We had a similar situation where the first officer to find the suspect just closed and barricaded the door until the rest of us arrived. It was a wise decision since the suspect was high on Angel Dust. It took 6 of us to get him into handcuffs. When I asked that officer, a guy known for taking on pretty much anyone, why he decided not to take this suspect on...he said "When I hit him with my flashlight, I saw his eyes..crazy eyes".

That was my question! Should he have gone inside while alone? or better to stay at the door and try to have the guy stay put until backup arrives? The scary part is now. The race hustlers are meeting with local "activists" and with the help of the local liberal media and a few liberal loud mouths and they will demand "action" and "justice" even though there is no initial wrong doing. When the hustlers get the crowd riled up with baby photos and catchy chants, the liberal media is glad to give free air time to angry mobs, I mean justice warriors. When the pressure builds after repeatedly showing the video and repeating the unarmed and black phrase over and over, then politics kicks in and the mayor and prosecutor must "reopen" the case and look for possible "hidden" aspects. Toss in a little national media attention, and before you know it, the frightened officer is out of his police job, the city has a civil suit, a "rally" pops off, more media air time, and finally criminal charges are laid against the cop because "justice" and "accountability " and other slogans. The scary part is waiting for a spark to start a raging fire with help from loving liberals.

For me, I'll never forget the first week after I was certified by my company to carry (casino), had thrown two brats out of the casino since they didn't have any parents with them; after they were off property I went to go back to my post and ended up getting jumped by them. One went for my firearm while the other was trying for my OC, all I could hear on the radio was our surveillance guy saying 'officer needs assistance' Thankfully we always have police on property due to the area that the casino is located in (less than a mile from the ghetto's, and only a few blocks from a homeless camp) so between them and my coworkers the brats weren't successful but it caught me a valuable lesson about not turning my back even after the individual is off property. They got through two of my holsters retention but couldn't get past the third, which is probably what saved my life (though personally, I consider my hands to be another form of retention, as i had both hands on my holster to keep them from pulling it out)

It's always insane when you realize how little some people value their life. Like, murdering a guard in a casino? What is the outcome they were expecting? It's wild.
@Suisfonia7 ай бұрын
@@SamaraScenebuilds No they weren't shot, though according to the police and my own company policy, I'd have been justified but *only* if they weren't in custody and *only* if they were still presenting a threat. Had I shot them while they were running, then I'd have been in trouble. Also, yes, they were arrested; would be a travesty if they weren't. They were also sentenced, though thankfully I didn't have to go to court, the video footage as well as my statements were all that was needed. Did have a chance to watch the surveillance footage a few weeks after, frankly, I was angry at myself for letting my guard down and allowing that to happen. I did have to go through a use of force panel though, since after they were off me I ended up pulling my sidearm due to the adrenaline and aiming it at them but once I saw they were both on the ground and being handcuffed I realized that they weren't a threat and holstered my gun. First, and only time, I ever had to pull while on the job and if anyone asks, yes I was afraid, hell more like terrified. The experience taught me quite a bit, about myself, and about what it takes to be an armed officer. It was odd, I've pulled a few times off the job and wasn't scared or terrified, but on the job? It was different. I sometimes wonder if its because the casino was crowded and I was nervous I may hit an innocent bystander, or perhaps I was just worried that I might violate some unknown company policy (the company I now work with has very strict policies on firearm usage, which is why I won't be an armed officer. Just touching the firearm while on the casino floor is considered a use of force inquiry)

