OK, I need to address a few things. :) 1) High-lee-an VS Hill-ee-an: As I have stated. I'm old. Growing up, we only had text to tell the story of our video games, and we all read "Hylian" as Hill-ee-an. Sure, you could say "it's called High-Rule, so it makes sense that it would be called High-lian" but there are plenty of cases where countries and the people who live there have different sounds. People from Spain are Span-ish, instead of SpAAY-nish. So growing up, I had always heard the term "Hill-EE-An". I guess that's incorrect, but it's the term I had always known. It doesn't make me any less of a fan -- just maybe a little out-dated. lol! Please stop commenting about it. 2) "Why didn't you do his glowing arm?" I WANTED to do his arm, but I had chosen early on that I really wanted to show off Logan's creation, and didn't want to build my own arm that might reflect poorly upon his base doll. So I made the choice to make my doll Link, before they resurrect [SPOILER]. Which is why I also didn't make his Zonai battery belt. I also didn't want to make his arm because you know I would have had to develop an LED light system to make it work, and this project was already A LOT. haha! 3) "Link's boxers are blue." You're right. When I was making him, I wasn't even planning on making boxers and completely forgot that the game shows them off sometimes. So when it came time to make undies for him, I used whatever fabric I had on hand that wouldn't add bulk. I messed up. Oops. Please stop mentioning it. :P 4) "Why didn't you add his earrings?" Well... this one is a bit contentious. lol! I REALLY wanted to add his earrings and kept looking for some hoops I could paint green, like I did the Hylian shield, but I didn't find the right size. So I was going to make one and drill into his ears, but my wife INSISTED that it wasn't needed and made me scared to drill into his ears. So we opted out of them. With how much hair he has, you probably woudn't have seen it anyway. 5)"Your Link looks too feminine". Uh... have you played any of the games? Link cross-dresses in BOTW and is accepted as being female. The creator of the series has always stated that Link should be androgenous, so that both men and women can see themselves in the character. Heck, in a Japanese magazine in 1986, a promo came out with a drawing that was Link as a woman. (www.nintendolife.com/news/2022/01/random-artwork-in-retro-japanese-magazine-depicts-link-as-a-female) So I'm not really sure how to respond to that. haha! OK, I think that's all of the main points. I might add to this post as things come up. But mostly, I'm not perfect. Sometimes choices and old nostalgia get in the way. Does that ruin the video and the doll for you? I'm sorry. If I could edit those parts out, I probably would. But at this point, I really can't. As much as I try for perfection, sometimes I still don't hit that goal post. Oops.

It’s also worth noting that the word “Hylian” didn’t first show up until A Link to the Past, and we went there ENTIRE time from then to Breath of the Wild before it was officially voiced in a game. So, maybe the prononciation of that particular word isn’t the hill to die on, folks. :P
@StacyDoodles9 ай бұрын

3:34 My best guess is that his trousers would've been made from some kind of animal hide-- making them sturdy for riding/climbing AND giving them that earthy khaki color. Conversely, they could've been made from a woven canvas, depending on the fiber technology available to the weavers of Hyrule. That would give them the flexibility on the bias that a hide material wouldn't. Alas, we don't know if they cultivate cotton. In reality, his trousers would've been looser, like the first draft you sewed, but Nintendo gave us the impossible form fitting magic pants we associate with Link, so honestly your denim choice was as good as any, and looked great. This is a spectacular feat of artistry and I cherish your commitment to your craft. GREAT JOB!

SOOOO next level. SOOOO extra. I think this may be your and Mae’s best custom. But line all of your former customs up and I’d be hard pressed to choose. Absolutely stunning work.
The sewing work is phenomenal. The art style of the body isn't quite to my taste with how the head is styled, but I completely understand why you went with it, from all angles. I think the most impressive part to me is the chainmail, mostly because that was by far the most tedious looking aspect of this whole project. Probably took an entire month all on its own. Videos like these really make me want to try making custom figures. I don't have any experience, time, money, or resources to do so, but if I did, I'd try making them as realistic as possible like Hot Toys tends to do with their figures. First ones that come to mind are either Leon Kennedy from the Resident Evil 4 remake or Asgore Dreemurr from Undertale. Asgore in particular could be fun because there's only a pixelated sprite to reference, so I could get creative with him and not worry about messing up how it looks, where Leon has a very rigid appearance that my mind will not let me stray from.

The electroplating on the 3D printed pieces is so especially amazing!!! I've seen people do that before, but never on a doll customization and it is EPIC!! WOW!!! Your detail work is incredible. I LOVE this!!

What can I say? We're totally nuts! lol! We first did it on our Mermandaloreon doll for the last Mer-May, and now we're addicted! lol!

This is some absolutely epic, next level work. Each time I thought it was over, you added another incredible piece. As a cosplayer, I know how much time and effort was going on behind the scenes of each step. Making tiny boots using real shoemaking techniques, with tiny custom lasts?! Electroplating with nickel and gold?! You both should be incredibly proud.

You know, my roots started in Cosplay. That might be where this comes from. lol! I'm one of the Elder Cosplayers. :P

Wow this was an impressive undertaking! Link looks so good! I think my favorite parts are the sword and his wig but I also really like the tunic and the boots. I'm honestly blown away by all the work you put into this doll.

And cram I did! Especially when it came to the video. I felt like I was skipping big details, and the video was STILL 38 minutes long! O.O

I really loved making the boots. My wife still side-eyes me for actually lining the boots. I think next to the boots, I loved painting the hands and feet.

The level of detail in this doll is insane! All those tiny details on the interior of stuff you would never see is bonkers, but I appreciate it so much as a crafter myself! I hope this video gets more views! Well deserved! 💙 I hope we see a Zelda to go along with Link in the future? 🙏
