This year's September in Finland was probably the warmest in recorded history - like extended summer. The autumn properly came in early October, at least in Southern Finland, when it usually comes in September. I don't know what route you took, but with that kind of route plan, I think visiting Nordkapp, the Northernmost place in Europe, would have been a good idea, either by following Teno river west and turning North to E6, or following E6 downstream Teno river to where it meets the Arctic Ocean and continue to Nordkapp from there. Then following E6 west and coming back to Finland via Kilpisjärvi or go a bit further west to Sweden. People say that the road between Kilpisjärvi and Nordkapp has some fantastic scenery of mountains and fjords. Nordkapp is like 6 hour drive from Utsjoki, so there's some distance, but the scenery along the way is part of the journey.

Here is random Finnish physics fact: During winter every car, truck and train is actually shorter than during the summer. So the Train that you guys use actually shrinks and also if you are using a car in Lapland it shrinks too. But when you guys leave Finland and take a train from Rovaniemi to Helsinki, than without adding any railroad cars to the train, it can actually grow. Because metal expand when it's warm and shrinks when it's winter or cold. So with luck if Rovaniemi has -10 celsius and Helsinki has +10 celsius than train either grows or shrinks up to 6 mm per railroad car and locomotive can grow 4,4 mm, if it's made from steel.

No it wasn't. Or not at least ever when that tourist attraction has been there. Maybe tens of thousands of years ago when land had not been moving (those longitudes don't really change otherwise what they write there). Actual artic circle would have been too far for tourists that stop there just couple of hours and fly back home.

@@LTS79 The arctic circle indeed moves because of the changing axial tilt of Earth (the angle between the direction of Earth's axis of rotation and the plane of Earth's orbit around the Sun). Swimming in the Arctic Ocean is a bucket list thing to do. About seeing a moose, It might be moose hunting season in Lapland. After last year's hunting season there were estimated 84 000 of them in Finland. You probably wouldn't guess while driving through, but Sodankylä is known for the annual Midnight Sun Film Festival. It has been held since 1986 when the star guest at the festival was director Samual Fuller. During the festivals a street in Sodankylä is named after him as Samuel Fuller Street. A video about that with an interview with Fuller: "Ensimmäiset filmifestarit Sodankylässä. First film festival in Sodankylä1986". The festival has since seen some notable film makers, E.g. Francis Ford Coppola in 2002 and Milos Forman in 2008. A more recent video about the festival: "MIDNIGHT SUN FILM FESTIVAL SODANKYLÄ (Welcome To Finland 4)".

Ivalo 😢.. The place where I joined the Border Guard Jaegers (military service) 😢😢. We used to go to one specific lake and take up granade /artillery shells, that was unexplored and that the Germans threw in the lake. That little lake was not deep at all, so we had small rubber rafts and we just picked them up from that lake, because it have sunken into the mud, but the shells where just like they where thrown into the lake yesterday. So we used to set a fire and throw some shells into it, and wait for the explosion behind a big stone, that was only about 15 to 20 meter away.. The explosion was amazing 😂😂😂... The lake will still have these shells for sure.. They where to empty that some years after the war came to an end. But the diver came up and said that it was too dangerous to touch anything... It was not only shells, but "Panzerfaust" and normal bullets to ordinary weapons 😊

There were still a lot of moose in the 80s and 90s, but nowadays, especially along the big roads, they have disappeared. There are still 15,000-20,000 moose in the forests in Lapland alone, so you should be careful. They usually move at dusk, and that's also when the most crashes happen. Now is moose hunting time, which means a moose may run onto the road at any time and it always comes really fast and doesn't stop when it has decided to go. You should not try to dodge reindeer or smaller animals very strongly, because then the possibility of running out and causing a bigger accident increases greatly. A moose is always dodged from behind because it doesn't turn or twist like a reindeer

Moose are gladly rare, they don't really often get out of the forest, fields etc. Pretty sure I can count the times seeing a moose with one hand. Since they are big, the moose crashes can be bad, hence the warnings, good to be alert when there is a moose alert, they also show how many kilometers there are without moose fence. For traffic rules, STOP is an actual stop compared to US where it is more like a yield sign. Also if you are outside main roads, beware of traffic coming from the right. If they don't have a yield sign, they may have the right of way. This could mostly means smaller roads inside towns, they are rare in the North. Norway is pretty strict with speeding.

I really don't like listening to you talking about wanting to see a moose by the roadside... I've never heard Finnish people saying that they'd want to see one when driving, because that's like wishing for a car accident. There are dash cam videos where people encounter a moose, and you really can't see it until the car crashes into it. In a slo-mo instant replay you can see where it comes from, but they blend into the background and it happens so fast that people usually don't have any chance to react to it.
