Ay yo? It was an honor to show up in the video. Awesome vid, it really does sum up the idea of why I do what I do. The challenge of playing through whatever people think is strong, the joy of deck building something new and nonsensical, all of it is why I personally play the game. From the Suship Chef, Stay fun, and I hope to see you all again soon.

As a rogue player this isn't a true statement. Most rogue decks abuse floodgates and even are designed as floodgate decks Icejade,Umi Control, Dinomorphia, Runick Stun ect floodgates are more oppressive than omni-negates which meta decks usually play. Rogue players seem to forget that Mystic Mine was a rogue strategy that ruined an entire format so much so that meta decks had to adapt and start using it as well and I'm going to tell you a card that states YOU CAN'T PLAY THE GAME really doesn't make anything shine in this game.

@@etherealhawkI never said all were that way most are though then you have the ones that all they do is OTK or FTK which isn't fun at all and isn't good for the game. I've seen good back and forth with both rogue and meta decks also rogue players need to realize that the rogue deck they are playing chances are was a form of a meta deck if not a meta deck at one point in time and to think that meta decks don't give the players playing them a challenge is a goofy mindset I challenge anyone who plays rogue with this mindset to go with the best deck to 3 YCS's and top all three if meta decks are just that easy to play won't be much of a challenge for anyone.

Its like football (which i am an avid watcher), "every morally-sane person loves the story of underdogs". There is romance in it, as the true nature of human itself is struggling to achieve the success. And those reflected in YGO as rogue decks Im an abyss actor player, and i cant tell how my sheer dopamine erupts when watching spright, tear, or branded scoop after destroying my set card via Fantastic Theatre, or just simply outresource them.

Yo, if you ask me to read Abyss Actor cards, I'm conceding LOL I really like you weaving romanticism into this having studied art before. I agree - in a way, we can see rogue as a glorification of the challenge to do well in life that everyone faces everyday. Sure, meta is beautiful in its own means and it can definitely reflect the former concept. Even so, the sheer nature of rogue accompanies it best. Thank you for your comment :)

Good to see you again too, Ivan :D I completely agree with you. Tear format into Arise-Heart format was kinda draining as a rogue player - it was just so hard to contest with those decks. This format, even with Tear still being a potential threat, seems a lot nicer than before. In addition to this, a really nice locals opened up near where I live, and me and my friends have been going quite frequently which helps with passion for the game. It is funny you bring up that second point - I wanted to potentially write an essay on the idea. I find that talking about Yugioh and theorizing Yugioh decks can be a lot more fun than actually playing it. Maybe it's because I just like the critical thinking process, but I definitely think there's something there that trumps sitting at a table and duking it out.

The reason I play rouge is also one of the reasons mentioned in the video which is its uniqueness and also one or 2 of the rouge decks that fits me well are Pure Noble Knigts and Earth Machines. I think it is also because of their raw power. Earth Machines having big giant rail cannons based on real rail cannons from WWII being able to deal huge damage or giant machines with huge ATK like Liebe or Ruinforce or Pure Noble Knights’s ability of passing of equip spells to another or the same knight after it being destroyed are my kind of play style.

Ever since I tried Aromages in Duel Links when getting back into the game since my childhood (got back in the GX/Synchro eras in Duel Links) they've been my favourite deck and though I don't play Duel Links anymore since a long time, I still main Aromages in Master Duel. Looking up Rikka/Sunavalon combos and experimenting with multiple plant engines to set up an Aromage board + Teardrop and similar, running 60-card plant engine piles designed to serve up Aroma boards and are somehow ridiculously consistent, is the best thing in the entire game for me.

Aliens aren't exactly rogue, they're more so non-meta. Rogue is basically a tier 3 deck competitively speaking. Winning with a non-meta deck is probably even more impressive. Like, Lithium's Monarch deck that he ran at YCS Dortmund would be an example of a non-meta deck performing well. Dude went 7-3 in swiss which is really impressive for a deck who's only gameplan is to activate Domain and hope to god the opponent doesn't open Feather Duster on the next turn.

Glad I got this video on my recommendations, it was such a nice, relaxing watch and I felt identified with some of the reasons. I've had a complete Labrynth deck for quite a while now and I know the deck is tier 1 right now, but for some reason, I always perform way better with Traptrix which I have played for over two years now. I just find them way more fun than Labrynth even though they have arguably similar-ish playstyles. I also think they are really cute and have really fond memories of slowly max foiling all of them (just missing the starlight Allomerus). I also got my first wcq invite last week with Traptrix and it was really heart warming to see the community cheering for me for being the underdog in a top cut bracket filled with tier 1 decks. It's definitely my favourite archetype and no matter the meta, I will keep playing them because that deck means so much to me.

