it's an extremely useful course, thank you for it! I've tried a few times to start sculpting before, but I made mistakes in the first stages and feel this lack of knowledge about basic tools. It irritated me a lot and made me abandon sculpting every time. But this step-by-step guide is a great cure for my fears of being a noob and making huge mistakes because at the end of the course you'll have made a great portrait and belief in yourself instead of something donut-like😅

I was around 28 when i started and managed to get to a Level where im more comment with my Art and it looks professional. Just imagine getting kids at 30. You will easily experience theire first 20 years of live...if your kid can learn art in that time you can do so aswell. We always have the Impression that we always have to start young.. but we just need to invest the time

@@YuriNoirProductions I was going to brush off your reply as cheesy advice, but honestly your perspective hit me hard and got me thinking about life. It's so easy to assume everything is impossible at a certain age (I'm 22 and often get worried about becoming better at a bunch of things, even things like getting in shape), but if you compare the miniscule amount of time you've lived so far and how much you've already accomplished (going from a dumb, useless infant to a person specialized in some incredibly advanced field in university). My parents are immigrants too, so thinking back about how during that same time they learned English, built a business, and learned skills I can barely fathom learning, all in that same time that I took to go through adolescence. And they only immigrated at 35+ years old. Life always seems too short in foresight, but absolutely saturated with accomplishment in hindsight. I agree with your bottom line, though; put in the time and effort and you'll look back at seriously impressive progress.

Hang in there! It's all about practice and patience. Building up a portfolio and while you're doing it, apply like crazy and don't be afraid of getting rejected, it will happen. I've lost count on how many times I've applied for a job and gotten a no, once you get your first industry job it pretty much changes everything now that you have that experience. I waited so long to start applying for jobs because I felt I wasn't good enough and was always doing one more project for my portfolio before I thought I was ready. Be willing to do art tests. Some people don't like them but for me it's a way to stand out if your portfolio is thin. It can show your speed and skills for a specific task the studio your applying for sets. It's how I got my first studio job and I would never have gotten a job just for my portfolio. Looking at your portfolio you have a very solid understanding of 3d and the quality is very nice. The Panpack is a very nice portfolio piece and it definitely gives you an edge that you know Houdini. That software is almost a guarantee to land you a job if you know how to use it. Best of luck!

I know art can be really difficult especially if your livelihood depends on it like Danny, but I can't think of a more reliable rush of joy than finishing a piece that I've been working on for hours, if not days. It's good idea to start Blender. It gives a good exercise for brain for doing stuff. Especially learning shortcut keys from control + (abc) and shift + (abc). I'm 25 myself and had been really lost as what I want to do as hobby since I never really had any concrete one, so I decided I try Blender so I won''t let my brain juice go too easy (mainly because I am disabled, affecting my speech). It's tough at first, but once you get the hang of it and do whatever you wanted to do, it feels pretty incredible.

Gotta keep improving my art and throwing applications out there, hopefully I'll get my break one day :)

I did the same thing a couple years ago at 37 and eventually landed myself a job on my favourite game so don't fret. If you have the artistic chops you'll be fine with a solid portfolio but if you're still learning, get a job in QA and then from there you can probably get moved to embedded QA for the art department and then apply for artist jobs from within.

This year has been especially tough on me as I was working some crummy dead-end grocery store job. I just had it one night and told a couple of friends out of frustration that I was thinking of quitting. In that moment, one of them said "I just got hired as a lead at this other studio, I could for sure get you in". So I sent in my my 2 weeks notice the very next day. I took a risk because it still wasn't 100% that I would get this job, but I figured it was better to at least try instead of wondering what could've been. I just finished my first week at this new job, after graduating 8 years ago from a scam for-profit college that put me in a deep hole. But I never gave up despite how screwed over from going to this diploma-mill, like many others of whom I went to college with. You can do it, guys.
@JeffreyThrash
@JeffreyThrash 3 жыл бұрын
Your story this year sounds similar to mine (minus having friends in the industry to help me get a job--goes to show how important it is to know someone in the industry). The main difference is that I had to quit due to my employers forcing me to work harder and harder despite the work causing and aggravating my industry and the constant mental and physical exhaustion due to pushing carts all night and working the graveyard shifts where I had to deal with particularly dangerous and petulant customers made it impossible for me to stay awake and do ANYTHING in my free time, let alone work on my art or apply to jobs. This was in spite of a schedule that, on paper, sounds ideal for doing art on the side (4-5 days a week, only 6-7 hours each day). I had to quit if I wanted to have any hope of finding the time and energy to do ANYTHING other than push carts and get yelled at about Facebook conspiracy theories every waking moment of my life. My art is still clearly not there yet and I have zero connections in any industry outside of minimum-wage retail, but I am DETERMINED to get an interim job that is better suited to my skills and will allow me to continue improving my art and have a normal, healthy sleep/exercise schedule until then!
@Floreum
@Floreum 3 жыл бұрын
@@JeffreyThrash yeah, I was having a similar issue, though I was in the back stocking dairy, my hours were all over the place, leaving me unable to give myself a schedule so that I could get into the habit of working on my art constantly. In to of that, dealing with brain dead, careless, or rude fishnets was draining me. You should find art communities out there, build connections that way! I had zero connections as well, I know people will say go to comment to get connections, but going to school for connections isn't a good reason to bring debt on yourself. I had nothing upon graduation since most of my teachers were grads from that school or prior who might've been blacklisted or something. I still found some time and energy occasionally to work on my stuff to keep me relevant in people's minds. I know there's a Discord group called The Club (find them on Twitter @theclubdiscord) that's full of professionals at various hasn't studios like Naughty dog and insomniac to name a few. While that wasn't good I got a job, it's a good starting point. They have critique channels to post your work on and also regularly post job listings they come across as well. You can also try talking to artists on Twitch and Twitter too, though that can be a little more impersonal. I highly recommend Discord groups.

