The way the drivers door is fading differently than the rest of the car makes me think it was repainted? I don’t want to out a dollar figure on it. It’s practically a family heirloom at this point. I hope she can keep it as long as possible, but someone has to do a professional detail on it before the paint deteriorates any further, maybe a good ceramic coat too…

I met Kazama san last year at his shop. Bought practically every suspension arm for the JZX100. When I showed him the Promode SS aero I had recently purchased, he was super happy to see a street car running his products in America.

I have the GR86 as my daily, JZA70 as the weekend fun car; it's an excellent combo IMO Stock seats are great for cruising and spirited driving though, shame they swapped them out lol.

Granny spec AE86! Never thought I'd see one ever in its stock glory. Got my wife a 72000km 1996 EK1 in Dark amethyst pearl and besides the wheels everything is stock. Low kms granny spec cars have made me come to appreciate stockness. Me and my wife intend to keep the EK stock for as we can! What a find mate :))

I always loved more the non-hatchback version of the ae86. It looks way more sleeper and exotic than the hathback. Specially if it is a Levin.

Yo Dino I gotta say that the 1985 Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno that you feature is a nice looking one and it looks like it’s in a time capsule and what’s crazy is that the mileage is only 82,000km and one owner car and another thing I like about the 86 tho is the fact that the white panda color and it’s sticker emblem is also original and speaking of those emblems I wonder if Toyota still make those? I can only imagine if specialty shops like Kamata-san’s tech arts has to say if this car is one of their customer? By the way Dino, nice content once again.

I bought new and have the 1st red '99 si Civic delivered into the US, it has Jackson Supercharger #0001 with an unreleased prototype pulley and a wetter on it. That little bit of boost cures all of the soggy mid range problems japanese cars have...

Yet again a nice episode - I wondered, while watching, why are drift cars mostly using turbo chargers? Maybe I miss something but compressors are more linear to its responsiveness and therefore easier to handle and to set up each curve right?! Yes they eat some power from the engine but is it just this? Something I am missing - this cant be that easy ortherwise everyone would do it :D
@__-vb3ht Жыл бұрын
Turbo technology has come a long way. modern turbochargers use twin scroll, hybrid, etc. designs that build power more evenly. It also depends on piping, wastegate setup, ECU mapping. Some competition cars use anti-lag for example. If you build a turbocharged engine the right way, the power curve won't be an issue anymore. Also, turbos are more universal, cheaper to manufacture, easier to swap out, etc. For example you can package them easier, fit them wherever there's space in the engine bay. Supercharger kits are usually specific to the engine. And while there are a lot of supercharger kits for American V8s, there aren't a lot for Japanese engines. Probably because these engines came turbocharged from the factory, and it's easier to upgrade the turbocharger than to convert it all to a supercharger setup. Superchargers were always less common in any application, they're just not worth the extra effort. I mean the power curve would be an advantage in any application, production cars, rallye, F1, touring cars. But almost everyone uses a turbo, it's way easier. And then they supplement with an electric hybrid drivetrain, or anti-lag, etc., or set it up right to not need supplements. But really, the peakyness of turbochargers and how hard they are to drive is a prejudice from the past. nowadays the technology is just more dialled in

I noticed the indicator stalks are printed in English, and the gauge bezel has km/h in latin script as well. I wonder why you never see Japanese domestic only or jdm versions with english lettering. Especially the badging on the rear of the car too.

There appears to be an additional (red) lever inside that 86. Is it an adaptation for not being able to use the pedals? Because that's its own sign of commitment to a car they love.