Thanks for choosing to watch the video! I completely get you here. I've had my fair share of playing meta in the past. Metalfoes, Sky Striker, True Draco, and Salamangreat are great examples. Yet I always find myself defaulting to rogue decks with similar playstyles. Sometimes, it's not so much that I dislike meta, but the fact that I just appreciate the lore or art of those rogue decks more than the meta decks. Happy to hear you got your invite with Traptrix, I'm rooting for you too alongside your community!

Very nice video that points at exactly why so many of us play rogue. One thing I would like to add, though, is that playing rogue will get you to open up to a lot more options than what meta players perceive. Card choices they wouldn't have thought about. Most rogue players are also more open to these options.
@pk_tuneworld
@pk_tuneworld Жыл бұрын
Though I am inclined to mostly agree with your point, I feel like meta can allow a similar process at times. For example, Unchained went through various variations before we got to its current point (e.g., when the support first came out, barely anyone was on the Tour Guide or D/D/D packages). I recall Zoodiac format back in 2017 (?) shifting constantly. At first people just played pure Zoo, but then later the Fusion Substitute combo was discovered, and then after that we started playing like Kaijus, My Body As A Shield, and Pianissimo. Rogue does force you to think a lot more different than meta, but meta can be extremely diverse and thought-provoking too. Just my two cents though - again, I feel you're correct otherwise. Thanks, by the way, for the kind comments, and thanks for choosing to watch the video :)

Load of BS. Most archetypes that were meta at one point or at least tiered have been fun and unique in their own way. They're usually the ones pushing the game's boundaries in meaningful ways. Decks like Shaddolls, Tearlaments, Nekroz, Drytron, Zoodiacs, Floo, Labrynth, Sky strikers all redefined and revolutionized aspects of the game more than all rogue decks combined. As for fun, that's pretty subjective. Ishizu Tear was the most fun I've had in the game, but plenty of people would say it's cringe because it's so strong. Meanwhile, some floodgate turbo decks like Heroes and Monarchs are hailed as fun decks because they're rogue.
@ashemabahumat4173
@ashemabahumat4173 Жыл бұрын
@@kashira-0 all of the decks you listed are currently off-meta rn, aside from maybe tear and floo, and that's just cuz they have a not terrible matchup to stuff currently, and even then tear was neutered multiple times. And Tear is fun, it was just too good on top of that. The subjectivity doesn't really say anything in regards to the original point tho, especially when most people do consider rogue decks more fun while meta is often times boring or too sweaty... also, fuck strikers.
@kashira-0
@kashira-0 Жыл бұрын
@@ashemabahumat4173 Those decks being off-meta now doesn't say anything. Saying weak decks are more unique is simply false when plenty of meta decks have been both unique and impactful to the game's mechanics. "Most people do consider rogue decks more fun while meta is often times boring" key word = consider. The majority of rogue players take pride in being so special and different by not playing a good deck. Kinda pretentious, but to each their own. It's literally a subjective taste as long as there is at least a single person who thinks a deck is fun to them. "Also, fuck Strikers." Ah yes, classic. I love it when the majority of active hate towards decks and their players almost always comes from rogue players who supposedly play for fun only. Anyways... activate Engage, response?
@four-en-tee
@four-en-tee Жыл бұрын
The meta is just dictated by whatever the best deck is currently. Exosisters are probably tier 2 this format since they counter Tear and Unchained, which are both very prominent decks this format. That doesn't make Exosisters any less of an interesting deck, it just means its meta this format. The real issue people have is just seeing the same decks dominate over and over. Spectators and casual players like to see variety in the decks they watch and play against, and those expectations are just incredibly unrealistic compared to how competitive metas actually form and evolve. This isn't locals (which is a more friendly tournament), people are playing at a YCS to advance to the world championship qualifiers. Its the rewards that set the stakes and expectations. People who take rogue decks or even non-meta decks (like Lithium with his Monarch brew) to those events are there to just see how far they can push themselves and their deck builds more than anything, they're not going in with the expectation that they'll advance to the WCQs. Its about self-improvement for those players more than anything, which is fine. And its because of that why its exciting when a rogue deck player does manage to make it to the top, like yesterday's Vanquished Soul player at YCS Dortmund who ended the event at 2nd place. Its a testament of being able to overcome the odds and come out the other end as the better duelist. Because lets be fair: playing a tier 1 archetype can feel really pay-to-win. All the other players are siding in order to counter you specifically when you run a tier 1 deck, which should say a lot about the power of your deck.

