A rare candid look at the two giants of movie comedy on the 1954 "reality" type television program, "This Is Your Life" with Ralph Edwards. Edited to fit the time constraints.

Laurel and Hardy were one of if not the best comedy duos in history , the fact that they are so geniune and gracious , and were loved the whole world over , is a credit to themselves . I have loved these 2 all my life , and i never get tired of watching them . They were born to soon , as they would have been multi millionaires today , in fact , Mr Laurel died penniless and i do believe that he had a paupers burial , which saddens me , as some of todays comedians are awful , but get paid millions

I am only 35, and I like rock music, and I even saw some war I should not have seen, so I have a callous heart, but Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are classic. It's fun to see them the way they really were. They still make me smile. Thank you for this movie. Indeed, too bad someone had to talk too much in it, but it's valuable. And to think Stan never wanted to perform without Oliver again. Because without his buddy, it would never feel right. Amazing.

Goodness. It was like time travel. Such humble people Stan and Oliver were, so unlike the actors of today who are blinded by their ego. Brought tears of joy watching these tow off the set, in their early 60s, and still jolly and cheerful as ever. Evergreen duo, evergreen.

Loved them so much my fave comedy duo of all time. Only thing i didn't like was that host mocking Ollie's weight poor looked not well at all here and he didn't need to hear that. Stan and Ollie were legends still watch them today they were simply the best.
@retroguy94942 жыл бұрын
Yes and what made it MORE disgusting was that Hardy WANTED to lose weight but the studio forbade it even threatening to drop his contract if he got thinner. Thank goodness finally once they were pretty much out of work, he lost a TON of weight.
@paulmcnamara92722 жыл бұрын
@@retroguy9494 Yes and when he lost the weight he ended up having a stroke, he was so thin before he died. People were so cruel he was one of most beloved comedy actors ever, and deserved to be treated with respect not mocked.
@retroguy94942 жыл бұрын
@@paulmcnamara9272 Yes. He dropped the weight much too fast. That's not good for your system and most likely contributed to his stroke. Slow weight loss is best. And you're right. Compared to today's comedian's I'd rather watch people like Hardy any day! And people WERE cruel to him about the weight. I guess they didn't have the common sense to know he kept it on because it was part of the act. Such a shame that as soon as he got healthy, he got sick and died.

Thanks for sharing with me. Stan Laurel also welcomed visiting fans at his modest Santa Monica apt. Earlier, he had a house in Beverly Hills(I saw it), but apparently decided to downsize as many elderly do - and didn't feel the need to show off his house. He said the Santa Monica setting reminded him of England(with all those Canary Island date palms I don't know how!). I wished I had been old enough to have visited him at his final residence.

I remember when Laurel and Hardy performed a live show in Dublin. I was still at school. My parents took my brother and sister and myself to see them. There was photographs in a glass case outside the theatre. A great comedy duo, as funny on the stage as in film. Some years back I visited a museum in Kendal, the Lake District in England, and they are sitting in that magic car just inside the door. So lifelike, for a moment I was waiting for something to happen

In 1953, Laurel and Hardy appeared on a live BBC television broadcast of the show "Face the Music". Unfortunately, this show does not appear to have been preserved on kinescope, but notes from the show have been found. According to the notes, Ollie informs Stan that the television program has an audience of six million and that host Henry Hall is "going to introduce us to them". To which Stan replies "That's going to take a long time, isn't it?" I wish they could find THAT show! Please, BBC gang, look for it!
