Riding the 2023 Sherco 300SEF. These are the trails that inspired me to get a four stroke when I first rode them last year. This bike is so much fun on these open flowing trails.

Can’t agree more about having the best of both worlds. I have a Beta 300RR for the single track, technical tight stuff and a Yamaha WR 450 for dual track and the trails where you can really crank it. Love em both! Cheers, and thanks for another great video!

Japanese manufacturers need to take note: 300-400cc 4t, 6 speed, use a bore and stroke configuration that will resist flame out, forget CA regs, and of course put a big dose of Japanese reliability in the build. = Then sell millions😮

KTM 200's are my Jam for this stuff, my '22 YZ250F would be fine, but not be as joyful, for me. BTW, the STIC carb metering replacement block in my 200SX allows the option for exceptional short shifting. So it has more options than stock. No other engine mods needed.

Two strokes are always trying to climb up on the pipe they don't like to hold a steady RPM no matter if they're carbureted fuel injected or what you do that's just the nature of the beast great for on-and-off throttle but for holding a steady RPM they suck

@garthlundquist3623
@garthlundquist3623 Жыл бұрын
You will really miss the 500. I have a 2021 XCF-W that weights less than my new 2024 TE 300. I ride the 500 in the tightest, steepest gnar here in the PNW and BC. Properly set up, it finds traction where the 300 struggles. The 500 is also plated, and by swapping the rear wheel with a dual sport spec wheel fitted with the appropriate tire and sprocket it handles 150 mile exploration days. The 350 is not as versatile: the lower gearing and higher revving engine makes it much less comfortable at higher speeds. The 500 also is very reliable and durable. Expect 800 hours out of the top end if you take care of it properly.

@@garthlundquist3623 Couldn't agree more. Have a 22 500 xcfw and a 21 TE 300. Found myself riding the 500 more and more even in rocky rooty slick technical terrain. Just sold my 300. The 500 is really a versital bike. Feels a little heavier but tractors through everything.
@garthlundquist3623
@garthlundquist3623 Жыл бұрын
A big difference between the two is range to empty. I can go over 100 miles on the stock tank on my 2021 500 XCF-W. The 300 2T bikes see 50-60 miles to empty. This really matters if you like to explore new areas alone.

Greg, at the risk of offending you, I suggest that you watch other 4t's on this type of terrain. With todays modern, FI 4t's you don't need to do all that "2t blipping" that you are doing. With 4t's, you're on the throttle or on the brakes. I'm no pro by a long shot, but it took me 6 months of only a 4t to stop riding it like a 2t. One more thing, when coming into those tight turns,, use mor clutch and keep the throttle more consistent. It will make that great flow even flower. Again, don't mean to criticize, only help a brother out.

I'd like a low strung 400 4t with Six Gears, and large oil capacity, with long services intervals built in mind. I don't like these modern, high strung, maintenance heavy race bikes that cost a fortune for rebuilds. No manufactures seems to have any desire to make such a bike, so two strokes only for me until that happens.

I grew up on old school aircooled 4 strokes, my dad and I spent a lot of time fooling around with Honda 230's adding better suspension and brakes, more power etc... They're a little porky but they're an absolute weapon in tight PNW single track. I inherited his CRF250X last year and holy cow is that thing not amusing in tight single track.