Thank you for this Danny. I've been so close to quitting my art. I've been feeling like I wasted the time of myself and my teachers by going to a 3D Modeling course. I'd recently found motivation and drive, but it had begun to fade. I needed to see a video like this. Where a successful artist doesn't just say "You can make it as an artist if you try/believe," but also goes the extra mile to show their own early work. To give visual proof that it can be done with time and effort. So thank you Danny. Thank you for helping me see that I can do it if I try.

Ended up getting a degree in computer science and the first week at my desk job I went out to buy a sketchbook and teach myself art. Its so easy to feel lost and that you are out of your depth or its too late, specially when you are picking pen and pencil after your 20's. But please if anyone is reading this. Make art, keep doing it. It's worth it. In the end is a marathon and your only competition is yourself.

That reminds me of a story I have been through... After I quit on 6 months of nurse training, I started studying informatics as a 23 years old single parent mom. After one year of studying, a professor told me in a tutor lesson, that I have big knowledge gaps and if I continue this way, I have no chance to get a study graduation. At first sight I was insulted, but after one or two days I reconsidered and agreed, that he is absolutely right, because he just said the truth. I started to work on myself, hard, every day, no excuses and no parties or hanging around. One year later, I got one of the best results in a challenging exam which the prof had given to us, and he asked me if I would work for him as a tutor for his learning sessions. Meanwhile, I graduated with a very good result, and I am a scientific employee at the University of Applied Sciences. I am also making my masters degree now. Never give up! If someone says you are bad at something, maybe he is right... But you can change that, if you never give up and believe in yourself. Others will notice that and be impressed. Trust me.

I keep trying to explain that even people who are absolutely useless at something have practised and tried to get better at it and have succeeded. People who start learning something later in life can also be great at it. she just says that It makes them a more amazing person to be able to do that and that she isn't them. My friend is very intelligent but she acts like she's an old dog who can't learn new tricks. That is so far from the truth. I wish she could see that she has the ability to do whatever she wants to do, she should not let herself defined by her own idea of herself. She should define herself by how determined she is.

December 2021 has been my planned month for taking my life. I'm glad I got to see so many people get back on track & get things in order. Knowing that some of us actually make it is comforting; even if I won't be or don't plan on being in that lot. Hope you're doing great. and since December has started, I'd just like to say these things in advance. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas if you celebrate, and Happy New Year ❤️

My small Alaskan region has finally caught up in internet speed and connectivity after being over a decade behind. Enjoying everything in the highest quality and the ability to download/upload quickly has been a good brain feeling, and I hope I can take advantage of it as much as I can. Assets, models, files, anything and lovely channels like this provide free knowledge instantly, there isn't an excuse for me anymore.

thank you for these supportive words. I'm 30 and have always been in love with computer graphics watching all the movies with cgi and being stunded, I'm now starting in blender and in the middle of the donut tutorial as well as finishing up my first svg to 3D image. I needed to hear this to remove some doubt In myself.

I absolutely love the positive message here mate! And kudos for openly talking about your substance problems in the past. It's something that definitely should be mentioned more in the context of art community as it seems to often hinder people's pursuits. And often they just don't realize how much it can.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for this. This video has helped me in ways words cannot explain and I think your incredibly genuine talk is something that many KZbin videos lack. It’s usually just artists with a very clear looking path and it can make it hard for others who don’t have that clarity feel like they can’t reach their heights of success.

I'm current 21. I was drifting for a while. I went into the medical field because people told me that if I just studied for 4 years I would have a stable lifestyle. After a semester of absolute mental hell and lots of lonely nights crying, I decided to drop out. The main reason was because I wasn't happy at all. I wasn't content with the results, no matter how good they were. I just felt empty. The shining light I have is doing art. I'm a beginner right now, but I loved creating things. I am genuinely happy with art. I feel like I found a calling. I'm still kinda lost but I want to continue doing art.
