Enjoyed the video. Refreshing to see a man break down a lake and catch fish without electronics. Great job Matt.

I agree with the lake being spayed based on the weight of the fish not many hiding areas for forage but you broke down everything you were doing and was easy to understand what you were doing to catch those fish without any prior knowledge and information about this body of water, Matt this is got to be one of your top instructional videos on not just catching bass but because your explanations were right on target with your actions and results. 👍👍👍

Fishing is two parts for me and I think others. The most well know part is the catching. The tug, the rush, the smile and repeat! The second part is more subdued. The bait choice, the rod and reel choice, the delivery technique, who to fish with (if anyone), the desire to outwit the fish. When it all comes together it creates memories of a life time. Thanks Matt for helping make the adventure happen for all of us. God Bless!

What a fun day. I miss fishing all of the small, inland lakes in the Midwest (grew up in MI). We have some good reservoirs in GA but they are all big and a little harder to fish IMHO.

Great vid! Love the way you keep things simple. I've fished some small lakes where the fish are all skinny. It must be out of balance. Too many bass...not enough forage. Looking forward to new Core Tackle stuff.

Love to fish a place few people know about. Didn't appear that it had tons of pressure as they were more than willing to bite. Would like to see a return trip trying crankbaits, spinner baits, etc.

Jig is my go to as well. I like your core tackle swim jig 1/4 2/0 for finesse and then 3/8ths BOSS in line (similar head shape to the hog snatcher) fishing from bank. Jigs go anywhere

Thanks Matt. Your vids are always interesting. You mentioned the lake might have been sprayed. With herbicide? Why would a small, shallow lake be treated with herbicide?

It could be completely over grown with grass because it’s so shallow

I hear that, from a fishery management perspective, if you're catching a bunch of the same size of skinny fish, you should cull a few, as it indicates that too many fish are competing over too little forage. Just what I've heard.

hey Matt, usually when you pink a product you dont have the actual weight and hook # i.e core tackle swim jig 3/8 4/0 black and blue. Im assuming you're using a 1/4 because it's shallower right?

No i mention in the video it was a 1/2 oz

Im pretty new at bass fishing, how do you count down a jig to find depth? Is there some type of rule of thumb? I know its not rocket science.
@MattStefanFishing18 күн бұрын
Nope drop it in water that you can tell how deep it is and then use that to determine the fall rate of the bait per second. Then you know how deep the bait is fall when you count it down

Second lake I've seen you fish and the fish are really skinny. IMHO that means that there is not enough bait/forage for the bass population. I'm in the midwest and most lakes have lots of shad and the fish are fat and chunky. Hate to see such skinny fish, enjoyed the video.

Spinnerbait with a stinger and its not even close! Ok a rattle trap is a close second! But a spinnerbait can cover all water columns and can be thrown in cover where a jig can't go! I'm pretty sure KVD made an okay fishing career throwing Spinningbaits?
