11:20, looks like aluminum cooling fins for the arc chutes. 30:37 you can see the arc chutes, when the breaker trips the arc gets drawn up in to those plates and it quenches the arc, so they heat up. Old school high voltage air break breakers worked the same way. Now they use vacuum bottles or SF6 in high voltage instead of arc chutes.

Like the construction of that board, with all the safety covers. The UK has much better and safer kit than we do here in the US.

Good video as always. Would have been interesting to tighten up the screws on that old switch to see exactly at what torque the plastic breaks.

I found the directions that come with these types of switches are not great at all, manufacturers could do a lot better. Unless you keep the torque wrench at 90’ to the bolt when tightening, pressure will be applied to the side wall of the housing and this will crack as it’s quite flimsy. Overall a bit crap really considering it’s from such a big manufacturer in this field.

Not impressed with Eaton here to be honest
@mxslick50
@mxslick50 7 ай бұрын
@@residualelectrical Eaton is so-so here in the US, better than GE though which is total shite. GE breakers are slow to trip on shorts (no magnetic trip in most styles) and have horrible failure rates when new (standard breakers >5%, GFCI (your RCD) >15%. I use Square D exclusively and have had very few issues.

Another great work overview, mate. Loved the image you used for the thumbnail. As someone who loves to do photography of working motives together with hobbies (ex. G-Shock and construction or Fluke, electrical installations and knive collecting) that thumbnail really "nails" (pun intended) the subject. The best wishes for you and you loved ones in this festive dates.

As far as I am concerned,if it's not EXACTLY the same,then it's not the same model,it may aswell have a different cat number for what it's worth,for a switch that is supposedly the same,it has a hell of a lot of differences.

Hi Mike. What's the reason for the Isolator / Switch Fuse? You mentioned Division of Responsibility.
@residualelectrical
@residualelectrical 7 ай бұрын
The board was existing and not installed to the best standard, while we are EICR ing the whole install our replacement submain needed a EIC, the isolator allows us to stop our EIC at the isolator and not take installation responsibility for the DB 👍🏼