I really like this video man, very good and inspiring. Rouge is the definition of freedom in a game where the most efficient strategy just make everyone move like sheep repeating the same combo again and again, the fun element of a GAME will always have a place to still exist on Rouge. From the very beginning of my time in yugioh back in 2004 to nowdays, im always prioritising the fun and epic over the Meta as my motto and actually is a very good way to always enjoy the game and make your brain go beyond with more complex ways to play. Personally 2 of my favorites decks now are a normal monster/generic material fusion Turbo (Dragoon+DM Fusions/quimera/transcendosaurrus/last warrior) and a token/owner control (lava golem like +remove brainwashing/owner seal and give token traps to turbo Synchro/link) and is amazing how good they can be even in the current meta, not with every opponent but always with a window to make them shine, and since they're my own recipe make like you said, a sign of uniqueness that make me feel proud of them.

I recently built a Virtual World deck despite it not being as good in the current backrow heavy Meta just because i love the artstyle and wanted a synchro deck i could trust, then when i found out it's even better when mixed with PUNK, i discovered i loved THAT decks artstyle too! Now i have a consistent rouge deck made of 2 archetypes i love to look at while also being able to contend with frontrow heavy decks.

Damn, that's pretty nice, congratulations on the accomplishment! I have like three friends in my group that have played Plunder before - the deck is so damn unique, and the art and concept behind the cards that feeds into its playstyle (it kinda plays into the pirate theme by "plundering" off your opponent's attributes) is really sick. Your advice is surely an inspiration to more players in the community :) Thanks for the kind comments, and thanks for choosing to watch this video :D

Another huge reason people play rogue decks (but won’t admit it) is because you can blame either your weaker deck or mainly your opponent’s stronger deck for your losses. « It’s not my fault » « there’s nothing I could have done » Etc etc. Just like it’s easier to play a multiplayer game and blame your team rather than facing defeat in a 1v1 fighting game for example. I have been guilty of choosing rogue to flee from the stress of my team’s expectations after I got back into the game. I felt like I’d never be able to get back to my old level and kept to playing weaker decks so that I didn’t have to face the reality that I got worse during the years where in person events were not taking place. Very interesting topic overall. Nice video.
@pk_tuneworld
@pk_tuneworld Жыл бұрын
That is a fair reason. I didn't touch up on it because I don't know how many people actually think like that - I like to be optimistic and think everyone tries to take every loss as a means to improve regardless of playing meta or rogue. Nonetheless, such a mindset does exist. I do appreciate the comparison to multiplayer games - for those games, at least, you definitely hear about those types of complaints. Thanks for choosing to watch the video :)

Even tho Im mainly a Goat Format player, I’ve adapted what I learned being a rogue player from 2014-2020, and I’ve found so many synergies and tragedies that outside the meta that can still take games off the meta. It is the main reason I still play the game to this day. Nothing feels better than coming up with your own unique 40 and it still be able to perform and counter whatever the meta is doing.

Completely resonate with the last sentence. You just feel so powerful after making your own list and then doing well with it against friends, online, or at tourneys. I get people sometimes call Goat a rather solved format, but I appreciate that you're finding ways to innovate things!

My current go-to deck is a fun, yet inconsistent Witchcrafter deck focusing on level 8 spellcasters (Swordsoul Iris, Dogmatika Fleuridis, both de Fleur spellcasters, etc.). It hinges around 2 quick-play tech cards: Chaos Scepter Blast to banish and Duality to escape effects. It has multiple pops, special summons, banishments, protection, all on either turn.

I normally make it a self imposed rule to not fall into any meta decks, but instead try using newer archetypes to improve older archetypes. Such decks I use on MD include Frightfur/Dark World, Naturia/Vern, and more recently a Malefic deck with the unlikely use of spright elf and crimson dragon. Just using these combinations makes winning so much more gratifying within the meta game of one card combos, a board with 7+ negates, or even decks that just allow them to do entire plays during the other players turn. This is why I love legacy support in some cases, but being able to combine cards from completely different eras is always fun.

