I love the head coming past the hands feel, and as the shiny back of the sole on my wedges shows, you end up using the bounce anyway.

100% yes! You need to use "the levers" to have any feel and put spin on the ball. All the pros have measurable upward movement of the club whilst chipping.
@enriquegarrido1580
@enriquegarrido1580 10 ай бұрын
Spot on . Tried for a long time chipping locking all the levers with no success on the finess shots. Worked out over time that hinging and letting the club drop by gravity produces a better and consistent chip. Distance control by lengthening the swing but letting the club drop to the ball by its own momentum without applying force.

Thanks for finally putting things straight. I'm not sure there's anything more overstated in golf than "use the bounce". This is not a universal cure and often it just is not appropriate. Tried a few of the shots you suggest here around Godstone today... absolutely mind-blowing results. Thank you Stuart.

Interesting. Will try it on the practice green. Chipping drives me crazy even after 60 years of playing. I can hit some very nice crisp shots that go right up next to the hole. But for sure the next one will be either a bladed rocket that goes past the hole and off the green, or I will stub the leading edge into the grass behind the ball which will go maybe half the distance to the hole or less. It always seems to be the right had that takes over and flicks, just wont stay bent back. That causes both problems. It makes head overtake hands so leading edge hits ball, and stretching out the right hand lowers the club so it hits behind the ball. Worked an hour today on chipping. Need to work more.

Weak left hand grip helps with the release you are talking about. Also, the club somehow doesn't ground with a weaker grip. Hopefully this will help

Hi Stuart, You're on my favourite practice area, the logs in the background gave it away !!! I've literally hit thousands of balls and spent 100's of hours chipping all round that practice green, there's some tough chips from some areas there so it's a great place to practice particularly from under the trees. Anyway love the video and all your others, you make a lot of sense to me, particularly about the Faldo/Leadbetter stuff not necessarily being the best advice to many golfers. I hope you enjoyed PT, keep up the good work and I'll try to get a lesson with you in Surrey.

I played for six years in Melbourne on the PGA Tour of Australasia and this is absolutely how I applied myself. Shave the bounce off the golf club for the right hard pan. Bounce is fatal in Australia and the sand belt courses. Hope that helps n

Are you changing anything about the grip compared to the full swing in chipping or pitching? Have been a weak gripper for the short game but played with your grip this last weekend. I felt much more in control of the club head and direction. Very much enjoying getting better and seeing the scores drop. Many, many thanks my friend.
@GoodGolfCoaching

Hey NWH! Lovely to hear from you. I would start the short game with the same grip as the full swing; as you become better and you branch out with the variety of different shots, be open to changing the hold; only weaker, right? Helps add a hair of softened to certain shots but I wouldn’t get too carried away, keep it simple if you can. Hope that helps my friend! Best wishes Stu 😊

@@GoodGolfCoaching yes, only weaker. Strengthening seemed to help the pitching more so than the chipping. It gave me a lot of the same feels as the full swing. Didn’t have as much luck chipping with the stronger grip. Will probably play with that one. I’m striving for simplicity and keeping things the same where I can. Enjoying the journey! Have started a “Precision Golf/Intelligent Golf Performance” piggy bank. You only do it once, right? Best wishes!

I am curious, is this a feel the right feel for full shots with irons as well(with body movement of course) Like the feeling of swinging the weight of the clubhead instead of the bloody handle dragging and bowed wrists everybody is teaching nowdays. I think i am trying to ask if this is a good feel for how the club works trough the strike and build it a up to a fuller swing. Or is your concept different for full shots? :)
@GoodGolfCoaching

Its the right feel for all shots indeed; I draw so much attention to this in short game because there is so much info out there that encourages to use bounce. Hope it helped Charles? best wishes Stu

Tom - thanks for your reply... I feel your pain buddy, but when you see guys and girls try to use so much bounce they can't even take a divot, and you see Phil Mickleson with plenty of shaft lean, I would re think the bounce application. Using the bounce is the most overrated application in the game in my honest opinion. Hope you find seem performance from this video. Best wishes Stu 😊

I used it on the mat today, and pretty pleased. All wrists and nothing else, a pretty dependable 20-25. Add just a pinch of arms as needed for a bit more. I like to lob at around 45-55, but it seems I'm always a bit left no matter what I do to try and prevent it. I can get that line better using your technique and just bumping it up a bit.@@GoodGolfCoaching
