I wish I could have Simon as leader just for a week. Even he probably has no idea how to do any of my work, I'm sure I would learn more from him than I learned in the past six years from my current narcissistic leader who seems to love to play one worker off against another one, loves to devalue and bash other people for no good reason and threatens you dismiss you when you don't follow whatever he says even what he wants is against the law and can put you in jail for up to 5 years.

How do we create an environment in which our people can work at their natural best? 🙌 When you feel valued by leadership you are much happier and willing to add your own value to the team to make it better as well. 💛 This video is a great reminder that our words and how we treat others matters when it comes to both increasing the overall morale and productivity of the team, and also in creating and fostering an environment that promotes creativity, enrichment, growth and success.💛 Loved the example you used in this video definitely helped to drive your point home in a clear and impactful way.✨

Very true. I teach at a couple different places. At one of them, the bosses and at times even the assistants will tell me how to do my job, take over things and just completely undermine me. At the other one i can just do things the way i see fit. Not saying im always right but they let me be me and let me do my job. At the first place i dont have to prepare anything but i hate it. At the second place i have to put thought and effort and time into preparing each class, but when i go to work, im happy and am still happy when i leave work instead of feeling drained. Side note, at the first place, none of the bosses or teaching assistants r actually even remotely qualified to teach but act like they know best (especially the bosses) and they just actively make things infinitely worse. Just yesterday my boss literally told me "dont teach him" cuz she was so focused on making sure she could get the video she wanted to send to the parents and i genuinely said out loud "im a teacher, let me teach"....

Very well said. Best sentence: Leaders are not responsible for the results, they are responsible for the people, who are responsible for the results. Especially in larger organizations that is missing. But what chance do you have as a „low employee“ to change that, to improve things? Except from leaving and looking for another job in another company … and ending up with the same broken structure.

That's a good question. What I see, it's either leaders in company get some kind of new knowledge and mindset (highly doubtful) or people in organization need to speak up (highly doubtful). I believe people should look for support inside the company who understands the vision and together you will have a louder voice. Takes time... maybe months, years, but if leaders "at the top of the chain" don't understand it then it seems only way. Or start your own company and implement these knowledges. Well... know we know that "Four Seasons" have that culture.

Your assumption of 'wanting' assumes self-awareness, assumes having a choice. More people than i think most would imagine are suffering from not deeply being aware they have a choice. Sometimes factors like (financial) security are barriers that make people feel like they don't have a choice. We just need to treat people well and give them the opportunity to do what is right, because they will whenever they feel they can.

I was talking with a teacher friend of mine and tried to encourage her to try in small ways to make the change she wanted to see. If multiple teachers start doing that then it will eventually catch on and change leadership or cause someone to make a school where good leadership is prioritized. Just my two cents thought

Dear friend, trust is the foundation of any successful and high-performing team. When team members trust each other, they are more likely to collaborate effectively, communicate openly, and support each other. Trust also helps to create a positive and supportive work environment, where individuals feel safe to take risks and be vulnerable. Remember to prioritize building and maintaining trust with your team members, as it can lead to greater success and fulfillment for everyone involved. Best of luck in creating a high-performing team built on trust.

The quality of human interaction is suffering and it’s seeping into work and corporations.. definitely seen it with friendships and romantic involvements. We are no doubt the generation of the broken and traumatized, there are no excuses for poor behavior. Being a good person today will get you terminated.. they would rather you look down and not question anything. And if your company does really well hopefully you guys will get a pizza party. Emotional connections are frowned upon my last job emphasized, keeping personal information, private, and not sharing much of yourself to other coworkers. Lo and behold that did not work for me as I felt like I was in a cage. I am so happy they let me go. It was freedom.!❤

This is a great anecdote, and a great philosophy, but how can a company turn this into something practical? It seems that it would require every person in a company to be rather more enlightened than a typical person. And I wonder if the financial data really backs up the premise that somehow this will lead to increased profits. One of the biggest complaints people have about their job, and the thing that erodes trust the most, is that they feel their pay is too low. And they see profits going up and their pay not going up, and their workload increasing as managers cut hours and shift the burden to the remaining working hours. This happens every day. So it seems like the profit motive and building trust don’t necessarily play well together. Would love to hear your thoughts on this Simon, hopefully with some hard numbers across a range of industries (e.g. the service sector is probably quite different than the tech sector).

I think that if you are suited for the position, you would know what to do. Sometimes there are ways to help such people be a productive and positive part of the team, sometimes you just have to fire them. There is no way for some random outsider to know what to do as every person and every situation is different. Do you know what they are doing wrong? Are they unwilling to change even when given feedback and guidance based on solid facts? Are you in a position where your authority as a leader is legitimate? Such questions are important.

Fantastic...but now companies will begin to substitute workers with AI. Problem solved for them: no training, no need for compassion, no worries and more importantly: cheap. It's already happening. And it's our fault. As an example, since he talks about the barista at the 4 seasons, if you sub that batista with a funky looking espresso machine where you put a coin in, people will still drink it. The art that goes into making an espresso, or cappuccino, is not known or even cared by the average person. And another job will disappear, thanks to corporate greed and to our laziness and our acceptance of mediocrity.

I respectfully disagree. When I am in a situation where I trust my boss, I am more likely to put in more effort to improve my work because I want to and because I feel safe enough to make mistakes in the learning process. When my boss gets upset over mistakes, especially small ones, I don't want to make the effort to learn and potentially make mistakes for which I will be yelled at for. I have been in both situations.
