Working in a mine in Australia, even mines that are currently occupied have some real weird noises sometimes. When you're in an area of the mine on your own, the brain likes to make all sorts of weird shapes and noises due to the kind of darkness that eyes can never adjust to. Freaked myself out once when I saw the shadow of what looked like a person on the wall but it was just the top of the LV's snorkel with its tubing connecting to the vehicle.

It's always a little funny to compare what a real mine looks like, to what video game developers think a real mine looks like. That being said, I was surprised they put in the refuge chamber, given the rest of the mine is supported with beams lashed together and looks like it's from the 12th century. Although I don't know why they're storing propane in the shelter... random unsafe flammable liquids seems to be a recurring theme in a lot of these horror games.

That's some insanely dangerous work you do. I'm sure the safety protocol and regulations have improved greatly over the years but I still wonder how one could willingly venture into those tunnels knowing you may never come out.

I worked in an underground mine (copper/gold, not a miner but as geologist). Only took me 8 mo to apply to another job that was a surface operation. There's always noises, creaks and groans from the rock - when you turn off your headlamp in an area without lights strung up, its unsettling. It's not even that its underground or anything - what got me was the sense that when something went wrong, it would go very wrong, and you've got to put a lot of faith in guys who are driven by production/output premiums (miners get bonuses when their heading/stope exceeds targets - greed surpasses safety).

As someone who has grown up not far from a town (underground) that is literally on fire due to coal mines, I can agree that abandoned mine exploring is dangerous business. The bird you were talking about at the beginning is a canary; they were often used as a way to determine whether or not it was safe to go down a passage. If the canary didn't return, the miners knew that it wasn't safe.

Welcome back and I hope that you are continuing getting better and stronger. They use to use canaries for poison gasses in mines. Mines are ridiculously dangerous once closed down. There's a reason why they flood mines where they can as it's increasingly difficult to keep people out of them. Even with that, they've had to install metal grates to keep divers out because hypothermia and render them in some serious trouble if they aren't experienced or they get stuck in an area that hadn't been mapped or was common to have rock collapses. Connecticut they had aggressively welded grates around openings to underground mines one to protect people but in some cases to prevent people coming into contact with bears, bats, wild dogs and poison snakes.Lake Peigneur in Louisiana had an active salt mine below it until Texaco drilled some pilot holes for oil but got the coordinates wrong and ended up drilling into the ceiling of one of the mine's shafts and drained the lake into the mine which obviously dissolved the salt, luckily no one got hurt because of great safety drills. The mine is Centralia PA is so famous because there is a historic hundred year fire burning through veins of anthracite coal which is now looking more like 250 year fire. There's just simply not enough ways or resources to contain the fire so it just burns on unchallenged. Look at the byproducts of old mining through the centuries and all the retaining ponds or waste pulled out of the minds that are highly toxic now extremely corrosive basically cancer pits at best. I believe in Greece or Italy there were a number of retainment ponds that had collapsed and killed hundreds of people because the ponds were not designed to be a long-term solution and were never addressed and that isn't even taking into account how that is still happening in Europe, Africa, South America, Central America and Asia. If it's happening in the US it's either being covered up or super funded out to try and fix the damage.

His channel is called “Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places.” The video with the swinging chain is one of two he has about the Horton Mine. He has another creepy mine video called, “Creepy Sounds Captured in an Abandoned Mine While Reviewing the ThruNite TN12 Flashlight.” He’s also very knowledgeable about mines and often finds really cool antiques in them. My grandpa was a coal miner and from my understanding, it’s not necessarily uncommon for weird or creepy stuff to happen in mines. Miners also have their own little superstition called “tommyknockers,” and it’s believed by some that they’re the ghosts of dead miners who warn the living miners of injury, death, or collapse.

For what its worth, when i received my first diagnosis of COVID, it really wasnt that bad. Felt a bit like a cold, had a fever and some chills but overall, it was maby 2-3 days of feeling crappy then back to normal. The strange thing was that instead of loss in smell or taste, i actually had numbness in my fingertips, and not just one but all of them. It was very strange, but alas, thats not where the story ends. This is probably the most important part, in case anyone else hasnt had a similar experience previously. Long COVID is extremely real, and something i hope everyone does their best to avoid any way possible. I was once a commercial electrician, my dream job, 2 years in and primed to get my license until i got COVID. Once i returned to work, it became increasingly difficult to breathe. Even just walking up a small staircase of 6-8 stairs was extremely unbearable, and as such i was terminated from my position due to lack of performance. I have yet to recover enough to go back, and i miss it every day. So please everyone, so ur part in any way u can to reduce the possibility/risk of infection. Sorry for the long-winded story, but i felt it was important to share. Stay safe everyone, and Foster, so glad to see ur return and the great news of ur recovery. I hope nothing but the best for u in 2024, as well as anyone still reading this far. Love u all

Love the videos as always! Small note for the developer or whoever wrote the description there that the 1900s is the 20th century, not the 19th century. Just wanted to point that out!

