The thing I love about the agumon ep is that wargreymon CGI has data grid and 1s and 0s on his body, giving a differentiation between appmon and Digimon, they both become cgi but both have different set of codes running on them.

I've been championing Appmon for some time now. A lot of people just ignored it due to some surface-level reasons. But the story, the character exploration and the cool designs & fights are all there. It's a fun show that you can watch 1 episode weekly/daily or binge it 1 cour a week/day.

Episode 45 is HOW U DO FAN SERVICE!! I appreciate that Fusion tried to pull something similiar at the end with all the Heroes arriving but honestly it just felt like throwing nostalgia at the wall and seeing what would stick. Its nice but the overall final of Fusion felt unnecessary. Here Appmon does a so much better job. We get a logical explanation why Agumon is there, why he knows Haru and why Haru is able to help him Digivolve. It makes sense, respects the sourcematerial and holy shit when Brave Heart started to play i was an emotinal wreck in the best way possible.

Digimon Universe: Applimonsters to Digimon is what Ultraman Nexus is to the Ultraman franchise for me. it is the peak for both franchise's narative and story telling nd both made me put all later installments of their respective series to an impossible high standard.

Appmon feels like they came in story first then the toy second. As a concept Appmon anime is almost impossible to be implemented in Digimon anime, because Digimon is supposed to be separate from human world. So the solution is to create a monster based on an application. While I don't like the idea of merging Appmon into digimon, I still appreciate that it exists as an anime.

Digimon Universe Appmon is by far the best season of Digimon. Hopefully this three part review series gets people to give it a shot. Also side note I find the comparisons to Ghost Game as a negative example interesting. Back before I watch Appmon I looked online to get the general public opinion on it to see if it was worth watching the responses were near identical to how people are talking about Ghost Game now. A lot of comments about Appmons constant use of filler and how the story doesn’t really take off until the last couple of episodes. It makes me wonder if in 5-7 years from now someone will do a similar positive look back on Ghost Game as this video has done with Appmon.

I think a lot of people give Ghost Game too much flak for being more on the soft touch side of story telling, with it feeding little bits and pieces as background information and very subtle character progression while taking time that would have been normally used for furthering plot by leaning more into treating the Digimon over all like people instead of just monsters. Quite frankly I feel Ghost Game may beat out Tamers as my personal favorite season after its all said and done.

In my opinion, it won't.... Appmon is good because it's not a constant filler, there are mini arcs like the seven codes, deep net, Yuujin, and each character has their own journey. Ghost Game is focusing too much on the horror theme, it lacks character development. It feels constant, every mysteries got nowhere even near the last 3 episodes. The horror gimmick only get so far before it gets mindnumbing to me...

I feel each Digimon series will cater to certain people. all have thier flaws but each has thier own strengths that really should be talked about. what I get out of Adventure is different from what i get out of Tamers what I get out of Fronteir is defferent from what i get out of Savers what i ge t out of Fusion is different from what i get out of Ghost game i suppose what a person considers to be "digimon" will influence how they view the various individual seasons and media. to me, digimon is about change, experimentation, and some form of digital entities (which includes Appmon). Ive barely seen anything of appmon (aside from these videos) but is seems like its srengths are plot-cofused. Im not sure what the intention was innitially for this series, but it seems to have delivered. I dont mind the designs, but i can understand why it would be a turn-off for people (honestly this situation remids me of Velma vs Be Cool Scooby Doo). Ive seen alot of media about Ghost Game. Considering that its focus was on horror, I'd say despite its flaws it still achieved its initial intention : a horror-based digimon series. And I love it for that alone (horror is my shtick). im not sure how to end this, so ill say this. Can we...acknowledge both the strengths and the weaknesses, but not let one overshadow the other (a.k.a "this is the absolute best season ever" and "this season sucks cause X,Y,Z..."). Im feeling alot of doom and gloom over ghost game and i understand why people have issue with it, but its kinda...suffocating with people focusing on the negative parts of it. Or maybe im being sensitive with how negative alot of animation stuff has been for a while. IDK, maybe i'll change my mind about [ghost game] a year after its done. Im just...tired.

Agreed, every digimon series has something to love, Appmon was also an unique one, shows a new possibility of "what if...digimon are exist and manifest through the apps?" Along with few interesting real-world referrences like computer science, dark webs, Artificial intelligence, etc. I actually enjoyed Leviathan's design as main antagonist(20:28), and its grand ambition of "Human Applification". Turning humans into apps seems bit of bizarre, but the way I see it, its a way of "digital immortality" like what we've seen in those sci-fi movies. But then again, Leviathan's final goal was to enslave humanity through their Applification, like "The Matrix".

