I'm actually watching this video from the perspective of the employee. Today was rough at work because there is a particular task that I really struggle with. I find it physically challenging and as a result it takes me an embarrassing amount of time. I'd like to seriously discuss the issue with my boss and this video was encouraging for me. Thank you.

You are so welcome John. Are you currently dealing with a team member that isn't meeting expectation?

I've watched ten videos now on this subject and this was the best one I've seen so far -- clear, concise, and actionable! Thanks for making this! You are a very eloquent speaker and your voice is very calming. I subscribed :)

This is such an uncomfortable position to be in. Fortunately, I've only had one truly bad fit employee and he realized it and found another job that was better for him. Great video, Makeda!

It is definitely an uncomfy situation to be in. But I do think that if you tackle it from this perspective it becomes easier. Thanks for watching!

Hi Mak! Thanks for this video…timely for me as I am preparing for a few rounds of difficult conversations with team members. Glad I came across your channel - I was selected to take over management of my small team after my predecessor quit, about 5 months ago now. I was a leader in the military, but this is my first time managing in the corporate world. Lots of similarities but also very different. I have found useful tips in your videos. I work in cyber security for a large defense contractor. I know this is out of the blue, but I wondered if you have ever considered adding interview/coaching session type content to your videos? In any case thanks for your content and keep up the great work!!

I just looked through more of your videos and found the “spotlight” series so I guess that answered my question 😊

😊 thanks for stopping by the channel and for leaving a comment. It’s great to be connected. My mentor was a Colonel in the Airforce and he talks alllll the time about the fact that it’s actually harder to lead in the civilian world. How are you adjusting?
@cwlancaster9792 жыл бұрын
@@makeda.andrews it’s definitely an adjustment, but I am making progress. I have to admit that I dorked up my scheduling for today which meant a meeting ran over and kept me from keeping the appointment I had set with you to prescreen for your coaching services. That was me…. Sorry! I am definitely still interested but I know your schedule is busy and time is valuable. I would like to sign back up, assuming that is ok!!

@@cwlancaster979 Hi Chris! I was wondering what happened. I appreciate the ownership of it. Thank you. I understand that things happen and appreciate that took the time here to let me know. Yes of course you can book another call. Right now I'm all booked up until the end of the month. That being said, I will be opening up a few time slots towards the end of the week. We will send you a booking link when it opens back up :)

Sometimes someone is just slow (or stupid).
@makeda.andrews2 жыл бұрын
I don’t agree. I also don’t like calling people stupid.
@cwlancaster9792 жыл бұрын
Maybe a reframe: the specific job or tasks or environment are not the best for everyone to achieve their true potential. That doesn’t mean that they are slow or stupid, possibly just not a great match for the team or work. In the right role maybe they would be a rockstar.

So, adding more training (and therefore more responsibilities), and a title upgrade is beneficial to an employee? Not without a pay raise. That's why employees give up.

i appreciate your thoughts on the fact that even if people arent going for promotions etc, they still have growth that they can participate in to find work more fullfilling.
