A technician at Toyota of Venice (FL) performed the WP/TB service on my '02 Sequoia, reassembled the wiring wrong and didn't leave a service sticker. 8 months later, the truck died in the middle of Dodge City, Ks. The folks at the DC Toyota were very accommodating, found this exact same issue, fixed it, and haven't had any issues over the 5 years it was repaired. And yes, I'm name-dropping because those that do a good job should be praised and those that don't ought to be called out to improve.

@mikechiodetti44825 ай бұрын
I have seen that even in the City Fleet. In some vehicles it was an add on from an aftermarket company, in others it was a factory harness rubbing on a metal corner that cut through. Like he said, those wires were routed and held at mounting points for a reason. I have seen where the OEM ran the wires/harness a certain way and it's routing needed to be changed. Early 2000 Ford F250/350 column shifters with the automatic transmission overdrive pushbutton at the end of the shifter handle come to mind. Some split loom, lengthening the harness, adding some small cable ties, as a slightly different harness routing eliminated the problem in all the vehicles that I worked on for this problem. Thank you Ahmed for this video. It brought back memories.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen this. It's why I never let anyone repair my vehicles except me. Engineers didn't put the clips in for giggles and by the time the problem manifests itself its long out of warranty. On a similar note, when I get a new vehicle, the first thing I do is inspect all the exposed harnesses/wires that I can get to for possible chaffing points. Honda and Toyotas I never have issues with... GM and Jeep... well, let's just say I slice up a lot of old heater hose to wrap around points.

Excellent diagnosis. I’d like to know was there a code that led to checking this particular sensor or just a little luck with a visual inspection. After all it’s been five years (Ever since ) it was worked on. I’m a 50 years of experience retired tech. Loved Toyota reliability. I was able to diagnose a Camry over the phone with similar problem. Owner installed timing belt very recently. Had a crank sensor error code. I told him look under alternator at wiring harness. Sure enough he left crank sensor harness out of bracket and the belt had a snack with it. It’s so encouraging to see there are still honest , conscientious and full of integrity techs out there. You have done so much to promote our service industry ‼️

Similar experience, different location... Had the timing belt on my 2002 Sequoia (240,000 wonderful miles) changed at the Toyota dealer and when they put it back together they routed the oil pressure sensor wire outside instead of inside. Main crank pulley rubbed intermittently and after a couple months my oil pressure would drop then come up then drop again until it finally went to zero and stayed there. I thought it might be the gauge but upon removing the skid plate and doing an exam under the engine I saw the bare wire showing from the cable. I disconnected it, cut and spliced the wire with a connector and heat seal tube then routed correctly. Has worked perfectly ever since. Really love my Toyota's and if I didn't live 1500 miles away, I would bring them to you for service !!

Nice find! I wish all mechanics would be so thorough. Nowadays dealerships/mechanics don't do diagnosis, just start replacing parts and the customer picks up the bills and the hassle. Proper diagnosis seems to be dead. I'm glad that you mentioned replacing the hoses! On older vehicles they get brittle. My friend just restored a 30 yrs old Mercedes. He touched its fuel line at the fuel pump and it just disintegrated. Guess where this line runs... It's above the exhaust muffler. So it's definetly a good idea to replace all rubber hoses on older cars! Any chance you have some wisdom on how to keep suspension components last a long time? Re-lube bushes/links, etc?
