In this Soil Health Academy interview with Dr. Zach Bush, M.D., a physician specializing in internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism, we learn what happens to our brains when we consume a “food chemistry” diet of processed sugar, fat and salt. Spoiler alert: “It’s exactly the same pattern as you would see in a cocaine hit,” Dr. Bush says.

One of the most impactful videos I have watched. Hats off for being willing to speak openly and honestly on this topic. As a survivor of childhood trauma that grew up on a family farm in Tasmania Australia and has studied trauma and its effects on health this chat really resonated with me.

I just finished watching Allen with Charles Massey, two heros and then found this video with Dr Zach Bush. Well this has given me my dopamine hit this evening of hope for positive change. I have changed my mindset over the last few years as regenerative ag understanding and practice has entered my life and lifestyle. Another stellar chat that has far too few views. But consumer change will drive the change we need, not our corrupted governments and private public partnerships. Thank you gentlemen!

@@thereignofthezero225 Yes there is a difference as I explained already, it is many magnitudes more precise. "Messing with plant DNA to create artificially induced herbicide resistance" has been done through non-GE methods. Clearfield. You youtube farmers are always a hoot. Thousands of crop varieties have been created since the 1930's using nuclear radiation to bomb seed to create mutants or soaked in toxic chemicals to create mutants. Organic farmers grow those varieties. You youtube farmers are a hoot. Eugenics? That's your style not mine. Anti-vaxxer? That's your voodoo not mine. Anti modern insulin? That's you too.

Stress may be bad but then again it's stress that causes muscle growth and health when you lift weights or break down you body in other ways. So is the stress necessarily bad or do the systems simply adapt to the stress and evolve into stronger forms of existence?

Love Dr Bush, could listen to him talk all day. I must point out though, meat is not food. No one gets hungry watching animals get slaughtered, rather it repulses us. Our natural instincts are to help and protect animals, not hurt them. We are massively disconnected if we don't realise this. Dr Bush is a shining example of how healthy we can become on a plant based diet.

Absolutely. I'm a long term ethical vegan and can vouch for the benefits of avoiding corpses or animal secretions as food, and for the sanity gained by not being involved in the atrocity that is animal agriculture, both factory and small farms. This is indeed true of humans in our 'developed' environment. However, it may be different for 'primitive' people who live in a gatherer-hunter culture, don't you think?

Animals aren't food? Tell that to the wolves, the lions, the orcas, and all the other predators out there who are a whole lot less caring about the feelings of their prey than regenerative farmers are.

@@wendyscott8425 - In the same logic, rotten corpses are not food? Tell that to vultures. Grass is not food? Tell that to cows? Bamboo is not food? Tell that to pandas. Tree bark is not food? Tell that to squirrels, voles, rabbits... Please see the implications of what you wrote. Animal flesh is instinctually repugnant to us and we cook and prepare it with seasoning to make it palatable. Furthermore, what humans do has nothing to do with predation in the wild, where prey populations are keep in sustainable numbers by targeting the old, sick and very young. We kill and consume nonhumans at a fraction of their lives when they are strong (well, that's debatable, considering the conditions most of them are kept). We are not comparable to true predators. And we abhor the killing, shielding children from what really means flesh eating, unlike carnivores with their offspring.

@@Benighted.1 Sorry, but every species has its own preferences and requirements for food. Human beings can't eat grass, but we can get the protein from it after it has been composted by a ruminant and turned into meat. We don't eat carrion. Other animals and bugs take care of that. Perhaps meat is repugnant to you, but I've never felt that way. And I don't need a lot of seasoning other than the usual to make it palatable. I understand the need to not eat too much of it (I only have it for dinner only a few times a week), but animals are going to be what saves this planet from global warming by regenerating soil and deserts and turning them back into grasslands, but not if they aren't harvested, or their overgrazing will destroy the very grasslands we need to absorb all the carbon and water back into the soil where it belongs. Human beings have always been omnivores. Take it or leave it. If we weren't, we would have died out as a species long ago. We wouldn't have a huge meat industry if that weren't the case. What we need to do is raise these animals humanely, give them happy lives, good feed, allow them to be themselves, and then offer them a peaceful end, which is what we'd all like to have, and which regenerative ranchers and farmers are all about.

@@wendyscott8425 Yes, but just because animals don't care about their prey, doesn't mean it's ok for us to enslave, torture and kill animals by the billion, when we don't need to. Animals also rape and kill each other. Does that mean raping and killing each other is ok too, because animals do it?
