Perfect timing with those two mods... to do them at the same time.... and with the weekend trip. The Story Till Now is a great channel and they should have way more sub's! Cheers! stay safe and have fun.

You should do more in depth install videos, for a lot of us who might want to do these types of upgrades it would be nice to have a step-by-step walkthrough one how to do it.

With the suspension unfortunately I don't have the time, experience, or space to do a full suspe install. Perhaps one day when I get back over to Epic Adventure Outfitters we can walk through an install on video.

I had the front and ended up cutting it up. It is way too intrusive. Causing more hang ups than the benefit. Now just protects the very bottom and drain plug but got rid of the ski portion in the front. Much better now. Completely removed my metal Cloak rear, same issue. Way too intrusive. May fab or look for something more like the Currie Axle skids. Curious if you still have them on today? Friends kept telling me when spotting that that was much of my hanging up issues. Idea of protection is good, however needs to be minimalist in design.
@Casey2503 жыл бұрын
I still have them. Haven't caused any issues for me but I haven't hit hard rock obstacles and such.

I'm on the fence too, not sure if the skids are worth it... Even where it does take the hit, where will thay force transfer to? I may just do covers and call it good enough

I have those Rancho diff skid plates. They have already saved me a few times on the trail. I don't stress as much now going over rocks. I still pick lines and try to avoid rocks every chance I get but if I do hit something I have a better chance of making it off the trail at the end of the day.

Great mods just a question why not use jks adjustable coil spacer then you can dail it in front and rear if the load changes
@Casey2504 жыл бұрын
Not something I had thought of. However, the spacers were $25 and really, I want to get properly loaded springs in to get the best ride I can. I'd prefer to not be overloading or messing around with the coil rate of springs.

Dude.. great video as usual... but it sounded like you where not going to show the install of diff plate and diff skid plate... I hope you do because that’s why we watch your channel.. to see it installed not how it looks afterwards. That’s for buying a diesel Andy
@Casey2504 жыл бұрын
Don't worry - I have a follow up video planned as.. I need to do a bit of modification to the front diff slider to make it fit with the Spicer diff cover and so it didn't make it on before the trip. I appreciate everyone watching the videos. I try to upload install videos but I also like to talk about parts, and vlog my adventures so there is a bit of variety on the channel.

A lot of the reason for various mods comes from experience, which means some times I get a mod I like, and sometimes I get one I don't. I like to try stuff out, nothing is forever.

He see what happened to the light build you were talking about you're losing ground clearance now and adding a ton of weight. What's the percentage of wheelers that actually do significant damage to their diff where it leaves them inoperable. I think you're doing Overkill and going opposite of your first intentions of ultra light should have just gone with standard heavy beadlocks would suit you better than all this unnecessary armor just my opinion.
@mattbrew114 жыл бұрын
Ultra light and a 4 door jeep with a diesel is a conflicting statement. To answer your question, countless Jeepers and offroad enthusiasts (me included) have damaged differentials before. The covers can get certainly get crushed causing $1000 worth of ring gear damage and leaving you stranded and the lips can catch which if you’re lucky means you only get a small diff oil leak and if you’re unlucky, means the diff itself cracks or commonly on the JL, the drain plug turns or gets marred to the point it’s either stuck in forever or can’t be righted Additionally the spicer covers actually increase the strength of the diff casing and behind 37”+ tires and the torque of a diesel, is a very good thing
@Casey2504 жыл бұрын
One of other goals is also to keep mods 'reversible' so that I can take them off if I don't feel like they are benefiting. The actual weight of the diff covers over stock wasn't a large increase. As well, I think of all the places to add weight, on the axle is probably the best as it helps lower your center of gravity. It is much different then rotational mass on wheels, or sprung weight above the suspension. Smacking a diff cover into the ring gear is a real problem, especially on stumps around here you might now see so the front cover is a easy mod to justify. As for the diff sliders, I want to give them a try and they come off really quickly if I want, but that drain plug issue on the front diff is a real issue that I wanted to avoid. To keep the weight down I am trying to add aluminium where I can, hopefully with aluminum sliders and skid plates. Definitely not going with steel fenders, sliders etc. And if I ever swap bumpers to something lighter up front it would be aluminum, and probably just delete the rear bumper. However, the diesel is a beast on the highway and trail so far and is crushing it with fuel economy and performance.