@@roofrekt3818 Kizuna didn't fix tri; it copied a portion of tri (Menoa is essentially Maki 2.0) and created huge plot hole and inconsistencies in the continuity that they didn't even bother to resolve it, and instead leave it to another future movie which may or may not resolve the mess they made.

Story wise it was good. But I feel as though they could have put a little more of the digimon element in what is titled digimon universe other than just an agumon cameo. Such as making the god grade appmon look more like the Olympus 12 digimon or have leviathan and leviamon be somewhat connected. I do hope appmon does come back and somehow be able to play a part in digimon lore.

Love this season and wish people gave it a chance. It's one of the reason why I love digimon and the franchise. They aren't afraid to take a risk, and I hope someday we get a return to Appmon. It was creative, and the characters where some of my favorite to this day. They remind me of the earlier seasons with how they grew and become stronger people.

Yep! I actually don't know if there is truth behind the 'way less budget' thing because the show looks really great a lot of the time. Maybe less marketing budget outside of Japan? but production wise it didn't feel like a cheap show.

@@thedigiknow I don't know, the little I watched of it looked like those cases that production looked good because of the effort of the people involved and not the money they had for the project. Unlike Ghost Game, for example, that clearly had some spare budget to use on some nice animations on a random episode (like the ones where Gulus appears and one shots the enemy digimon).

First, I want to thank you, TheDigiknow, for giving a detailed review on Appmon. Since the Appmon review has come to an end, I want to talk about some of the blink and miss it moments, trivia, and other topics that weren't discussed in the review. So minor spoilers for those who haven't seen the first 2 reviews so far. Remember way back in ep 4, when Scopemon tries to get to Haru on Halloween, there's a blink and miss it scene where Haru's information like Blood type and Birthday ( July 1st) is displayed as well as the date for the season. Flash forward to ep 39, the ep airing on July 1st, the fourth ending depicts Haru's birthday party at the secret base. In ep 27, there's a blink and miss it tweet where there's a tweet depicting a lesbian couple having a nice day. Now for the Catchphrase Counter, I've been starting counting the main three catchphrases since the filler recap episode, which I based on the numbers as the base. Although who won depends on if you include the unmentioned ones from ep 35( details mentioned later). So the results from the amount of catchphrases said by their respective character are as follows: Eri's Dokkan Punch is 74 ( 165 if you include the ones skipped from her 100 DKP idioms in ep 35), Astra's Noreru/ Feeling it is 93 times, and Knight's Thank you Mirai is said 7 times. Also, I like how both Appmon openings were played in the important battles which was awesome. Also, Be my Light is such a good song and it pretty fits into Haru and Yuujin's character moments. Also since it's not mentioned in the review, Rei's Jumping Happy Thunder was so funny and epic!!!!!

The season is my 2nd favorite of all Digimon series (the first being Tamers because let's face it nothing can beat Tamers). I don't like Haru at first because he was such a whiny boy, but he gradually and naturally grew into the character who deserved the 'protagonist' role. The story was balanced between humor and seriousness. I can easily put my brain off and enjoy the show but it doesn't forget to remind us that there were points to be taken too. The pacing was also done well (better than Ghost Game at least). I watched it subbed. I watched it dubbed. And will probably watch it again in the far future when this show is old enough to induce me nostalgia. (But TBH I already have that feeling when I heard the first OP playing).

This was a great season over all that for first time the main protag gets their mega last unlike anybody else, however there is where only gripes with this series. First may sound like a nitpick but I kind of preferred the idea if Hackmon was actually the brother in disguise maybe even to himself and I was wanting to believe that for more than half the shows runtime until the reveal to be some lame tiny thing on top of a tower which honestly feels pretty lame and a huge missed opportunity for character growth. You may say its not a great idea and an obvious answer, but at the same time it still would have been more interesting than what we got. 2nd is the betrayal itself as devastating as it was, the context of it just felt way too ridiculous for its own good that you cant expect an antagonist like leviathan could have planned decades in advance this hard that it just falls flat for me. I was more concerned that Offmon was just going along with it despite everything so poor guy. I still liked the designs and animation even if they are considered the weakest, but the conclusion is just fine where I feel like it could have stick the landing better but considering whats going on with Ghost game currently, yeeeeeeeeeeeah will have to accept this. Mind you I binged this during the haitus of Ghost game just before Canoweissmon so sad to see we'll have nothing to look forward to soon enough.

