This Legendary Lens From Tamron Has Returned and It's Fantastic!

Tamron with the Quality / Price Ratio... is just insane! I have the 35-150 f2.8 and I love how you get a 35 f2 prime (because it is that sharp) and a 35-150 zoom all in one lens, but this Macro lens for $699 is ridiculous. I am still waiting for that crazy zoom I have heard some rumors about (28-180mm f2.8 Tamron might come out with) that would be a game changer, especially with vibration compensation.

Tamron always surprises. I got a while ago my first super zoom 28-200 from Tamron. And how positively I was surprised, sharp and a magical 3D pop, even in landscapes. So I guess this 90mm will even do better :) tempting!!!!!

Thanks for your review! The Nikon 105mm 2.8 Z macro lens can't use Nikon's Z teleconverters. Can these teleconverters be used with this new Tamron lens?

I wonder how good this is for film scanning. I'm kind of missing a nice macro that isn't too long and has a good flat field curvature.. I've only found the Loawa (65mm?) for Z-mount, but that's constantly out of stock.

I'm considering this for the sony. How's does this lens function when it comes to video? Is the stabilization decent? Assuming I wouldn't have any issues if this is on a tripod for closeups at weddings and or on a gimbal.

Hi! I need to get the Z mount lens to make a comparison video as I didn’t have it for this review. What I will say is you can’t go wrong with either. All my b roll in my videos is shot with the Nikko Z version so it you like what you see these are The results.

i remember using the original Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di back in the DSLR days. quite a bang-for-buck lens for both macro and portait. :)

Without the hood should be fine. It’s not really that big. It’s the same height as the Sigma 24-70 DG DN 2

You are able to program the button to switch the MF ring to aperture and back. Or do it live with the Android app if you're on sticks. programmable Linear MF is also a Tamron hallmark with the latest lenses. Some amazing things happen with the USB-C port. Oh: and the weather seals are top flight.

@@btonelli Thank you, I also bought the 28-75 G2 Z mount and experienced focus issues, however once I worked more with the lens I learned it. This is the sharpest lens I have , even sharper then some native Z glass

To be clear: if you are anywhere *near* the minimum focusing distance you will not be at f/2.8 it will be more like 5.6. you won't be able to use f/2.7 until you back out to portrait/headshot ranges.

@@marklosentes7988 if your camera has IBIS that will kick in. Also you will probably use a tripod. If so always good to turn of IBIS when using it on a tripod

Did you compare it to z mc 105 2.8...you only mention that 105 is too long, but not how is the IQ difference, AF difference, bokeh.....between those two...cause the price is much closer than it seemed at first...you can find z mc 105 2.8 for 800-850$ now...not much more expensive...so the question is, which is better overall?

@@mihailotancev3284 I didnt compare them as I was only passed the Sony version for the review. It’s not accurate to compare Sony versus Nikon as the cameras have different sensors, different in camera corrections etc.

Yes but does that make a difference? Tamron has been known for years to make high quality macro lenses. Regardless if it’s near the price of the Nikon, a good lens is a good lens

Tampon has been known to make industry leading macro lenses for years but at an attractive price point. Optically better than Sony but doesn’t have lens stabilisation like the Sony

@@btonelli I had and used Tamron 70 200 G2 lens for a year. Had it with me in Bali and it failed! Lens de calibrated due to higher temperatures I believe and most almost all of my work was slightly out of focus. Tamron look fine sure but Gmaster lenses never failed me! This was back in 2018 so perhaps 2024 Tamron are better. Sony 90mm was released almost 10 years ago no wonder performed less sharp. Back in 2014 ppl cared more about the quality of their work then gear XDDD. Most of folks on forum who bitch about lenses performance have no idea about aesthetics and good composition. That is cos most modern photographers idea about education in photography is watch lese tutorials heavily sponsored by manufactures. Ppl should be in a field photographing not masturbating over sharpness of their image XD
