Kars is a villain that IMO is a great villain that gets often overlooked in a serious full of great villains. My favorite thing about him is how he comes to respect Joseph's trickery as true strength. So he learns from him and beats Lisa through trickery. Then Joseph getting a taste of his own medicine cries fowl saying Kars is disgraceful. Its a moment of total hypocrisy from Joseph that causes a legitimate personality clash between the two of them.

If I remember correctly, Araki said that his editors didn't let him show Lisa Lisa in a fight. Apparantly in the 80ies people in Japan didn't want to show women in bloody battles to the death including possible dismemberment. He wanted to include female characters in prominent roles early on, but he was limited on what he could actually do with them. Since part six he managed to include very important female characters in every season in all kinds of roles.
@musicmucker
@musicmucker Ай бұрын
Correct, LisaLisa is actually a groundbreaking character, it was basically unheard of to have the training arc sensei in a manga be female in the 80s. From a modern perspective though it is almost immersion breaking when Kars defeats her so fast. I think the anime could have deviated a bit more and let her shine, she could have stylishly trashed a bunch of the basic vampires without altering the story.

@@musicmucker at least it keeps the tradition of Hamon masters not landing any good hit on the enemy they're fighting and getting defeated together with Zeppeli lol. Jokes aside though, not to play devil's advocate but I'd say it can be seen as an interesting unexpected move for the story. While it definetely doesen't benefit Lisa Lisa's character at all, it amazingly serves to set Kars as an absolute bastard disrespecting both her and Wamuu's desire for a fair fight. Not to say I wouldn't change it if I could. I totally would. Just pointing out some interesting way of seeing it and why I don't think it's that bad as inmersion breaking
@musicmucker
@musicmucker Ай бұрын
@@PrixtoTNT I get all that I don't disagree that it works perfectly for Kars. I wouldn't want that fight to change, just a chance for her to shine prior. It could even work better to make the Kars fight outcome a surprise if she was actually shown being amazing eariler. As is all she has done really is flip around on the oar in her intro and oneshot the spikey door guy and it pushes her true prowess into tell not show territory for me. Imo even if it wasn't a fight she would be so much better with a Yoda raises the xwing out of the swamp type scene worked into the story. The situation stands out so much I think because otherwise Araki is so good at letting nearly every character good or bad showcase their max potential throughout the series.

JoJo’s might be the most fascinating case study of an author’s evolution in existence. From the start he has all the style and surface level skills; insane art and visuals, crazy fun ideas, the ability to create tension and keep a reader hooked. Even though many of the traditionally valued elements of storytelling might be lacking, he’s able to keep the story incredibly entertaining because he’s just that creative. He then develops his skills in creating substance with each part - characters, plot, arcs, themes - all the elements that any other author would start with. And because each part is its own complete story he gets a fresh start every so often, so he can put his growing skills into practice and test himself in new ways. We see each element of his writing and storytelling grow with each part. By the time you get to the latter parts he’s developed into an absolute master of the craft without losing any of the absurd creativity that keeps his writing so engaging.

@@GL_099 Yeah, it's just JoJo fans using headcanon as canon without stating that it's just their headcanon. Just like all the Araki forgot in 90% of cases, when these fans don't read or pay attention (just like happened in Part 6 especially before the Anime where everyone speed read it to Part 7 and then they thought P6 is shit as a result, same happened with Part 5 and King Crimson especially that took YEARS to solve because the poor translations before the Anime were already deep-rooted in the community and everybody was making shit up and claiming it's facts - nothing bad about having headcanon of scenes not shown, I have them myself, but don't act like that's what Araki said or wrote directly, especially when then claiming that Araki "Forgot". Part 6 still hasn't recovered, since Netflix screwed it up + Covid, so animation suffered as a result - yes, I STAND by it that Part 6 is very underrated).