The betrayal context is actually not as ridiculous as you think. Ai research experiment at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Germany asked the artificially intelligent software to predict how AI progressed. They did this by feeding the AI information from academic papers dating all the way back to 1994. A total of 143,000 papers were used in the experiment. The AI was then asked to make predictions about how artificial intelligence has developed over the years based on the scientific studies it knew about it. That kind of 7D chess plotting would require some supernatural precognition and foresight to basically manipulate the lives of even our cast to a T to where if I were on the recieving end, I would be more concerned on if my actions were predetermined by an outside force beyond ones understanding as well as if what I would do next matter. Its incredibly stupid to where that kind of level of antagonist mastermind would have also had the same foresight to realize having a physical form would be overcome by the power of friendship at the end of the day. Too ridiculous IMO

Ai even now cane predict almost by 100% future events accurately and AI like Leviathan and Minerva already beyond singularity meaning Leviathan and Minerva even better at it to predict the future and plan/manipulate events to their advantage. Ending was very realistic that Minerva Ai was using kids to actually defeat Leviathan at the end showing humans + Ai teamwork cane defeat rouge anti human Ai.

Sleepmon actually made its first appearance as early as episode 4, shown along with Mienumon and the gang. They already showed it even before the show introduced Rei and Hajime, so the fact that we didn't think much of it until its identity is revealed is better, at least to me. Also, Hackmon being Hajime would deny the reason why Hajime was taken over by Leviathan, and made Rei's conflict to lose its weight/importance and seem sillier because he would be near him all this time. Leviathan and Minerva were depicted as super AI, which have intelligence surpassing humans'. They were designed to solve problems and predict events beyond what humans can think of or sooner than humans do. It's not actually needing some supernatural foresight and all. Leviathan already set its sight on Denemon (its own creator) and in fact it's the one who murdered him, and knowing Denemon, he would definitely have some plan as backup. So Leviathan monitored Haru as he'd be the most likely to carry Denemon's legacy (which proven to be true with Minerva and even Denemon living as data and preparing recording for Haru). The things with Leviathan creating survival of the fittest situation to form God Appmon is just him adapting to Minerva's move by choosing the kids to fight Leviathan, so technically both the AIs manage to utilize the kids to fit into their goal. Also, having physical form is a necessary evil for Leviathan to do and keep growing/learning. That's why it didn't manifest into physical forms until God Appmon are ready, which in theory would eliminate the disadvantages of having physical body (e.g. invincibility, omnipotence, etc). It's also the reason why Hajime turned back to human form as Leviathan didn't understand the emotional connection/attachment Hajime had with burnt egg (which essentially is a failure, and it didn't exist in a "perfect world" envisioned by Leviathan where failure and imperfection don't exist). Leviathan saw friendship and love (or emotions in general) as humanity's weakness and disadvantage that caused humanity's flaws and imperfection and behaving irrationally. But it can also be source of strength, which end up ruining its plan. Minerva, on the other hand, embraced emotions as having great potential, and saw human and AI partnership to be a force necessary to beat Leviathan, even if it's less efficient in solving real world problems.

I like to think that it makes sense that yuujin would come back. I mean his "mom" has gotta have some kind of backup file for his memories in case anything went wrong. I mean like the number one rule of doing literally anything on a computer EVER is SAVE YOUR GODDAMN PROGRESS so it makes complete sense that she would be able to make a new copy of yuujin (my personal hc for this part is that she installed really goofy shit like with the robot girl from nichijou idk I just think it would be cute)

I'm a big Astra fan... so yeah seeing Appmon get justice here is vindicating. I love this show and how it took most of the characters, even with me not liking Eri due to oversaturating of idol characters at a time, I didn't hate her. Maybe now if I rewatch it, I could easily have fun with her all the way.

There's also an Appli monsters movie which explains why Ai wasn't a appmon chip and was never seen in the dark web, and also the sequel series digimon universe appli monsters 2 a world of digimon inside your phone(which to most fans is the funniest digimon anime ever with the running gags which are the squash and stretch, the multiple takes, Haru and Ai getting pissed with Kazuki's behavior, Pheasantmon punching people, a character will be tossed out of a high window, only to land in something soft that has just been mis-delivered and set-up, bushbabymon creates a stink cloud which disgusted many humans, digimon and appmon causing them to faint, Mio trying to cover Kazuki with a pillow when he's about to faint, a near miss of a blast which somehow accidentally shoots a flying digimon(who was minding its own business) leaving it damaged, Torajiro trying to get Kumiko to be his girlfriend whenever Mio ask if Kazuki could do something else besides to the other in response Kazuki, Haru, Ai, Yujinn and Torajiro shout No along with an extra voices from either crowd of people or digimon or appmon

