I'm a huge fan of Chris Williamson's Modern Wisdom podcast but hearing him speak openly towards questions is so fascinating. He often makes the joke about being the stupidest person in the room but I believe over time he's become overwhelmingly exceptional on so many topics that he can intersect them together into a beautiful well rounded understanding. And his ability to articulate these understandings in a simple way is amazing.

I think there's also a big difference between those of us who did grow up with the internet during formative years--i've been online since age 10--but back then social media didn't exist outside of forums where everyone was anonymous, and smartphones didn't exist so internet time was limited to a few hours per day, i didn't even have a cellphone until age 17 and that was just phone and text. Now people are constantly tied into the internet and their social groups (or lack thereof).

@@justinrosado5177 Very smart observation. Averages should indeed be interpreted with caution. The more general the data, the less reliable it is when applying it to your own situation. For example: Average salary of an occupation is $150k/year. Questions that are not answered with this: - How many years of experience does the average have? - How many hours weekly do they work? - What is the spread between the low end and the high end, and how evenly is it distributed? - Where do they work, geographically? What is the cost of living in those areas? - What companies do they work at? If you cannot answer these, you cannot make an informed decision on whether you want to pursue that occupation or not.

The more I watch the show, I see a gracious side of Graham that I never knew, but it's just so real. Sometimes Jack says something that I can tell Graham gets offended by in terms of the framing and Graham really just lets it go, he really puts up with it and is mature enough to not let that dictate the atmosphere of the episodes 😂 I think Jack's clearly articulate, but also young still so he get's caught up in the "me" factor. Where as Graham just want's a little bit more of that "we" factor. It just goes to show Graham really knows to set aside those personal emotions on the show and to really just keep treading forward and embracing Jack for who he is because he knows the value and authenticity Jack brings to the table and doesn't want to diminish that value and energy.

Don't get me wrong, Jack is an amazing interviewer and speaker. I'm a writer so I tend to notice certain subtleties in word choice that I would simply choose different if the goal was to portray xyz vibe or express the framework or place you're coming from. Not everyone thinks about what they or others say to the degree that I do. I'm more on the meticulous side of the spectrum.

1:12:14 I love how you tried to ask a question and narrow, the Plainfield by saying what was your favorite “that “had the most impact.“… And immediately we are regaled with one quote, followed by other quotes, a story, and example, two general concepts, for new ideas, a rebottle of his own thinking, and at the end of the day… It all ties together really nicely, but doesn’t boil down to 20 words or less in any way shape or form. Lol.

The discussion starting at around 1:32:00 about discrepancy between what the person says and how they behave or other things they say is exactly how I feel about Chris Williamson. I still enjoy listening to his stuff because I think he's a good interviewer, but it's such a surreal feeling hearing someone complain about a type of person when they're describing exactly how they themselves come across to anyone who looks past the charismatic exterior. Also note how he treats Jack throughout the episode with such disdain, particularly when Jack would dispute something he said. I thought Jack had a great point about how people who grow accustomed doing difficult things don't actually find those things truly difficult, they'd find it more difficult to do nothing. Chris provides some surface level acquiescence to the idea, but then argues that you should do difficult things that have a purpose -- and then Jack suggests there's value in doing something difficult just to learn to difficult things, which is a point Chris himself frequently makes (even with regards to cold plunges earlier in the episode), but Chris doesn't seem to buy his own argument when used in a way that supports doing [bad thing]. Chris of course ends that portion with a humble brag about how driven he is (how he has difficulty drawing/painting without trying to get better at it). He's clearly a very egotistical person and is charming and friendly as long as he's being validated, but has a very strong, albeit subtle, response to any perceived or tangential criticism to himself or his way of doing things. Even his "I basically made a career out of being the stupidest person in the room ..." is a humble brag about his own humility, since he's willing to put himself in a position where he looks 'dumb' (when in reality, everyone knows that accepting the things you don't know is considered a sign of intelligence, not stupidity -- he says so himself in his own content). And he might be ok with not knowing things, but he's not ok with being confident he knows something but then being challenged or shown to be wrong.

Sorry to comment halfway through the show but, if any women on birth control read this, life off birth control is SO MUCH BETTER on many levels. It has been my experience as well as the experience of all of my female friends that stopped it. I didn’t know it was a « trend » and I haven’t read the studies but I can summarise it as: I am now completely in sync with my body, with my cycle and my desires. I can attest that I did, indeed, meet my very masculine, protective, grounded man just a few months after coming off the pill and I will never go back. Back to listening to the rest of the podcast. Two of my favorite podcast combined! Thank you gents!

While I completely agree with the quote as specificity is paramount in communication & conveying ideas the irony is that quote coming from JP. Hey Graham, I sent a new email about the discord to both addresses you said. If neither work, I know for sure that Jack has the link so you could get it from him.

1:29:59 Think Goggins is already familiar with”chilling out”. Before he became who he is today, he was the opposite so I would say he did choose to be uncomfortable in an uncomfortable environment. As a general idea though, I agree choosing an area to be uncomfortable that’s not comfortable for you is good every now and then.

I've heard Chris talk about night life before and when he explains the way it works it sounds similar to an MLM

1:54:30 Both the picture and Chris are actually referring to Lady Justice, not Lady Fortuna (who is usually depicted with a horn of plenty).

I agree on the take of Peter Zeihan. He sounds so certain but who knows if it is true. His books are even more down the rabbit hole.

Every week once a week I take Benadryl to recalibrate my internal clock the night before my Monday. I always fail to be consistent with my sleep schedule on my days off. Take it an hour or 2 before bedtime and lights out. I assume this probably isn’t healthy long term

Also I use a digital vibrating alarm clock from Amazon under my pillow along with some good earplugs. Not good to use a phone under pillow because you never know if it can randomly catch fire one day. Also there might be something to the whole radiation thing. Can’t confirm it but I’d rather be on the safe side