For myself, i used to play Yugioh when it came out till around the middle of GX before life got in the way and stopped. I loved playing around themes back then, i guess it was my love for pokemon, but playing a water, or music or a video game theme (cards that match a games themes or charachters) were what i loved. It took a long time getting back in with all the new, and just recently gor back in. I wanted to got a bit more meta then i was used to but, didnt find it fun. Decks all felt the same and were too generic and cookie cutter. While some decks did appeal to me, it felt like it was much more about winning then having fun and so i decided to give rogue a chance and found my place in the game. Personality and fun is what i loved and drew me back in, so ill cherrish anything that lets me express it.

You really called me out when you said "I play the Yugioh archetype PUNK for example because I really like how its cards represent a mix of different Japanese art forms and the cyber punk genre. I'm sure if you were to go to your locals and find your designated rogue rascals, at least one of them would say something similar about their respective deck." I only play HEROs because I went to McDonalds and got an Elemental HERO Electrum out of their promotional packs and thought he was so cool that I had to play Elemental HEROs. For me, a Rogue deck is fun to play, but it also takes a lot of thinking when constructing to be as competitive as possible. I qualified for WQC, topped an OTS, and a few regionals with rogue decks. But also level of comfort and familiarity with decks. The most success I've had are with zombie and zombie variants, some with Eldlich when that was meta, some with PUNK, and some that had been part of BASED. Even playing in 2004, I topped my first event/locals when I was 11/12 with a deck that was centered around gravity bind and injection fairy lily that I made 100% on my own without help from my brother, friends, or people I played with.

i just love rogue decks.. it is just. you know. that feeling when underdog wins.. it is fabulous, they also tend to have different strategies then most of meta decks, rogue decks also tend to have very different approach to the game, their main gimmick, for example recently i really like play these three archetypes - marincess, traptrix and plunder - marincess is cute deck, link climbing while presenting towers and infinite imperm on drugs, lot of people completely forget about tower effect, they are also locked into water a lot, it is beatable though, traptrix is more of floodgate type but it just eats meta thanks to traps, and plunder is just so interesting choice, bringing rogue decks is also interesting for opponents, because they propably dont know that deck soo much, so you can suprise them with effects

For me it's definitely the aesthetic appeal and how unfairly oppressive meta decks feel. For instance in MD I used to play Labrynth, but when the new support came out for it and it became more commonplace, it just didn't feel the same. I like the idea of a deck that utilizes traps a lot, so I built a trap burn deck instead that is MUCH more fun to me. That said, my favorite deck will always be Insects. Entomology is a huge passion for me, so I just adore you can build a competent deck with all of my six-legged friends. There's even an archetype composed entirely of wasps, my favorite of all insects! And even here I will not just use any card, I refuse to touch any Traptrix card, regardless how useful it'd be in an insect pile. Those cards were designed to appeal to the worst kinds of people. The most memorable duel I had was also between rogue decks. Early in my MD career I was playing Battlewasp (before Beetroopers were added) and my opponent was playing Ra. There was a bit of a back and forth, my opponent kinda built a wall I couldn't conquer with Egyptian God Slime at one point, then I gained some momentum, but my opponent Ra Sphere'd me. So I used the Ra Ball together with Sting as material to synchro summon Ballista, debuffed all of my opponents monsters and landed the finishing blow by attacking Ra (debuffed to a mere 100 ATK) with Battlewasp - Sting the Poison (my favorite card in the whole game, it has 400 ATK). Having your favorite tiny lil' wasp take down a god is just something you don't get with meta decks. You just get decks with a bunch of guys or dragons or whatever. You never see a big beetle and that is sad.

I play Rogue decks, because I LOVE win with a inusual deck. Because I love winning with unusual decks in the meta or that almost no one uses in the competitive. That victory is more satisfying than going with the tier deck already predisposed by the majority and already known, becoming something very impersonal for the duelist. Going to a tournament, people tend to get more excited seeing a deck that no one expects, seeing how you exploit its strengths and facing the meta. If you win, that victory gives you a thousand years of life

Instead of, following what’s good, I stuck to using what I liked to play. I went to my recent regionals and had a better time than the last one. From Gemini, Plant, Zombie or DDD I played Rogue for all the Points you listed, but also two more. 1. I only play Decks with a mechanic or Artwork that I find interesting. If I dont like how a Deck is played or how my cards look its not woth to be played, for me. 2. I allways loved to think outside the Box. And with Rouge Decks you get that. Doing plays were you catch youre Opponent of guard so they have to pause and read the cards first to understand what you just did will never get old for me. As a Kid or a young Adult.
