My wife is a dietitian, now retired. I remember her telling me all these things across the years, with the same updates, in the same order, and with the same increasing frustration. Indeed, I remember her using the exact SAME form of words.. "..turns out there are *two* forms of cholesterol." I showed her this. For some reason she didn't think it was funny.

A friend of mine worried about food so much she was anorexic and when she was close to death. some friends stepped in and said “what do you want to eat? Pick anything!“ and she said “a burger” year’s went by and she ended up gaining a little too much weight but at least she wasn’t starving anymore. later she found a balance with Whole Foods and home cooking and got healthy on her own

@@itismethatguy I agree. Even though I have "bad" nutrition, I'm against alcohol. I don't like alcohol not because of its harm for health, but because of the fact it causes affection and changes your consciousness. Part of the trouble is that some of the popular media pick up tenuous study results from journals, and then greatly oversimplify/overstate the findings. The actual scientists rarely make the sweeping claims because they are aware of the limitations of their studies.

exactly my experience as MD. When I studied at the university, eggs were a complete nogo. When I came to the hospital, eggs were ok a little bit but butter was pure poison. Then it was the bread, not the butter. Then veggie was the best you ever can do to your body. Then veggie with a little meat. Then suddenly red meat was the deadliest thing ever because of L-Carnitine. Then it depended on your micro-flora in your colon. Now it's genetics with micro-flora. ;)

My opinion in this whole "eat this, avoid that" is that YOU are the one who should know what is good for you. It is very much genetical - your bloodpressure, your weight, how fast and in what way you lose or gain fat. It's what makes weightloss and a healthy lifetstile so tricky - no one can really tell you exactly what you need.

HaHA This is great!🤣 I was there through all that crap nonsense. i grew up in farm country. I never climbed on any food bandwagon. I researched, took my long personal experience, and put it together myself. I never stopped eating eggs, milk, and butter. I never started margarine - Seriously! Crap and Yuck! I DID exercise, and always will, tho menopause humbled me on the limitations of that one. But it IS hugely important to help with whatever shreds of body health we have left.There's good science and bad science. It's worth researching, it's basic intelligence to know what goes in our bodies. My own experience is the final answer for me. I get my food straight from the farmers, i pay less, I choose my farmers and they treat their animals and land very well. Food tastes better, they charge me less than the supermarket (I pay them more than they charge). Eggs, steak and butter in reasonable amounts taste great to me and I feel good afterwards. Bread tastes like heaven - and makes me feel like crap. That's me - that's not something I should be pushing on anyone else. I still have weekend bread, cuz i love it so much - then a heavy, play-doh in my tum-tum nap afterwards. Hey, remember the people saying adult humans shouldn't drink milk cuz adult animals don't? O for brainless twitedness 🤪 I'd ask those people if they see animals cooking their food. Or using knives and forks. Or refrigerators. With their faulty reasoning, they'd best start eating it raw off the dirty ground after it's full of salmonella. The lack of reasoning ability never ceases to amaze 🙄

Exactly how I feel. I’d be damned to be stressing about what I should & shouldn’t eat based on what “they” say. One minute it’s this, the next it’s something else. Moderation is key. I have ancestors who have lived long, healthy lives, eating whatever the hell they want. I do agree processed food isn’t the best for you. But as long as you know where your food is coming from (farmers market) and how it’s being prepared, you will be fine. I have nothing against vegans but that lifestyle is simply not for me. Drink your water, exercise, and eat in moderation. Im no expert but this is my take on it. Food makes me happy and I think happiness also contributes to you living longer 🤣

Maybe eat what you like with moderation. Or be careful (more mindful and informed) of what you eat but don't become too dogmatic about it. I think the primary problem is we have excessive amount of food and with much more amount of sugar or fat or processed carbs (whatever one thinks the poison is). Our ancestors did actually eat what they liked, it was just hard to find, especially so big amounts of energy condensed.
@Zhalfrin
@Zhalfrin 7 жыл бұрын
Arun Sharma "we don't know what's good for us" frankly, this is a load of bullshit. The scientific consensus (and thus what dietetic organisations and the WHO recommends) is that the diet should be rich in whole plant foods (fruits vegetables wholegrains beans legumes nuts seeds all minimally processed), low in saturated fat and cholesterol (meaning minimising fatty animal food), with minimising red and processed meat. Avoid and greatly minimise processed food('junk food'). This has been known for decades, but scientific progress is somewhat necessarily slow. And actually, the trend in the guidelines is toward even more plants in the diet, as evidence shows these types of diets have powerful protective and risk reducing properties.
@ArunSharma84
@ArunSharma84 7 жыл бұрын
Optimus6128 Absolutely. Eat in moderation in the mantra. People keep talking about low cholesterol and then 5 years later, realise that cholesterol was indeed not all that bad. Similarly, sugar is blamed for everything bad that has happened to the mankind, whereas now we have the concept of natural sugar and processed sugar. WHO is not an authority on what's right to eat; it also relies on scientific "advancements" that keep updating themselves atleast twice a year.

