Super Ferry was brought down by heavy lobbying from Young Brothers. YB is the main freighting firm between the islands using barges
@terryarista710512 күн бұрын
That may be true, but I think also the rental car agencies and the airlines were against of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were working behind the scenes against the ferry business. If locals could take their cars on the neighbor island trip on a ferry that’s cheap, it would cut big time into the rental car and airline businesses.

Used to work for a computer training company on Oahu. If i needed to get equipment to a neighbor Island, I would need to get items to HNL harbor on one day to arrive the following day and then have someone pick up there and has several days before I could set up the classroom. I would have to pay for my instructor to travel and expenses separate from the equipment. same with the return having multiple days for drop off, transports and pick up. With Super Ferry, I could have a mini van with instructor driving. Maybe pay 1 extra day T&E based on island and schedule. Rumor was the harbor unions, air carriers and rent a car companies were supporting those against the Super Ferry because it would affect their businesses.
