As a supporter/defender main, I was surprised I actually find that I have a better win rate when I'm the one using attacker pokemon this season. I do my best using defender / supporter pokemon but end up losing badly because my carries have no idea what they are doing most of the time. It's a bit of "fine, I'll do it myself" when I end up carrying when I pick attacker instead.

I can heavily relate to that even tho I'm a only 1 week+ old player. I'm mainly a delphox main and it's rather frustrating sometimes when you're ending up having to carry the team because either you get the ones that are bad at the game or ones that aren't taking it seriously, especially the matchmaking. I'm on expert 3 and for whatever reason the game decides to throw a 1 or 2 rank veteran of not close to an ultra in my face just for the spite of it I have played almost 30 battles with delphox (most of them being in ranked ofc) and i lost 3 times in total. You gotta have such amount of patience and tactics as an attacker when you're the only one trying your best not to let the table be turned against you.

The only attackers I found successful are owl with shackle and Sylveon. Owl because I'm good sniping people from afar and Sylveon because of the decent bulk.

To be fair you had a really bad team comp , this is why I usually get stuck as defender because people absolutely refuse to switch from playing their stupid greninja or cinderace. Also your mimikyu and cram were dumb as hell-mimikyu at the end-Jesus.

Attackers suck so much right now because they always become over nerfed. For example cramorant, they buffed him to being used again but then slaughtered him the next patch and increased the slow to surf+ some other update like it would do anything. Sylveon was given a fine rework, but the damage it lost was way too much for the rework to feel good. They also proceeded to nerf mystic fire and drain kiss a lot more than it needed to be. Venusaur’s actual attacker build (solar beam), even though was the easiest target imagine able lost a lot of damage. Chandelier got imprison’s cooldown increased too much with overheat dmg nerfs. Armarouge, I mean come in armor canon lost 40% of its damage overtime due to two 20% damage nerfs. Psyshock was also caught nerfed mainly due to fire spin soooo. For the adc attackers, they just take too long to get online except for dura, and he is overall just meh. For the mages, (not including intel or glaceon since they’re very good right now), they’re just too easy to run down and need too much frontline to make work and are easy to bully early game. The only really good reliable attackers right now are ones that get online quickly and don’t fall off that much late game. Which pretty much leaves inteleon, glaceon, espeon, and miraidon as the really good and reliable attackers to really carry. (Mew2 y isn’t here because screw that thing.) Other roles also do what attackers can do, but get on so much earlier (speedsters and all-rounders.) So there’s virtually no point to include them on your team unless you REALLY need a ranged carry.

Yep, I quit playing Gardevoir and Venusaur (My top #2 and 3 respectively) because of CC and speedsters. I only play Armarouge, Blaziken and Trevanent now so I can play a game, and not sit staring at a respawn timer.

I think the only way to use attacker pokemon is to have frontline and peeling pokemon for you, like in this match you didn't have a single defender, cram and mimikyu wont peel for you and psyduck is more disruption so no tanking or healing.

Pysduck is pretty tanky though. And I don't think that that was necessarily the main reason why they lost in this game- only Cris and Psyduck had their Unite Moves at Ray. Cram's only got his Unite after everyone had died, and the rest got theirs after having died. If they had their Unites at the start of the fight, things may have turned out quite differently.

Guys im talking about the overall question Cris made about attacker pokemon in general, about when you could use them. Then I gave an example of why it didn't particularly work in this match, but of course thats not the only reason why they lost the game. Cris was off with his damage with candle from the beginning, not securing farm and objectives due to not playing candle in a long time. Also it didn't helped that his teammates weren't the best overall skill wise. He totally got team diff by the other team, even if they are bad skill wise, they have the better comp, healer all rounder defender attacker speedster is better than 2 attacker all rounder speedster, no healer and no defender for Cris team. Flamethrower vs overheat is debatable here, they have less dashes than it appears, the only one that can dash over the place is darkrai, so choosing overheat just for him I personally wouldn't do that, there are at least 3 better targets for Flamethrower in the enemy team so I would also have picked it, the resets and the damage are way more worth it in my opinion. Lastly my comment about psyduck was for the particular psyduck in this match, I should have been specific about it, yes Psyduck can be tanky, but not in this match, look at the end game stats, even Gengar tanked more damage than him, which is a whole another point on itself, look at the opponents, umbreon tanking almost twice, healing almost the same amount, look at clefable, so yeah there are many reasons this game went the way it went, but overall in my opinion you can choose attacker pokemon if the conditions previously mentioned are met, specially against low mobility brawlers if your team can keep them away from you and you have knowledge about positioning and have some skill.

Both have a counter, blissey's safeguard counter darkrai, along with other pokemon that have a moveset to make them unstopable, while tyranitar is easy to counter, just stun that thing a lot of times like alolan 9tails, mamo, pikachu, etc
