I've used a flail mower cutting road side ditches. Nothing like getting caught up in some wire or a hidden roll of fencing somebody had dumped. The blades can be tedious to replace but it will definitely cut anything from short grass to tall grass with ease. It can also do some light bush hogging.

Flail motors are amazing. But in that video I see the guy to low and clip the dirt. NO NOT LET IT HIT THE DIRT. It fills the flails and then it doesn’t cut straight and it mangles your yard. And switching flails isn’t cheap or easy. Also don’t let them hit gravel or tree stumps. Raise them a bit on uneven ground so they never hit the dirt or gravel and they will work great for years. We have a massive one for our 4x4 that can angle so you can cut the ditch but it adds more flails to clear the dirt and the angles sometimes shave a lil high spots but after all these years the yard is level and it cost me a lot of time fixing flails and sharpening triangles.

Skeptical, because I’ve had one... They take considerably more power, unless you sacrifice ground speed. Also, no mention of maintenance. The cost of servicing the flails is much higher along with the time required. Finish mowing? By their design, they rip the blades and stems. They definitely have their place, but for anyone concerned with the health of their turf. They’re a pretty crude option.

Our Husqvarna 23hp lawn tractor with a 46" deck can be used for finish mowing and brush hogging. ..... But only in that order. Bent blades and wheels broken off change things. It behaves more like a rotovator on one side and graduated height cut toward the other. Some might not care for that type of lawn finish. My wife would fit well in that category. Now....how can I get that front corner pulled up a bit? 🤔.... Tie wire, turn buckle, scrap steel. 🤯 Don't see why it shouldn't work 😂😂😂😂.

Looking for something that's a hybrid between a flail mower, tiller, and forestry mulcher. Looking for an attachment that does it all in one pass. Mainly for wildlife food plots. Grab maybe a inch or two of soil and mix it all in.
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 26 күн бұрын
Mulcher will do it, but you'll wear the teeth out pretty quick. Tiller won't process woody material. Flail will be in the same boat as the mulcher, but also won't till the ground at all. A tool doesn't exist if you don't want to wear it out prematurely. If you don't care about that, then go with the mulcher. It is far and away the most expensive of the options.

My land lord has a John Deere tractor that I use a lot for working around her property. It’s not work, it’s a fun machine to operate. I can spent most of a day mowing or tilling and not feel like I’ve worked. I’m a truck driver so I’m used to working 12-16 hour days.
