I honestly wouldn't have pegged this as a 2000s anime. At latest it looks like something made in the early 90s. Kinda cool to think this kind of non-digital stuff was still being made at the turn of the century.

OOOOh OOooh!!! I remember this! It has been so long since I seen this. I actually own this. THIS is a niche title that fall into that camp. That era moving into the 2000s but still reflecting that time of straight to video features. Basically, it's an unknown title that you sit and watch, and say "OH THIS IS COOL!" But when you get to the end you're pissed that there wasn't more to this story. A one shot. A story left unfinished. I never knew how I came across this film but when it was released way back when I just did a "blind buy". I never regretting it because it definitely entertained me. It's not spectacular, but it's not a disappointment. The best part about owning it was that it's original creator was the man behind the 'Ushio & Tora' manga and the last two anime incarnations of that series. Which I also own.

Same. It's so obscure its one of the few physical titles I kept in my collection. Really too bad we didn't get more; although the creator went on to make more popular works.

@@Klaaism Well, the good thing is that we did get a update to Ushio & Tora. Something I never expected. And a finished product to say the least. I wish more oldies like this that are finished could get new life. Still waiting to for that '3x3 Eyes'.

This da classic. Used to have this on the hard-drive of one of my older laptops that got stolen a few years back. Been lookin for it every since. One of the few early 90's Shinobi Anime that pay homage to Kite Kato who was, in fact, a real-life famed historical Shinobi who was said to be a master of Genjutsu(Illusion techniques), ...so much so that, at an audition for potential hire by Takeda Shingen, Shingen ordered the assassination of Kite after one of his masterful Genjutsu demonstrations instilled fear in Shingen. Takeda's fear was that of: If I don't hire him as my own personal Shinobi, he may utilize that dreadful Genjutsu against me in retaliation. Legend has it that this was Takeda's reasoning for assassinating Kite Kato and Kite went down in Shinobi history with an infamy that rivaled Hattori Hanzo, Sarutobi Sasuke, Momochi Sandayu and Ishikawa Goemon. If yall get the chance, read up on Kite. Dope story.......

Is it just me, but are the old anime animations; better than the new ones? Something about the old ones bring back such nostalgia.....
@JanWynd
@JanWynd Жыл бұрын
Straight Up! Similar to the Golden Era of HipHop, the Golden Era of anime was in the late '80s/early 90's when everything was still hand-drawn. This new generation of anime that is overly-saturated with CGI computerized animation pales in comparison to traditional hand-drawn anime. You are 100% correct, Kiera. I'm in my early 40's so the nostalgia is VERY REAL!

There is a problem in anime industry, where veteran animators cant effectively teach new animators, plus its not just animation thats good there, effective use of still shots, and striking shot composition can allow anime to be exciting without needing to move as much. Strong directorial voice is what lacks in a lot of today's shows.

This video perfecting sums up what I think every time somebody says something is copying naruto. The way ninjas have been portrade, the music, the sound effects, even a lot of just straight up action anime troupes and style started a long ass time ago. I remembered some video somewhere on youtube was showing how the first season of naruto was copying key frames from the weirdest places like cowboy beebop.