- [Narrator] Gadoosh. (classic rock) (toilet flushing) - Oh, you’re terrible! (portal opening) - Wait! (gasping) Stop! Don’t eat that food! - Who are you? What are you doing in our house? - I’m from the future. I’m here to warn you, don’t eat that food. - Why not? - The eggs, they’re full of cholesterol. - What? - Cholesterol it, it clogs up your arteries. Eating even just one egg can dramatically increase your chance of heart attack. Don’t eat eggs! - Oh, my God. Thank you. - You’re welcome. Godspeed. (dramatic music) (portal closing) - Well I guess I better take those eggs. (portal opening) - Wait! Stop! - [Woman] You’re back! - Yeah, we were wrong about the eggs. - Well it turns out there’s two types of cholesterol. - How? There’s good cholesterol and bad cholesterol, and eggs actually have both. So you can eat eggs but just don’t eat the egg yolks. So stick with the egg whites. - Yes, thank you. (intense music) - Godspeed! (portal closing) (portal opening) Wait! We were wrong about the eggs. - Again? - Yeah. Yeah, okay so it turns out that the amount of cholesterol in a food doesn’t actually affect how much cholesterol ends up in your blood. The eggs are probably fine. In fact we sort of don’t even know what… cholesterol is. But the steak! You can’t eat the steak! - Why not? - Turns out that red meat increases your chance of heart attack. You have to cut out red meat. So no steak! - Thank you. (intense music) - Godspeed. - What, no. No steak, Mister. - Wait. (portal opening) - Wait! We were wrong about the steak! It’s the toast. Man was not meant to eat bread. - What do you mean man was not meant to eat bread? - Well if you think about it, human beings should really only be eating what our paleolithic ancestors ate. So, therefore, no bread, no toast. - How do you know what our paleolithic ancestors ate? - Well, we just have to guess. Right, I mean we don’t have any way of knowing wha- (portal closing) (sighing) (portal opening) - Woo! Okay, went back to the paleolithic. They are… not doing well. I don’t know what we were thinking. If anything we should all be eating a lot more bread. Geez! So I guess just um, ignore everything I’ve said and exercise. - Exercise, okay. - Yeah. You guys could probably use it. You’ve been sitting just sitting here for the last 35 years. - It’s been five minutes. - Right. Time travel. Alright, well, Godspeed! (dramatic music) (portal opening) Turns out it’s genetic. Doesn’t matter whether you exercise or what you eat. I’m sorry I ruined your meal. - I need 10 minutes. Woo! - Do you want some eggs? - I’d love some.

@SergyOrloff 6 жыл бұрын
Hasn't changed YET. I am sure there will be new results, mostly about what type of vegetables you should eat, what type you should avoid and so on, and advice probably would depend on your genetics too... It can become even "no vegetables" for some people.
@joelhenderson3723
@joelhenderson3723 5 жыл бұрын
@@SergyOrloff Nonetheless, if you're looking for a general rule to healthy eating, Michael Polan said it best: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." The benefits of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, is one of the only things that has stayed consistent over the past 60+ years, and has absolutely tremendous research to back it up.
@losgryfog
@losgryfog 5 жыл бұрын
@@joelhenderson3723 the thing is...that's how people have ALWAYS eaten. McDonalds even serves you a vegetable with every meal, and that vegetable (potato) is HALF the meal, they even offered people the option of MORE vegetable (super size), super size didn't give you more meat, it gave you more potatoes. people saw a movie and decided they didn't like that, so that made McDonalds give people the same amount of meat, the same amount of sugar drink...but less vegetable. people felt better about that, go figure.
@joelhenderson3723
@joelhenderson3723 5 жыл бұрын
@@losgryfog And there's nothing wrong with potatoes. But sure, if that's your only plant-food, and you only eat them skin off, deep-fried, you're not doing yourself any favors. The quip I cited boils it down to the barest pieces. If you want more specific advice, it can be expanded (although it becomes less pithy). It can be as complicated as you want it to be, but the general advice of plenty of fruits and vegetables will remain the same. To answer your particular gripe, I would say that more properly, the quote should read "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants, and especially a wide variety, including nuts, seeds, leafy greens, roots, etc.- even better if they're raw or gently cooked."