Fooster. Why. WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE THIS VIDEO TO CLEAR THE SINUSES. Oh my soul, I am literally watching this through my fingers. One of my favourite parts is when you touch the radio and the hanging miners appear...then you go back to the office door and say "Can we go in now?" 🤣

Good story. I always enjoy following the Lore in games. Few good jump scares, too. The video link of that Explorer in the mine with the swinging chain, I've seen that one before too, pretty creepy. There are quite a few good mine exploring videos online, There is an older video, pretty sure it was based in russia, about a gentleman who walks to the edge of a vertical mine shaft, And as he looks down, there is an entity inside the shaft that looks up at him with glowing eyes, Something is looking back at him and it's pretty creepy. There is also another one Of another Explorer that goes nearly 300 feet down into an abandoned mine, And as he is walking and talking to the camera, All of a sudden there is a disembodied scream/screech from something even deeper down in the mine, I swear this explorer absolutely wet himself, and he froze under pure fear. Whatever it was, It did not sound natural or like any animal. I don't have a fear of exploring abandoned or haunted places, And I love the idea of anything monster, creature, alien or paranormal related, but I always have some very basic rules in place when doing so; 1. Never explore alone, Always have a buddy system in place because you never know what you're going to run into. 2. Always bring adequate lighting, don't ever bring a cheap flashlight, bring a powerful flashlight and spares. 3. If you re going to record, Cameras front and back, Capture every angle. 4. Bring something to defend yourself, You would rather have something and not need it, than need it and not have it. Now having said all that, I would never explore an abandoned mine; Not because of what I might find, But purely because of the instability of an abandoned mine. In early 2008, I and a couple of my friends explored an old cave system in New zealand when I still lived there, We saw colonies of an insect called the 'Giant Weta', Think of it like an underground cricket the size of a clenched fist, (should google that) nasty looking things. But although they did not scare us too much, It was the constant falling of dust from the ceilings, and bits of mud falling down the wall that scared us the most, It just showed us how unstable everything was. We stopped talking as we slowly moved through the rest of the cave system. I swear I could hear my heart beat out of my chest, Thinking that was even too loud. I was only eighteen back then, but the fear of collapse of the cave was enough to stop me from exploring any other mines and caves since.

Is the game actually set in the late 19th century or just in a mine from the 19th century? The car driving, office setup, and other modern amenities had me questioning that opening description of the game. Glad your health is improving and you're back in the game.

It's good to have you back finally! I'm currently sick as well, so I feel you with the whole sinus thing, it's awful lol. Honestly surprised at the level of detail that went into this. I mean, sure, it's just a walking sim, but they put a lot of effort into it imo. The story was rather tragic and I Was honestly expecting it to be more grounded in reality in regards to what actually happened. I was thinking more along the lines of some kind of spores or something that made them act the way they did, or just the general claustrophobia of being down there got to them.

Fooster!!! Ive missed your vids, glad youre on the up and up! My Dad was a coal miner then worked his way up to being VP. He's been in the industry 45+yrs and yes, the Coal Miners Prayer is a real thing as he has it hung in his office and even has it memorized. Being a Coal miners daughter is something I'm very proud of and have had the cool experiences of going inside many. Thanks for the video and keep it up! Much support from Nashville TN!❤

My wife's family has partial ownership of a gold mine. It's not a big mine, they don't pull a lot of gold out, but they still get some. And they let owners tour the place, which is what we did one year. It was fascinating, and kind of haunting. It was dark of course, and cool. Not cold, just cool. Even though it was summer outside. The ceiling was very low in places, and we had to crawl down and up an incline with only a rope set in supports on the side to help us. It did not effect me the way I thought it would. I didn't grow panicky, or think about the weight of stone above me. I just remember thinking about how still it was. Still, cold, and close. Now, water on the other hand is another thing entirely. Sitting in a boat, and thinking how high I am above the "ground", even though I know I would float. It's eerie and uncomfortable. Clearly, I don't like the water. It's always moving and it's barely there, but at the same time it can drown you.

Merry Christmas! Your videos bring peace for me. 2023 ended with a bang for me. My uncle family perished during the Israel war in November, in December my sister and cousin were diagnosed with stage 3 cancer (both doing chemotherapy right now), lost my job and my grandmother passed away a week before Christmas. Hopefully 2024 will be a banger for everyone! Happy new year Fooster. I wish you a speedy recovery, I need your videos to get me through this shitshow times.

Good to see you back. Great stuff. My son visited Australia and went down into a copper mine I believe it was. Not deep enough for him, but he loved every minute off it. I would guess because the lights worked the whole time. I've been underground and turned light off on purpose. Not something I would want to experience when not by choice.
