What the heck happened to holsters that retained the weapon even if a suspect grabbed it? Holsters that required a specific draw-stroke otherwise they wouldn't release the weapon. Those were actually common on the hips of NYPD officers back when the S&W model 10 was standard-issue. Heck, some officers were issued DAO S&W model 64s as late as the mid-1990s. They switched to Glocks, and the holsters regressed in retention.
@ronin0266 ай бұрын
Yeah most of those old holsters were leather snap clasp or leather break style, and they found that some officers actually failed to successfully draw their weapon under duress. Plus there is the added simple logic of size in a straight of fight. If a female officer is smaller/weaker than the average male they come across, how could they ever subdue a suspect without using deadly force? I think if you are encountering a really belligerent suspect, them knowing the only responding officer is someone they can tackle may increase the odds they try it. A significant number of police officers are shot with their own gun, she’s in close quarters, and has left her gun uncovered and open. His hand is closer to it than hers is.

On graduation day they were held back for firearms qualification retraining until they 'could' pass and supposedly a month later they did finally 'pass'. While all of us had been assigned to the streets, these 2 were thankfully assigned to police records dept. the affirmative action hired officer allowed her firearm to be taken
@WALTHERS147 ай бұрын
Nah man, that ain't affirmative action, that's something else. Affirmative Action is simply the process of a business/institution/organization removing any discriminatory procedures in their hiring process, in essence, preventing qualified individuals from being turned away from jobs they're qualified for on the basis of race, religion, or sex. In other words, if you have a business that _doesn't_ turn away applicants on the basis of their skin color, reproductive anatomy, and/or religion (without justification, i.e. if the business can prove that it needs to include race, religion, and/or sex in its hiring process), just simply on their qualifications and job experience, then you're engaging in affirmative action. [ex: if a black woman applies to an accounting position at a bank, but has zero experience as an accountant _and_ lacks the education required, you can reject her application. If this woman _is_ qualified *and* has the desired educational requirements, she can be rejected *only* for reasons _other_ than race, religion, or sex.] Affirmative Action is _intended_ to provide equal access to employment, but has led to 'racial quotas' (due to how people have _interpreted_ its meaning). If someone is hired for a job/position they _aren't_ qualified for, that's the fault of the employer/organization, not Equal Employment Opportunity clauses.

I live in upstate NY (not NYC) and I wish people would learn that ALL of New York is horrible, not JUST the city lol. The city has some "special laws", but most of NY State law pertains to ALL of us. New York state made me a felon. Literally. Just a poor guy working at a 2-employee cell phone store, get accused of embezzling like $60k from the company over a YEAR some how, turns out (obviously, to me, anyway) it was my SUPERVISOR who was taking all the money. But when shit hit the fan he threw me under the bus by admitting to some of it and blaming the rest on me. I admitted to NONE of it. Didn't matter. Now we're CO-DEFENDENTS in court for the same crime. Yay! So.. HOW do I prove my innocence? I can't! Despite my best efforts to "solve" my own case, I went through 3 public defenders (2 of which backed out of my case because I refused to just plea out, or they said they wouldn't help me in a trial). I had no money, couldn't retain a good attorney who would put in the work. And even though I wittled down the amount they were accusing me of, explaining away over 95% of it with EVIDENCE, it STTTIIILLLLLLLL didn't matter because, to quote my last public defender, "they only need to prove I stole at least $1000 for it to be a Felony and I'd get 3-5 years in state prison if I lost at trial." So.. after a year+ in and out of court, getting and losing multiple jobs over this, bouts of suicidal depression, no one being able to help me.. even though I had family "support", I didn't have their financial support despite every single family member and friend claiming they believed me and that I was used as a scapegoat.. I ended up being coerced by the ADA (without counsel present) to accept a plea deal. Plead guilty to the charge (class D felony - grand theft), pay back $16k of the money (that I didn't steal), and do 5 years of felony probation in NEW YORK.. but, no jail time. 🤦♂️ Considering I was ready to end my life if I found out I might have to go to PRISON for a crime as dumb as this that I didn't do, I took the deal and now I'm a FELON! Yay! THANKS NEW YORK! And, in case anyone is wondering, OF COURSE I completed felony probation, and of COURSE I paid all that money (plus thousands in other fees), and of COURSE I did it all while maintaining gainful employment. Hell, I had to go out and learn a completely NEW trade, as I could never work in retail again in my life now. I've been designing wood building components for EIGHT years now and I work for an AWESOME company. How? Why? Because I'm not a CRIMINAL! 🤣 But, New York definitely turned me in to one because they simply DON'T CARE. They saw an easy, open and shut case, didn't care about the truth, and almost destroyed an innocent person's life over it. All for what.. money? Because some owner of a small cell phone company didn't check his damn books properly? Because some POS can just point the finger at someone else and say "he did it" and that automatically means "yup.. this one guy said he did it, so he must've done it!" 🤦♂️ I feel bad for anyone accused of worse crimes than I was accused of and who are also, truly innocent. Makes you wonder how many innocent people are in prison right now, accused and slandered of everything from murder to SA to financial crimes, solely because they didn't watch their backs and someone wanted to shift blame. It's insane. DON'T move to New York unless you're filthy rich, because no one will care about you. No one.