I have to say that you understood and described JoJo PERFECTLY here. This video is so good in explaining EVERYTHING that JoJo is and gives perfect instructions on how to enjoy it and how to take it that I will send it to anyone who is new to the show. Each new Part, it is just that Araki finds himself more and more and gets bold with experimentation. However, I recommend for Part 3 to put it into 2 videos, just like the Part itself is as Part 3 can be a bit too stretched out and is by FAR the longest one in Anime (even though in Manga it's relatively short compared to later Parts). So you might get a bit bored by it at times. The main JoJo there also can take a while to get used to. I also recommend reading the Manga afterwards, since there are a lot of details not mentioned in the Anime, though Anime does an amazing job for the most part in adaptation, sometimes it even improves the Manga, other times it cuts or somewhat misunderstands some details (in the final fight of Part 3 for example). The Manga also shows the best just how INCREDIBLY Araki grew as an artist over each Part. Hell, the art style can drastically change even in the middle of the Part, comparing Part 1 Manga art style and Part 7 Art style is just insane, it's like a COMPLETELY different author/Manga. Araki made some pieces that were featured in the Louvre during "Louvre invites Comic book artists" as he was I believe one of like... 5 or 6 people chosen by Louvre. He also works with fashion designers like Gucci etc. It's quite fascinating learning about him and JoJo:D And yep, I think that going with the nonsense in JoJo is the way to enjoy it the most, taking JoJo too seriously always is not the way imo (even though JoJo does have lots of serious moments too). You surely already know, but I will say this just in case... JoJo has HUNDREDS of direct musical, fashion, pop-culture references that have to be censored in official versions. But in Japanese they are uncensored, so listen for the voices if you don't have uncensored subs (Japanese dub is the best here since it's uncensored and all on top). JoJo is a glorified way of Araki simply sharing his playlist and all his favourite stuff:D It's one HUGE homage to pop culture of especially 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Poses are often referencing fashion magazines etc. Basically almost every character / power is a reference to something. For example, AC/DC, (Wham)mu, Kars/Cars are named after bands, Suzy Q is after Suzy Q song and Suzie Quatro singer, REO Speedwagon is a reference to the band REO Speedwagon etc. etc. You can view all the references, trivia etc. on JoJo's Bizarre Encyclopedia after you watch it all. Awesome source for JoJo (don't use blue Fandom wiki as it's extremely outdated, plus it's Fandom... so bad).
@mordraug6662
@mordraug6662 Ай бұрын
Also, forgot to add, Part 3 is technically a soft-reboot (even though it was always meant to be connected and finishing stuff from Part 1). The entire Hamon system (except for one character) is scrapped and changed for a new system of Stands (that lots of big series that use "other stuff fights for you" basically took as inspiration - yes, JoJo is THAT influential). Stands in Part 3 are quite basic yet, and the villain of the week is just Araki testing what he can do with them, so keep that in mind. Stands get really good from Part 4 (which actually might be your favourite Part). This was done because Araki was feeling restricted by Hamon and wanted a system that gives him practically infinite creativity, hence Stands were born. He could have kept Hamon, but I guess it would become too overwhelming for him and for the reader in fights, since Hamon can be learnt by anyone and can do lots of stuff liberally. Stands are more grounded in rules (but the rules get EXPANDED, so there will be exceptions - if something is said in earlier Parts as a rule, doesn't mean there won't be exceptions later on when new Stand types are introduced - also, the abilities can change slightly here and there when Araki realises he made it too OP - he is a free-flow artist, so he doesn't plan the minute details that much, which imo makes JoJo even more bizarre:D) Also, the main JoJo is made a bit too expressionless and stoic in the Anime, though don't let his outward behaviour fool you, he's the exact opposite inside. You just need to read between the lines for clues. That makes him much more enjoyable and likeable. In the Manga and the old 90s OVA he has more emotion (that you can also watch for comparison, it's more liberal and imo does the final fight better than the Manga/Anime). Also, if you headcanon him as slightly being on the Asperger's spectrum might also help:D It's not Canon of course, but it can be interpreted that way. Lastly, always watch the last 4-5 final Openings of a Part onwards (in Part 3 it's ep. 46, 47, 48). There's something really cool that I haven't seen any other show do. Also, beware of JoJo fans posting hard spoilers. I mentioned the Stands stuff and soft-reboot to make sure you're not confused why the series changed drastically out of nowhere with basically no explanation, but some JoJo fans, due to being hyped I guess, literally post heavy spoilers (some even misinformation and headcanon as facts, it's bizarre), so be careful.