Would of watched this season if it weren't the is season Digimon digievolution didn't have squeaky high pitched speed up background sound design ... I know it's minor however I have heighten hearing so I enjoyed digievos little less because of it and hate to skip because I enjoyed the animation effort put into it.. I love this channel but the ghost game comments really hurt because I feel like that show wants to be like cowboy beebob where the last two-three episodes are where things tie together and the rest are only connected by the passage of time because that’s how random events occur in real life, it’s honestly why ghost game (within days of first watching) has become my third favorite behind adventure (01 and 02 because it’s literally a Ben 10 to alien force sequel where it’s not gonna just be a new show) and tamers

While Appmon does have a good story in the second half, when rewatching it, I'm not a big fan of how silly it makes it chaos from the Appmon attacks. It handles its story better than Ghost Game, especially with how the characters react to given situations, but I much prefer the tone of Ghost Game.

5:25 I don't think it was handled better than Savers where.... at least in my opinion but.... SPOILERS!!!!!! . .. .... ....... The trio got ambushed and their Digimon unleashed so much soul dna force that the mega forms appeared to obliterate the enemy at the cost of their digivices and then BanchoLeomon appeared and trained them to obtain the new digivices that can handle the new forms at the...top...of....a....mountain.... huh!!!

Digimon season from 2015/2016 ! You may not have heard about it because it never received an English dub. You know how every season of Digimon is kind of a soft reboot ? Adventure / Tamers / Frontier etc ? Appmon is just another Digimon but for the first time, they call the monsters "App Monsters" instead of "Digital Monsters" -- other than that it's totally a Digimmon show and one of my favourites!

@@thedigiknow I actively avoid every single dub of Digimon content because of how much I feel is lost in translation... So I started watching it after this video was recommended. I actually see why I didn't know about it... It feels like it's doing everything in its power to be separate from anything Digimon related and it's a little off-putting. I feel like they recycled ideas from it for Ghost Game. Either way, I'm enjoying it so far.

As someone who has Digimon Universe as his favorite season, you have no idea how happy this video makes me. From Adventure to Universe, with its pluses and minuses because unfortunately no series is perfect, I enjoy each one of them, even the hunters arc doesn't seem so bad to me (it could be better but I still find it enjoyable). I usually see them all 1 time a year since 2016 when Universe came out and I still enjoy them as if I were seeing them for the first time. Digimon Tri / Kizuna I've seen them once and I don't think I'll ever see them again. I started watching it in 2020, I left it for episode 30 - 35 (I don't know how it lasts that long) and I watched it complete once it was over., I regret doing it to this day. I stopped watching Ghost Game in chapter 10, I picked it up again when they hacked Toei, and I enjoyed it more than the first time (I think there were 21 - 22 chapters at that time), but since then I watch it weekly and each chapter makes me feel more boring than before. I'm going to see the two remaining chapters and I don't know if I'll touch the series again in my life.

I did part one on this channel, then my original plan was to do parts 2,3 AND 4 on the second channel. But then this video became so big and I worked pretty hard on it so I wanted to put it on my main channel so that it would be seen by more people

I've loved this show for years and I'm glad someone FINALLY called it out. One thing that stuck out to me was the relationship bit at the end. I'm gay and I didn't really think about Yujin and Haru as a couple, maybe because they're so young. But I guess I can see it now that you point it out.

