Hi Sam a fuse on that main +ve to the relay for the front light bar would be advisable…
@SamsMotors3 жыл бұрын
Have added one since the video. Was rushing a bit at the time!
@Zadster3 жыл бұрын
@@SamsMotors Very wise. I would also remove the fuse when it goes for it's MOT, it won't be a homologated main beam light with an E rating, which it needs to be a legal headlamp on EU/UK roads. Usually the packaging says "for off-road use only" or similar. This is why people generally put them on separate switches. For the same reason the reversing spots *may* not pass an MOT. This can also be an issue for LED replacement bulbs. Technically, HID or LED headlamps (and replacing any other E lamp) on a non homologated car can be an instant fail now. A lot depends on how the MOT guy is feeling on the day. Search for "eu led lamp mot fail" (or UK as appropriate at the time)
@SamsMotors3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice - fortunately, I'm within the law with these. The Osram DrivingLED bar is ECE approved, being under 55W, and is therefore legal for road use as a main beam / additional driving light. Constructions & use for reverse lights says that white rearward facing lights of under 24W are also legal. All of that said - I probably still will disable them for the MOT/ NCT test, as you could easily get an MOT tester who doesn't understand the regs and would fail it.
@peacockealot3 жыл бұрын
@@SamsMotors the NCT testers are far more strict than the U.K. testers. If it’s on the vehicle it has to work. They failed a mate of mines van with two spot lamps on the grille. One wasn’t working and they said if it’s fitted it needs to be working.

Nice. I’d have done the light bar on the back too 😎 would be great for ppl tailgating 🤣
@wakko0hakko3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, You will want to check out how the NCT will assess that light bar. I've heard pup talk that if it's connected to the main beams it will fail.. and also, if it's fitted but won't work it fails. So I guess if the above is correct, might want to keep that in mind.
@SamsMotors3 жыл бұрын
Thanks bud! From what I have read in the NCT testers manual, it should meet all the requirements. It's at the right height from the ground and is ECE marked, so it should count as a legal auxiliary light. I can't see anything about the main beam wiring so hopefully that'll be alright. 🤔

Good video! I’ve swapped my halogen H11 bulbs on my 2012 Freelander 2 with led bulbs. The dipped bulbs have a projector lens so the led’s work fine as the projector lenses focus the light and the beam pattern is perfect. Different story with the main beams sadly. They are H7 halogens but as there is no projector lens, when I fitted some led bulbs in there, the light wasn’t focused and was worse than the halogens. I’m gonna guess the same would happen with your halogen main beams. The only difference would be the colour of the light and there would be zero improvement, in fact, like my main beams, less light.
@ethansenior99183 жыл бұрын
Been planning this for my 2006 l322 but no idea how to do the wiring so this is awesome. Also got a nice loud air horn to fit at some point... On another note, the battery you take out can be placed in the boot underneath the fuseboard in the rear. Can make your own kit or buy the bits from luxurylandrover upgrades if you plan on turning it into a 'overland' car. Loving these new vids!

Just upgrading the main-beam H7 bulbs to a decent LED version made a massive difference to mine. And it's all the same colour on the front now 😄. You've got me thinking about the reversing lights though, poor lighting and privacy glass don't exactly make life easy. I had a 2018 Skoda Kodiaq prior to the L322 and the cameras were so much better in low light. Not sure about bolt-on spots though, that may be a bit too "overland" for me, I might see if I can do something a bit more discrete.

Another nice option I've seen is to replace the rear reflectors in the bumper with led units.
@martinfinlayson41352 жыл бұрын
@@SamsMotors Yes, I was looking at those, seems a very neat solution. I'm not sure what effect it would have on the MoT compliance though as technically you are removing the rear reflectors. This maybe as good a place as any for advice!? I am looking at getting an L322 as a second car predominantly for day weekend trips, bikes, scooters, winter, family bus etc. The new hybrid car just doesn't have the space and being new dont want it marked up too much but does most of the commuting miles. I had a late lovely se spec discovery 3 for a short time which overall wasn't too troublesome but lived in fear from the ford 2.7 tdi crank going (beware of reading the Internet too much) but I sold it and thinking one of these would fit the bill or just the same? I knw bmw had a hand is some of them but Is there a sweet spot on these? Age spec etc.
@SamsMotors3 жыл бұрын
L322 definitely a great choice for those jobs you listed. Depending on your budget, a 3.6 TDV8 or 4.4 TDV8 like mine would fit the bill pretty well. If you're not doing many miles, a 4.2 petrol could make sense too. None of these are BMW engines, but all are pretty well regarded. The 3.6 suffers with turbo problems but are generally pretty sound.
@Craig-zq2qx3 жыл бұрын
@@SamsMotors thanks Sam I think the 4.4 tdv8 is a sensible choice so the engine is not overly labouring. Most of the vogues seem to be north of 100k so it's going to come down to service history and religious oil changes!

Oil change every 10/12K and right after purchase i replaced the EGR's... I've done now over 140K since i bought it and until this day never let me down (including many offroad-trips to romania/croatia, many highway kms between switzerland and serbia). Daily driver on bad roads in the Balkans, could not imagine a more reliable car (whatever the rest is telling, i don't care, my car runs like a freaking train)... This was and will never be just a cheap car to run, 2.6 tons, a lot of electronics, brembo brakes, and a TDV8.. you just cannot compare it to an Audi A4.... Average realistic consumption 12 liters... I would imagine the battery requirements are not going to be dissimilar to a Discovery of the same period, I've just replaced the Bosch S4 013 in our Disco with an Exide EA1000 (the Exide is way better so far). If you're only making short local trips you'll not be charging the battery up enough to cover all the times the car is using energy while it's supposedly not being used. If you can't do a decent longish run once ot twice a month you might consider investing in a solar panel to trickle charge the battery whilst the car is sat idle. You will need to disconnect this when the vehicle is in use, so if you're forgetful like me you might want to leave yourself some kind of reminder on the steering wheel. The noisy cows have probably had their babies taken away from them, it's the only time the cows on the hill behind my house ever seem to make any fuss. If you like dairy products (and veal) then I guess you'll consider such treatment a necessity, but if we didn't use cattle in some way for food we wouldn't keep them at all.