Idk a series like JoJo that seems to break the rules of writing so much until you look into the thought process and find “no wait, he was cooking with his inspirations.” Like once an editor argued Hirohiko with Araki that a plot direction was terrible and unsatisfying, but Araki pulled up an Alfred Hitchcock book on writing that stated the opposite when it came to writing suspense.

We need to get type-moon on her radar it’s the strongest franchise in anime with their base abilities giving them immeasurable speed. & my power scaling playlist has all the proof we need, my essay playlist also proves it has the best written characters in anime especially in the girl aspect.(something shonen struggles with) Like generic anime channel’s shirou vid, it’s billion$ budget & ufotable come together to give us peak animation of any year they drop or period. It’s also the lotr of anime with lore on lore & galore.

I agree, Angra Mainyu (possessing Shirou:D), but the problem with Nasuverse is that... that's hell she'll be walking into... unless she reads the VNs (which if you're a Nasuverse Enthusiast you know why they should be the first... no it's not the H stuff), she will likely be just so confused... since the adaptations that while looking amazing (Ufotable), they dumb down stuff, my Giga Chad boi Shirou especially... how they massacred my poor boi, made him simply dirty. No good Fate route adaptation... yeah... it's just very tough to start with Nasuverse through Anime-only. Let alone trying to start with Zero... just... no... it's clearly meant to be watched only after READING the VN, Urobochi said so himself and it was so obvious to me this is the case, after first reading the VNs. I wish I could recommend Nasuverse to more people, but... its barrier of entry is just so high if one doesn't want to read the VN... it's a very easy series to get into if you read the VN first, but... yeah...

@@mordraug6662 I agree with everything u said especially the /zero watch order. But this is merphy Napier we’re talking about surely at least the fans(like ur self) will set her on the right track by telling her where & how to start. & I personally feel like the best way to experience type-moon is mahoyo 1st, the garden of sinners, Tsukihime then fate since that’s the order they were made in.

Part 2 is absurdly fun, and then it hits you like a boulder and you need some time before you move on. Definitely in my top3 for JoJo parts. Part 3 I think takes one step back on the absurd strategy before it gets back on track, and it keeps ramping up from there.

I’m really enjoying your reviews of JoJo, glad that you’re continuing them! Part 2 is one of my favorite parts precisely because of Joseph’s shenanigans, too. A fair, spoiler-free warning: Part 3 is longer than both Part 1 and 2 combined, so don’t be afraid to take breaks while watching it as it’s not really meant to be binged due to its more episodic villain-of-the-week nature. It gets slow around the middle but really picks up near the end, so please keep that in mind if you ever get bored with its pacing (which got dragged out in the anime production, with the manga having slightly better pacing).

One thing I don't remember you mentioning in both videos are the openings (and ending, but specially the openings). They are all visually and musically magnificent, but in JoJo's they are special. Maybe you didn't notice, but on every finale they add extra SFX to the opening, and from Part 3 onwards the openings change as events happen and things are revealed in the show. I STRONGLY recommend you to watch the episode openings at least when you feel you're getting closer to the end, sometimes they change multiple times and it's an amazing experience to watch trying to spot a new thing and get blown away sometimes. Also, after you're more advanced into the series, I recommend you watch analysis videos of the openings, they are all full of secretes and references to what happened and what will happen, it's truly amazing

You are in for a treat when you start part 3, I'm sure you will be happy and invested. Part 3 is definitely a more day by day kinda season mainly cause Araki didn't want to do a tournament arc like other mangaka's were doing, supposedly he was peered pressure but did it in a way to where it could be like enemy of the week. (idk how many episodes you watch a day but I recommend watching at least two episodes before taking a break, should make things fun and easier to breeze through since it is a longer part)
