I've been doing this for a while now (though I have been using the gradient tool instead of radial filter but same thing), I use it editing real estate photos when there's hard tree shadows all over the front of the house in order to push them just right and also warm them up a bit. I've shared the technique with folks in facebook groups and it's always "huh? Why not use the HSL panel or shadows/highlights....". I'm so glad to see someone else using this technique! I actually hope that more people catch on to this because there's obviously a lot of horsepower/capability under the hood in the LR engine that's not being utilized, and it would be great to see Adobe come out with a new panel that allowed more precise use of this processing technique. Almost something like adjustment layers. Come on Adobe!

Thanks Nathan! I'd love it if you'd elaborate on what you're thinking with the pro-mist filter - Always looking for new ideas and this never occurred to me
@nathanwabre3 жыл бұрын
@@SignatureEdits well, I definitely have to test it out but using the range mask feature of the radial filter and applying negative dehazing on the highlights only. Of course it never is the same than using a proper filter in front of the lens but sometimes the bake-in look of an optical filter is a downside. Or in my case, I would like a 3/16 Black Pro mist because I’m picky and I’d like something in between the 1/4 and the 1/8... Using that Lightroom pro mist with the range scale would be amazing! I actually hate that Abode doesn’t insert this range mask to all other parameters! For instance, for the grain it would also be really nice to be able to let the shadows alone and apply grain on the midtones and the highlights. Cheers!
@SignatureEdits3 жыл бұрын
Ahhh gotcha! I've had friends use the pro mist filters but have never actually used one... Making the same effect in LR using a range mask is genius! And I agree - Adding more range masking capabilities to all the areas of the develop module would be SO helpful

I think this is going to be a great hack that I can use for some of the real estate work that I do… In some of the higher end properties that I photograph, I will spend the additional time to ensure that I don’t have color cast anywhere on white walls or white ceilings. Being able to affect specific levels of brightness within the highlights will allow me to desaturate the pesky color cast that sometimes happens. You sir, are my favorite person on the Internet this week!
