"The speed is accelerating and getting faster." This is the exact reason some days fish will hit finesse baits right at the boat when you're speed cranking in the end of a cast. People think, holy shit how did that happen? When they need to be thinking I'm taking off the drop shot and throwing for reaction the rest of the day.

I didn't realize it had a name, but I've been doing similar for years on any species that follows my bait without biting before I run out of line to retrieve. I can confirm it works on large mouth, white bass, and as of yesterday a small gar.

I hate to tell you guys this, but back in the 1940's through the 1980's this was done in the South (USA) with a long cane pole, a stout 2-3 ft. length of line and a topwater plug. Very common technique before people had fancy baitcasters and spinning reels.

I learned to do it with cranks at urban ponds. Now I do it for salt bass in ca from shore ( standing on ledge). 1 thing I learned is to not keep the drag to tight, but tight enough to still set the hook. A tight drag, with little line out has cost me a few lures.

I always enjoy your videos Geoff . I’ve seen Small mouths attack like that in a cell or pack. Your right about when you have a follower and just freeze. I’m guilty of that . I’ll try to keep that technique in mind when I get a aggressive Bass chasing. I’ve seen video with muskies in Pikes chasing lures and fishermen during a figure 8 motion in the water. Cool video

I like watching the Japanese anglers on IG that pitch/flip the tiny klash in the inlets and small waterways. Short accurate casts that land without making a splash, they do like a fast but gentle dead walk that looks like it’s swimming super slow

Those that live in the North, know this technique well if youve musky fished..but figure 8ing on a spinning reel with a tiny bait is much more difficult than figure 8ing on a 8 foot musky rod with a 6 ounce bass bait..this is were the crossover happened I believe..thanls to swimbaits..

I watched this video a second time. What is the biggest bass caught using this technique? Does anyone know? I always thought the really biggest super large bass might be lethargic? This is like Musky technique? It would be neat to know what rod he is using. This technique is probably tough on rod tips. Those are big bass at 7:30.
