I think the best part was seeing all of the "modern" technology specifically the Spectrograph. It was hardly the best technological advances for the 50's because it had been around for some 75 odd years prior to the making of this video.

Yes, usually a year to a year and a half of probationary period where you can be terminated easily if you are not a proper fit for the job.

2:52 "Destructive mobs" that was their way of pointing out the 'peaceful protestors' back then, diversity has always been a problem, and police never needed that training when we lacked it. This was the slow build of the militarization of the police, which would ramp up rapidly as areas became less white.
