As a Native Hawaiian and American,,, btw, American First! I found your video fascinating and informational. Some of what you spoke about I was involved in. Some things you got a little off but nothing that takes away from the information given. One thing you did not touch upon is the Hawaiian Syndicate, although it is not as influential as it used to be 40 years ago I can assure you this organization is not only alive and well, it is still having an impact on our lives in Hawaii. I will not speak more to this, what I have written here alone is kapu. Regardless, you did a great job with your research and video. Your style is a needed release from the typical videos found online. Mahalo bruddah!!! It’s nice that you took the time to research and put together a fantastic video about my homeland. Much appreciated!! Much Aloha for you!!

Super Ferry was brought down by heavy lobbying from Young Brothers. YB is the main freighting firm between the islands using barges
@terryarista7105

That may be true, but I think also the rental car agencies and the airlines were against of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were working behind the scenes against the ferry business. If locals could take their cars on the neighbor island trip on a ferry that’s cheap, it would cut big time into the rental car and airline businesses.

@@zimriel Their indigeneity is without question. I think the right way to approach this is not to humiliate or coerce the Hawaiian people (adding this telescope to a long history of colonial action) but instead to win consensus, perhaps by trying to connect the contributions to science to Hawaiian values. I had the privilege of visiting Mauna Kea last year. I was in awe of its beauty. I wish I could have toured the observatory. I respected the sites of cultural importance, and I hope my presence there left no trace.

Used to work for a computer training company on Oahu. If i needed to get equipment to a neighbor Island, I would need to get items to HNL harbor on one day to arrive the following day and then have someone pick up there and has several days before I could set up the classroom. I would have to pay for my instructor to travel and expenses separate from the equipment. same with the return having multiple days for drop off, transports and pick up. With Super Ferry, I could have a mini van with instructor driving. Maybe pay 1 extra day T&E based on island and schedule. Rumor was the harbor unions, air carriers and rent a car companies were supporting those against the Super Ferry because it would affect their businesses.

It's all about who gets the payout here in hawai (just look at our "rail" here they been building it for over 30 years and over 30 companies each only lasting 1 year or less on average and keeping the contracted money through loopholes set up here).

Oil income to Alaska has dropped substantially. Less output from the oil deposits and now the state funds are 50% federal money. The legislature reduced oil taxes a while back too. Present governor is very unfriendly to the ferry system and as usual, the system is not as nice now and the prices are astronomical.

Young Brothers will still get their job, because Ferry will only take people and their cars to other islands. Car rentals will still have their customers. How?? There’s a lot of tourists coming here and of course they will need to rent a car. SupperFerry are for local residents….

Wasn’t the superferry killed due to a lack of environmental impact studies? It was pushed through by Lingle without doing the prerequisite requirements and the EPA or Dept. of transportation shut it down. Tourists like whales, superferry didn’t do studies oh now the whales would be impacted so I’d say it’s in the best interests of the state economy for the state to do its due diligence

What makes HanakapiAi so dangerous is the lateral current SW, running parallel to the beach just past the breakers, that quickly carries people away and into open water with nothing but rocky cliffs to climb onto if not dashed to to a pulp by powerful waves. It's a beautiful spot, but if you go in past your knees, it may be the last time you see a sandy beach!

The rail was an outrageous waste of money. So much corruption. How about a bridge from West Oahu to town? Tolls on H1. Car tax / registration based on vehicle value NOT weight. Tax commercial vehicles by weight and restrict their travel to right lane, middle BUT NOT LEFT. Small ferrying of people and goods between islands (not deep, not fossil fuel powered)…

Shipping stuff by boat is the cheapest way to move heavy loads. Thanks for including sail boat times. As that would be the only way I would be able to see Hawaii. For Great Lakes shipping, the Jones Act fleet carries iron ore, coal and limestone. Inland waterways shipping carries more domestic cargo than ocean shipping and Great Lakes shipping combined, transporting farm products, petroleum products, coal and non-metallic minerals, and chemical and allied products in bulk by barge.

Ocean transport is historically stifled here because of competition from airlines, cruise ships, and cargo vessels....pretty simple. Also....the island I live on does not want more cars and trucks driving on our roads.

That Na Pali coast graphic doesn't depict the Na Pali coast. Wrong island. Among other issues.

Cant fit a vehicle on a airplane. As a Bicycle rider, I would need to be able to move my bike from island to island. Guess I will never bike ride in Hawaii. Sounds like the perfect vehicle would be hovercraft. They can handle heavy sea's much better then a traditional ship. Just ask the English.

That’s rubbish, according to google: Which cruise lines go to Hawaii? A variety of cruise lines call on Hawaii -- Princess, Crystal, Holland America, Royal Caribbean -- but Norwegian Cruise Line has the only big ship based there, sailing from Honolulu. Expedition lines like UnCruise Adventures sail Hawaii's smaller islands.

What the video meant was why ferry crossings wasnt a viable business option. Going on a Cruise ship is a lot differnt from taking a ferry.

That means that Washington State and Alaska both have a larger ferry ⛴️ boat system than Hawaii.

There was a time when United states companies built things in our country. Things such as ships. So what happened? These American companies imported jobs to other countries. The labor costs are less. And the executives pocket the the extra money.

No it’s not, the Super Ferry was great, it is the Democrats and their union buddies that are preventing the Ferry service. I know I live here for awhile

regular ferry from Hollyhead to Dublin is 72 miles and takes 2 hours 57 minutes. Why would you assume a ferry travels at 5 nautical miles per hour or a modern ferry should take "less than a day"? Didnt you do any research? The average speed is about 24 miles per hour. The 172 miles should take an average of about 7 hours 10 minutes.
