Yes, thank you very much for this video. I've watched almost a dozen "Grow your channel" videos, and most of them: 1.) Give you extremely obvious basic information everybody also knows 2.) Gives a lot of hopeful rhetoric with success stories to justify their views (ignoring survivorship bias) 3.) Filled with get rich quick $_$ algorithm trend chasing that are no longer relevent This video actually seems to come from personal experience, of intentional planning ----> success that's actually replicable,. Despite this admittingly going to take a long time, it seems that happiness also is a huge factor, which will make up for time lost.

I love the approach you have on this topic. I myself have been dealing with this chase regarding my social media success. Now I’m older and realized I was creating an audience with no purpose. I’ve now started a swimwear brand with a social media audience of mainly kids & males. When my ideal target audience is females. I’m still confused if I should completely start over with my content on KZbin to make purposeful content for my ideal audience or should I force it on my existing audience. Every time I try to, I get discourage by the views, & youtube algorithm to where I’m not consistent enough to see if it works. What would you suggest for me to do?

Wow! This is exactly where I'm at and how I feel....it sucks! I have done some research on whether or not to start over (I have about 320 subs) or not, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a clear yes or no. Some of the research says yes and some says no. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I really disagree about one piece of content affecting the rest of your channel. Each video is judged on it's own, this is regularly stated by certified youtube experts, it's not just my opinion. It might confuse your subscriber base which might affect a video's performance, but it's the signals of humans watching a piece of content or not that KZbin watches for, not in conjunction with past video performance. It's why a channel can have a video with a few hundred or thousand views, and a video with tens or hundred of thousands of views, something that is quite normal to see.

You don't own the platforms and when they cut you off you have no recourse! I painfully lost my adSense income stream.... because, get this, my adsense account has been linked to an account that violated policy. I didn't do anything wrong I've been associated with someone who has. Being I don't know anyone that uses Adsense, nor is there anything I can do about it, I no longer make money off my videos. Pretty demoralizing. However it has made me more intentional about finding video sponsors to replace the lost income while I figure out what to do about video creation in the future. What did I do to cause this.... about 2 weeks before this happened I changed the address on my account to my company address, a virtual business address used by 58 thousand other companies for privacy because I run my business from my house. But there is no human you can contact at google about this so I'm just cut off from income and I can't even turn ads of my videos. The laws need to catch up with these companies.

I have been thinking a lot about this recently that people are so hungry (myself included) for more and more followers. I have felt frustrated that my latest videos have gotten "so few views". However, if you think about speaking in front of 200-500 people it's actually amazing that so many people care about what I have to say. I had a bit of a crisis 2 months ago when I had to redefine success. I am now focusing more on the comments and messages I get from people and creating content my ideal viewer will be excited to watch. If I look at those videos I have been frustrated about "not performing well" (read: as well as my ego would like) I have quite a high number of comments and likes on them for the number of views they have. I also feel like I really like I have taken my videos to the next level quality-wise, but most importantly I really enjoy the process.

Thank you Sunny for this video. I've now been on KZbin for just over a year and feel so lost. I feel like I've been doing all the things on your list but my growth is so slow. That being said after watching the whole video I do have some take aways. 1. I was measuring success by saying I wanted to reach monetization in 1 year. I failed at that so its left me in the "not happy" part. But 2. I have 723 subscribers and even if they aren't all engaged, a lot are and those are real people like you said that I'm impacting and that is actually what is important to me. I'm relaunching my blog and channel this year but it was to find like minded people and in some cases advise people through my experiences. In a way I was hoping to build a community where we can help each other. It (blog and channel etc.)finally made a start when over Christmas some local film students contacted me directly for advice. Hi Sunny - I enjoyed this post, very timely with respect to the popular idea that more is better (subscribers, views, likes, etc.). I came across an article about '1,000 True Fans' which hits a target that is not in the millions but represents a core set of people you would want to engage with and be successful catering to them. So if I relate part of your message to use social media to drive prospects to your own mailing list, it's very much being specific to refining that top 1,000 fans as the most important factor than 10 times that amount who are passively engaged. Does that make sense, am I off on this? It's about embracing the trees in the forest. ; )

The best video I have seen to date. I wonder, how is this even available? This seems like the kind of content someone would be teaching in their online course. I honestly feel like youtube prioritizes flashy content over impactful or informational content 🤔 Look at what gets recommended in your algorithms mostly gaming streams, car content or people living in fake mansions or driving luxury cars that the average person can't afford. Car content has overwhelmingly been recommended to me on a daily basis which makes me think youtube only cares about flash.

I believe the best way is to focus on delivering content that represents your brand it can be used by using trends or your own voice, but as you said make the social media platforms work for you. Focus on investigating what is happening now!

Hi Sunny! New subscriber here :) I just started a channel and I have a question about the specific vs broad part. I know who my audience is and what I want to be known for, but I feel that I may have too many topics I want to post videos about. (Spanish, cooking, DIY, etc.) So, my question is should I expand my channel to different subchannels or should I keep all my videos on one channel? (Just Kayla Things - Spanish, Just Kayla Things - Cooking, etc.) Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)
