A London blacksmith has perfected a technique known as pattern welding to create elaborately-designed replica Saxon swords and knives. He demonstrates his technique on camera.

Swords were in fact bendy and not at all stiff as suggested in this clip, their flexibility is what stopped them from shattering in the midst of combat. "Holding the hilt of the sword he bent back the tip like a twig and then let it slowly return to its original shape." from The Life of Charlemagne, by Einhard, written sometime between 817-833 AD

Not enough time, and it's not an instructional. Look up books like "The Pattern-Welded Blade," by Jim Hrisoulas.

You'd be ASTOUNDED at the flourishing subculture for handmade knives and swords that exists around the world. There are dozens of people, at least, who've made a living at this, and whole books devoted to pattern-welded steel by modern masters. There are magazines devoted to the craft, like "Blade," annual books devoted to covering the latest developments, and at least two guilds for bladesmiths that I know of.