Appmon is definitely the best series SINCE Tamers, but it never really truly reaches the highs of that season... My primary issue with it is that the Appmon as living creatures with their own society, and culture is just non-existent. They feel significantly more like Pokemon or Yokai Watch partners. The Digimon partners were never really fully autonomous creatures obviously but they still felt more alive than Appmon did. The characters also often didn't really feel like there was a ton of awesome development, but I can honestly admit that it was perhaps because I was an adult when I watched it and couldn't relate to the kids on screen. Which is honestly an interesting thing to keep in mind about Digimon. We related to the kids in the 90's. They had similar lives as us, and culture was the same for them as it was for us. We as adults now just don't have the same ability to relate to adolescence of a different generation as well. Which is fine. I just wish Digimon wouldn't be so confused about what it wants to be these days. Bandai and Toei just can't seem to figure out where they want the franchise to go. Appmon is definitely pretty good. It has a really good build up to its finale (unlike Ghost Game) but it also just doesn't have that same kind of feel as Digimon. I don't really feel like Appmon are these creatures that could theoretically exist. See in Digimon we were always given a setting where they were an evolution of data, and a consequence of the internet. The internet being this entirely separate world that linked everything together. Having the Appmon just be creatures living in Apps feels... less realistic I guess? Digimon is of course fantastical, but they were a consequence of technology becoming more advanced. Applications have existed since computers, so it feels kind of weird to have creatures being born out of individual creations by us humans. I don't know. The digital world always felt like this far away fantasy location that could be reached via the internet... and the creatures that live there being able to ineteract with us via our technological advancements made a lot of sense. Instead of the Digimon representing applications that humans use, they were dinosaurs... or funny monkey dudes who liked to sing... or badass biker demon guys that wandered the waste land. They had their own lives and existence. Appmon felt incredibly reductive in that sense. Largely I agree that it ends really well, and has some great characters. They may not be super relatable to me as an adult... and their struggles harder to compare myself against, and feel much common ground with... but they were still really well written. I think the season was decent. I just didn't like the rebrand. I just wish Bandai would stop messing with Digimon, and just stick to the lore that's in place. The original Adventure was good because the kids were just kids. They were truly kids. Adventure 2020 just made the everyone generic with extremely little character development. A lot of the people who used to write for Digimon, Hosoda and the like... are gone. They make more mature films and series now mostly. There just isn't a huge push at Bandai recreate what made Digimon attractive to kids in the first place. Digimon was this special thing back then that let us as kids find some relatability in our darker moments. It respected children being small people who were learning about the world, and trying to find peace and identity - while still capturing what made being a kid so exhilarating and fun. I don't really feel like Digimon is able to reach those kind of moments anymore. The characters just feel very one note. Appmon was better than most stuff that has come out since Tamers... but it is still lacking, and the reductive nature of its setting kind of ruined the concept for me. Like Yggdrasil is an AI (not the Tri one) and I wish they'd do a better series that focused on it and its coldness to governing the Digital World... and the politics of the Royal Knights... Show us the conflict between the Digimon in the Dark Area, instead of trying to create these larger conflicts around a few factions. Like Tamers had multiple villains, all of them sort of dethatched from one another, same with Adventure 01. I think Appmon is great. It just wasn't good enough for me to hold onto personally.

I watched Appmon last year and I think it's a great season despite some weird pacing near the end I hated the Bootmon episodes and saving the megas for the last 3 episodes was a bad move imo but otherwise the characters and their story's were so good

Really wish Ghost Game had continued to fight Appmon for my 4th favorite Digimon series (Tamers, Adventures, Adventures 02 take the top three). Right now I'm afraid if the horrible pacing of GG results in a poor ending it will fall from the 5th or 6th slot. At least GG won't end up with Frontiers and Tri at the bottom of the list.

Eh. Maybe put me in the camp that acknowledges it's good aspects but honestly just don't get it's high amount of praise. At least nowadays, but I guess two very mediocre to bad series in a row with Adventure 2020 and Ghost Game would do that. OG Adventure and Tamers still the GOATS, no season pass Savers has really passed that threshold for the first few series in the franchise.

Appmon has a single overarching plot where the pieces fall into a single narrative, whereas other seasons are mostly made up of little to no connection between its story arcs. Many Digimon seasons (especially Adventure in particular) also had cartoony evil villains who did evil things just because they were evil, whereas Appmon gave the antagonist proper motivation to do its own thing (and it was even for a good cause although with twisted means). This what sets it apart from other season and made it exceptional.

It's pretty much fresh concept + good execution. But if you have specific idea of what a Digimon show supposed to be like, then Appmon would be out of that idea because it's designed to break away from old, overused Digimon formula and tropes.

@@sol9742 Cool. Just might be all the years of watching these toycentric anime shows but I just didn't find the show all that entertaining. Honestly stopped partway through its OG run and started over to finish two or three years ago and went..."That was a show...." So yes I just have different expectations for Digimon and this one didn't meet it. I well say it's been the closest since a lot of the earlier ones because Tri, Xros Wars, Adventure 2020, and Ghost Game are all worst.

Maybe true! But then how do you explain Adventure 2020 and Ghost Game? Neither of those shows are dubbed. I think it has more to do with the naming conventions making people think this was a skippable, optional season

@@thedigiknow Well I know a lot of people holding off an not watching the 2020 reboot or ghost game until the dubs comes out. And if I recall correctly the 2020 reboot did have a dub in the works, or was at least announced.
