and food . Don't get me wrong genetics do play a part but not that much of it . You could take a deer with the best genetics and put him in a place where it's poor soil and poor food quality and he will never meet his potential . Now take a deer from a poor soil region where deer just don't get that big because the nutrition isn't there and he will grow a big rack given he makes it to maturity . If it starts with the pregnant doe getting the proper nutrition and the buck fawn can maintain the nutrition up until maturity then the potential of that deer growing big antlers increases exponentially ! I live in Mississippi and MSU has done years long studies on deer from 3 parts of the state in different soil quality regions and prove that soil and food quality play more of a roll in antler size than genetics as well as body size . Very interesting video .