Probably the most exhausted I’ve ever been was after a weapon retention fight; it didn’t last 90 seconds. Thank god I wasn’t alone as I didn’t have much left after the fight.
@markstone16197 ай бұрын
Glad you're still here. Long ago I luckily survived an over 4 minute brutal "dogfight to the death" (how I describe it) over my sidearm, after dispatch sent the backup I called for to the wrong location, over 1/2 a mile away. Backup finally scouted around and found me. I know exactly what you mean saying "didn't have much left". Understatement to the max.
@libertarian16377 ай бұрын
@@markstone1619: I can’t imagine 4 minutes of full out fighting. Unless you do it most people can’t understand a truly all out for your life fight; things aren’t measured and you’re not metering or pacing yourself you’re literally giving it everything you have. I give it to you for going 4 minutes. The job can be increasingly menial and boring but man when sh!t kicks off can you go from 0 to 100 quick.
@markstone16197 ай бұрын
@@libertarian1637 If someone had asked how long it lasted I honestly would have estimated well over 20 minutes if I didn't have the radio timestamps from my initial call for backup (10 seconds prior to the grab/fight) to end timestamp when backup came on scene. So true on ppl never understanding unless they experienced it first hand. You may laugh a bit, but mine was back when we were issued revolvers. Retired now. After first 3-5 seconds it was all wrapped tight side by side on ground in 1 spot. Most critical parts were lengthy periods where, while re-holstered with 50/50 possession/control between him & me, entire duty belt and rig twisted with muzzle aimed in/upward under lower end of vest, his powerful repeated yanks on the trigger. Only thing that prevented firing was the web of my right hand jamming hard downward on the hammer. Web of my hand ended up looking like fresh ground beef, no joke. So many other 'close calls', as I'm sure you've also had. In this job they're not rare. Even at just 1 minute in, I felt I couldn't endure or last 10 more seconds. After the 4+ minutes I had zero doubt I couldn't have lasted another 3 seconds and couldn't believe I endured it to that point. I'm still thanking God to this day.

@@markstone1619 : While I’m not that old; I did train with a revolver though never carried one, at least as a primary weapon. I started at the tail end of the revolver to auto transition with the senior guys still having the options to carry them, so long as they always carried them, but no new ones were issued. I’ve worked with a few departments over the years and my first had a leather level 2 holster that had a front break and needed a forward rotation; these weren’t too bad as you could wedge your hand between the top and the duty belt and lock your fingers under your belt and there was no way for the gun to come out. After that though it was either Blackhawks or Safarilands; these didn’t exactly have as good of a way to lock in so to speak and you had to actively defend the removal. I had my fight with the Safariland and was increasingly glad for their extra flipper as I had one on mine and it’s probably the only reason I held onto my gun. I moved on from policing to being a Probation Officer though still kept up on regular trainings as that was one area our agency seemed to have money to spend. We bought our own gear, though we had limited approved options, and having worked in policing knew I didn’t want to take any chances given the rural nature of the work as well as the fact that I typically worked alone. I was glad I made the investment; I was also glad our agency had a use of force continuum that includes “improvised weapons” as a lamp ended the fight. I’ve had some close calls over the years but only one topped this; thankfully in all of them I’ve never had to pull the trigger as the job is stressful enough without having to live with taking a life, even if justified.

Idk I think the officer may be in the wrong for that, granted he was violent and the crowbar wasnt visable but when the incident happens at 7:06 it looks like the officer lunges at the offender with no immediate back up to detain this violent and possibly armed man when he could have simply kept distance and waited for backup for assistance. Maybe im tripping but he had distance and then lunged forward and put his firearm directly in reach of a potentially armed suspect.

@@BrandonBroccoliLooks the opposite to me. The POS clearly goes right at the Officer as he's stepping back. Absolutely had to shoot. @@jro9365 Heard that loud and clear but if you watch the video after 7:06 the suspect walks slowly to the right of the officer before the officer decides to close the distance he opened for no apparent reason, its clear as day that the officer lunges forward grabbing the suspects right arm, not the suspect lunging for the gun. that just proves to me that they wont be held for over reacting to the situation

We had a great city manager and DA. Try to take the sidearm, Robbery could be added. Assault and battery, attack a cop generally didnt go far. Add, robbery, grand theft, RSP (you get the idea) I had a defense attorney that I shut down. Bought with money made as a Police Officer? "Yep! And I own two cars and a house.
