This Local Bún Riêu Reminded Me of a Spaghetti Dinner

We eat some bún riêu at a local restaurant in District 1, Saigon, Vietnam. The way this shop prepared the bun rieu leaned heavily on the tomato flavor in the broth, and combined with the shaped and feel of the noodles, reminded me of a classic spaghetti dinner.
I ordered a bún riêu đầy đủ, which included all of the shoppings various toppings: pork sausage, shrimp sausage, snails, tomatoes, tofu, rice noodles, swimming in a bone broth made with tomatoes and shrimp paste. The only topping I opted out of was the blood cake, as it’s just not something I really enjoy. My gf got a bun rieu as well, but with only snails, tomatoes, noodles, and broth. The bun rieu was served alongside some vegetable toppings, chili paste, shrimp paste, and lime.
We ate this food and gave a signature Dank Rank Food Review.

The total cost of the food was 64,000 vnd, or $2.62. The price of each bowl was 30k, and we also got some Vietnamese iced teas which were 2k vnd each.
For any foodies wanting to try out a different type of noodle soup on your next trip to Vietnam, trying out some authentic bún riêu is an excellent choice!

Cheers yeah this soup was surprisingly goood. Bun rieu isn't a soup I've always loved, and almost never crave, but the last couple of times I've really enjoyed it.

I've tried Bun Rieu and Bun Bo Hue in Canada. Both were so so. They were not served with any fresh herbs and they lacked a lot of ingredients like authentic snails and the right crab. I thought the exact same thing about the spaghetti noodles. I find they get a little too soggy and I wish both dishes were made with a different chewier noodle. That said I am not a Vietnamese chef and there must be a good reason why those noodles are used. I hope to try both dishes in Vietnam where I would enjoy both better.

I don't know if it is the scale of the bowl in the video, but it looks quite small and so are the contents. Somebody your size or my husband's size would surely need to consume two bowls to be satiated.
