Kelvin MacKenzie the former editor of The Sun appeared on Jacob Rees-Mogg's GB News show where they discussed the Tory government's plan to not drop 4000 EU laws. Kelvin complained that this isn't what people voted for. But nobody voted to end EU laws.

Now, now. These are deeply, deeply held beliefs of Jacob Rees-Mogg and MacKensie. Deeply. Along with return to pounds-shillings-pence. The good old £sd. The next essential Brexit move will be the reintroduction of the guinea. Along with dumping more crap in the waters of Merrie Olde England. This is the Brexit people voted for. That they must have. Immediately. Or something. Is this what it is like when the insects of summer sense the first of the cold winds and know their time is limited? They tell each other that this isn't the summer they expected?

@@ossianx8752 I kind of agree with you. I'm french as my name shows, hence I cannot say I know it all about Brexit. But here in France, everyday people don't have the time to analyse everything the politics says. We call it "I have a job, and mouths to feed". But why is there no consequences for the people that lied during Brexit campain ? Why is there no one in jail for saying that EU was costing billions with no benefit ? Why is there no massive protest ? I do believe EU is corrupted to the root, and I want France to leave that structure, but only to buil a new one, with better rules. I don't get why UK people thought that after spiting to everyone face, you'd have good deals. But that is the lie that was given to you, and liars in that matter should be punished.

Liars, cheats and traitors that took Putins money to weaken all Europe, Christophe. You hit another nail on the head there too, it's just crazy to pull down anything unless you have a workable plan for what you want to put in its place. There still is no plan 7 years later. But don't be hard on the EU, sure it's imperfect but then all human governance is imperfect or worse. In Britain we now have worse. Mackenzie said, “We don’t have a firm view of what this nation is, and that’s very dangerous.” Yes it is. And that’s what opportunists like Mogg did DELIBERATELY so they could exploit idiots like you, Mackenzie, who would actually come on Mogg’s illegal TV show to act like the credulous mark that you are, practically saying, “I went to the pick-pocket’s convention but I seemed to have lost my wallet!” 🤦‍♂️ They wanted this chaotic Wild West so they could seize the chance to grab cash, deregulate every business’s boundaries and drop all safety regulations for private industries which paid for that privilege and all broadcasting standards and laws, so that, “serving,” MP’s could present current affairs and distort the truth on national television without fear of being prosecuted! I mean, How is he even getting away with that? Is OffCom toothless? Has ANYONE complained to OffCom??? Mackenzie is the living embodiment of that expression, “It’s better to stay silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Rushi seems to have pushed the extremists out and we probably have a "least worse" version now. The headlong rush to cancel high standard European laws which we helped form has been stopped and the Windsor Framework gives the basis for "dynamic alignment". So when Labour get back in next year (not long now) we perhaps at least have a road back to frictionless trade and freedom of movement (a simple solution to refugees having to risk their lives in small boats).

Could it be these people represent something far worse than mere delusion? Some, e.g. Hedge Fund managers funding the leave campaign, made fortunes out of Brexit by betting on the downturn in UK fortunes, another e.g: Crispin Odey on film laughing at the rest of us "the morning has a golden taste, hahahahaha". Others seem determined to stage a coup along the lines of the drama series "Years and Years" which resulted in an authoritarian state.

Beyond that there will be difficulties trading with the EU because our standards will diverge from EU standards (the world benchmark for quality), and businesses will have to either continue making everything to EU standards or, have production lines for each standard and package goods either for home or, for export. The actions of removing these laws and replacing them are for Brexiteers, not for the sane real-world needs of Britons and our economy.

David Cameron could have had Remain win the vote by simply having a public forum before the Brexit referendum, where prominent brexiteers have to decide what model of Brexit to go to the referendum with. That would have meant that it would be nailed down and experts could pick it apart, and the various Brexit factions could have a go at each other in public. And the defined model would not be all things to all potential Leave voters when it came time to vote.

Another example is after Trump's Town Hall thing, they had a focus group and all the voters said their view hadn't changed. That's why I wonder if giving people the facts works in this day and age.

"Brexit means Brexit" - how often have we asked people to define it? I did it daily during May's time in office. When she had her Chequers meeting and effectively ended her premiership, she tried to define it too. Boris came in with "oven ready". Truss with "Trusseconomics". Still we have no definition of Brexit. Brexit is done and not done according to the same people in the same sentence. Brexit is legally no longer being a member of the EU. Outside of the legal definition is means nothing and everything. It could mean trade deals with Martians and no one is in the position to disagree with that. During the debate and prior to the vote, I asked one question .... "what is the destination for Brexit?" 7 years later ..... and no one can tell me.

They are not EU laws. Don't parrot their terminology. They are UK laws, often based on EU laws which we helped to negotiate / draft / vote for. We even proposed a significant portion of them! If any of them need to be updated or revamped, get on with it, one by one, or section by section, in the 2023 UK parliament. To ditch 50 or 100 of them (never mind 2,000 or 4,000) without considering the pros and cons and what to replace them with,. is insane. Unless, of course, you want wild deregulation like Rees Mogg does, so that he and his venture capitalist mates can take advantage of the chaos. Another financial crisis anyone?
