This is NOT a patriotic song. Lyrics were censored and removed, including lyrics criticizing American soup lines and private property. This has been spread around for nationalist propaganda by twisting the songwriter's lyrics. Though it's somewhat fitting that a "patriotic song" for the US is one stolen and twisted and lied about.

Ironic how much today’s Americans love this, what was essentially and originally written as, a somewhat socialist song. Somehow something leftist ingrained itself into the national culture of America. It’s sad that people don’t usually hear the omitted verses though.

What’s also something to note, the it’s been suspected that Guthrie was a member of the US Communist Party, he denied it, but it still persisted. Also the US Communist Party at the time had also itself been suspected to be working close with the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Both Guthrie and the US communist Party were against war with Germany *until* Germany had invaded the Soviet Union, which in my mind adds to the speculation that Guthrie had close ties to the Communist Party

The confederate national anthem was God save the south not Dixie Land , also Dixie Land was written before the Civil War by a man from Ohio for a play and it became very popular with the south to the point where they turned the song into a military marching song. Dixie Land was also one of Abraham Lincolns favorite songs.

Too be honest. I know some of you will strongly disagree. But in my opinion, rather than the Star Spangled Banner being our National Anthem (which just glorifies war). This song "This Land Is Your Land" seems like a better fit for a National Anthem, because it symbolizes not just the land of the United States, but what America is all about, E. pluribus unum "Out of many, one". We are a nation of the people, and a remarkable history, yes some of it bad, but also a lot good. And I think that a National Anthem like this song that expresses "This Lands is made for you and me", really symbolizes what we are all about as a union, in good times and bad. And as we are in 2024, and we've had quite of few years of polarization and division between people. I still have faith in the United States, that "United We Will Stand". And we will get through tough times. To quote a President "We are the United States of America, There's not a single thing we cannot do if we do it together". Anyway, thank you for taking the time to ready my opinion. #GodBlessAmerica and may god protect our troops.🗽

There's nothing that makes a it a patriotic song. Woody Guthrie just avoided to say "From New York to Siberia/Sahara" or whatever, to avoid being seen as too extreme. That's about the freedom of speech US offered by this time, at best you just get suspicion. Yet it was added to the national registry basically to turn a political critical song toward the US, toward a pseudo patriotic song. Woodie Guthrie is not known either to have been a patriotic, and his political opinions, hardly would be considered as such today or back then. It's not because a song comes from a country, that it represents it either.
