But isn’t that creating a timing issue to get the face square at impact?

Every single golf swing requires timing my friend. Don’t be sold down the river, that golf swings are “not” down to timing. Very swing is.

Stuart, another fantastic video full of insight. Great to see your concept of delivery being from club shaft last parallel to club shaft first parallel. Fantastic to see your delivery concept is consistent with best practices. You add new insight by distinguishing the first phase of the downswing where the hands are behind your shoulders as a “Pull” mechanism. Whereas by P6 Delivery position (last parallel) you, move into discussion of the “Push Phase with the right side / right hand and allowing the club head to “Swing” through into the follow through. What I think of as the Release phase let the club swing through and up as you simultaneously hinge / pressure down as you say and externally rotate the lead arm. Simply brilliant material Stuart. Just one thought, I’m guessing given your hand position at P6 is actually quite in line with other recognised leading golf coaches (circa half way between your toe line and the ball to target line) there are indeed so many consistent cross overs to other modern teachers who for example believe in the Exit Left methods. That’s perfect for me being selfish because I’m a big believer in this Exit Left approach. I’m now seeing your methodology is based around remaining swinging around one central axis of your spine as opposed to laterally shifting alternating around the left side on the backswing and the right side on the down and through swing. I think your methodology is easier to understand and execute. Yes you still do have some lateral movement in the downswing/ through swing but it’s not the primary movement. It’s your pressing into the ground under your lead leg / left foot with hip rotation / ie your lead side extension. None of that “GARBAGE” of the lead knee moving target wise and pulling your downswing into motion. You see Stuart you’ve got me at it now 😊. Myles Myles

That’s it, I’m a unicorn! Broke my forearm in high school and can rotate the palm only halfway past where you would shake hands. Still way more shallow than where I was all summer. Well, the day before Christmas i was given the gift that will keep on giving the rest of my life. I have arthritis/bone spurs in my lower lumbar spine. The back doesn’t hurt but inflammation from it is what is causing the sciatic pain down the left leg. Start PT this morning. There will be some lifestyle changes I’m sure. Looking for longevity now. Have you done or considered doing a video on benefits of swinging like this as it pertains to common golf injuries? Better go get ready. Love your work my friend. Take care, NWH

This is a perfect KZbin golfing tuition video, by you Stuart. It’s succinct, packed full of insights and includes a simple & understandable practical golf drill to reenforce the learning. This is the essence of your Broom videos. It explains why you are different. This whole framework of laying of the shaft, allowing the hands to move out towards the golf ball earlier, deeper giving golfers the ability to retain the loading of the shaft from the backswing into the unloading mid way down in the downswing. All coupled with a dynamic release which combines external rotation of the lead arm / supination of the lead forearm), and lead wrist moving into extension post impact all packages neatly into a new Exit Left motion of the body and arms. Further supported by emphasising the benefits of holding the club more in the fingers of your lead hand further enhancing the ability to pressure down on the shaft to elevate / hinge the club upwards in the backswing and through swing. Removing the need for this modern excessive focus around side bend and driving the lead elbow. Enhancing the body rotation by avoiding swaying off the ball especially with the lower half, by pushing against / rotating inside your trail foot in the move away. Allowing the trail leg to extend as hips move around and inside around & away from their starting position. Your pressure shifts into your trail side while remaining centred over the spine / ball. You finish it all off by the way this new modern golfing framework encourages the golfer to allow the club to swing freely through impact into the follow through. Allowing / encouraging the club to swing to naturally cross over in the through swing, while maintaining the club face to be consistent to the arc. In a comparison of a “Throw” vs “Twist” player I put your methodology more into the Throw methodology but uniquely blending a good degree of arm rotation also. For all those doubters out there what in can say now is they simply do not understand the fundamentally sound foundation and elements which makes your methodology completely consistent and effective. It’s different but in a good way for many golfers who simply can’t get / understand the alternative/ more traditional approach. I have to conclude with the fact this latest video contains the essence of what makes your methodology different but totally effective. This innovative way of using the lead forearm external rotation with a shallow downswing. Just one suggestion. Add an alignment rod on the floor between your toe line and the ball to target line. Then in relation to pre-setting the wrists out in front of you, place the alignment rod on the ground. This is where the hands should arrive over at P6 Last Parallel in a good modern golf swing. Your methodology may encourage the hands half way down / by P6 to even be slightly forward / outward to the ball. But clarity here would really help. Perhaps a follow up video.. Great job I do believe this was good golf instruction once again. Happy New Year Stuart !

