Some ATC don't get it that once a pilot declares an emergency, their job is to do everything possible to get the plane safely to the ground. The pilot makes the decisions not them.

The great risk with retracting the landing gear isn't a "belly flop" to the ground. The real danger is that the landing gear doors will open and cause a massive additional drag which could have stalled the plane! So they risked even more drag for a minute to reduce the drag after the gear was retracted. This was a real garbling situation!

If you're referring to maintaining control with the stick shaker shaking, that would be scary! I'm a retired banner tower and have more hours of slow flight near/at stall speed than I do in cruise flight. I couldn't imagine doing that with the stick shaking.

The landing on an occupied runway brings to mind the LAX incident where an airliner was cleared for landing. At the same time a business jet was given clearance to cross the runway. The collision resulted in the deaths of everyone on the business jet and many on the airliner. It was determined that the traffic controller was overworked and the tower was understaffed.

This is why I will never fly in a plane with only AI and no human pilot on board. Human instincts, intuition, skill, and experience will always beat an AI in emergency situations. The AI would have followed the rules in all these cases, killing everyone on board and who knows how many on ground.

afaik in US to give clear to land well before the runway not freed but even previous plane landed is a common practice - "12345 you are 3rd after cessna on base, clear to land".

The more we take the pilot out of the equation the less I want to fly. The few if not the only occupation where you have to be damn good at your job and any wrong decision, aside from catastrophe, will destroy the pilots career/life. My respect to all pilots.

You have missed so many of the important points about what happened first of all they had a antifreeze system that they can inject in the engines which would give them a little more thrust When you retract the landing gear for a few seconds when the doors are open the plane is actually dirtier and has more drag and you've got to weigh whether it's worth it or not They were able to benefit from ground effects which is at Krishna Vera being pushed down like a big pillow that they would be rolling across

If one engine fails, how far will the 2nd one take us? That's what a guy asked me on a plane in the late 80s. I said, well buddy, it will definitely make it to the scene of the crash. Hell I even bet we make it there a good 30 to r5 minutes before paramedics get there. Never ask someone this question after a really bad break up and is drunk. That's my advice to you.