Hi Stu, I tried your grip. Boy, is grip the most overlooked part of the swing !!! It created a free Swing through at the bottom of the downswing (due to left hand returning from the unhinged/uncupped left hand at the top of the swing to its setup hinged/cup position. it created a free wheeling swing booster for power at impact. Question for you: Do you pull down the left arm in initial phase of downswing? Or You start to use the right hand to swing through the ball (which will require a bit of side bend)? and lastly, when (if any) do you use the right (more powerful) hand? Appreciate your advice. thanks

Stuart, you said the first move is pulling the club towards the ball, and your hands were right above the ball line during the step by step phase. However, when you did the full swing, your hands were right at your toe line, not the ball line. When I swing along my toe line and in, my contact is solid. When I pull towards the ball, I won’t be able to get back fast enough, and result is weak heel shot and no compression. Thanks.

Stu, this is out to in and over the top for amateurs. There must be something else with the hands path to get the ball straight. Otherwise this is against all geometry n logic. This is very easy for amateur to do, but we slice it every time.

The problem with any instruction is what is said is not always what is heard and sometimes only half is said. Regarding holding the right shoulder back I would like you to clarify a bit. My understanding is you do not hold the right shoulder back, but it moves mostly down first, while the hips moves mostly around which may feel like holding it back and the shoulders are then rotating behind the hips. To add to this clearing the hips to give the arms increases the misunderstanding of holding the shoulders back. Another feel some have and teach is swinging out to the right, which is interpreted as hitting out to the right, when it means swinging in front of the body, but your body is on a line out to the right early in the downswing, but rotation brings you to swing on the target line and then to the left etc So teachers explain their feel, but the student does something different to get that feel or just misunderstands. So can you tell me am I right or wrong about the feeling of shoulder movement etc.

Exactly on point to the swing analysis you recently did for me on Skillest. I will add this drill to my work on getting the shaft laid down before starting the downswing. Letting both forearms rotate left through strike is a different feel when one is used to holding off that rotation. I can see it is essential to let the let the forearms rotate left coming down in order to get the face squared up to the path at contact with the ball. I can see why getting this right also promotes better body movement and speed through the ball. Great insight.

Stuart over the last 6 months you have certainly introduced me to a new golf swing. I am simply amazed by the enthusiasm you bring with you. I am learning to blend all 5 elements of the series on good ball contact. Still tend to top the ball somewhat and that may be because of the upper body going too much forward or because I am not pressing down enough. Will work on that. Thanks for your hard work. You have changed my way of looking at the swing! Also, I like the fact that you do not press too hard on taking lessons from you. Some of us learn better from watching the videos on KZbin

This is an eye-opener for me and hints at the reason that fat shots have always been a problem for me (i.e. bent legs at impact). Can't wait to try this out on the range! I have a separate question: I have developed a sore left wrist (outside bone) and sore left elbow (feels a bit like tennis elbow). I have wondered what I am doing wrong, e.g. cupping the left wrist too much or for too long, as in not releasing soon enough? Do you have any knowledge, experience and/or advice on avoiding this based on your or your students' experiences in applying your swing? Finally, I wish you and yours a happy holiday and good health in 2025.

Thank you so Mike; golfers/tennis elbow usually come from poor leverage in the golf swing as long as the grip is as good as you say it is. Sure it’s not too much in the palm? Make sure of these two area and then lighten the grip is possible and if the ball isn’t going right you are on a good path to solving the ailments. Best wishes Stu
