i actually can't wait to use this camera - for years before I picked up my S1H in 2021 I used a GX85 all the time over my GH4 and GH5 because of the IBIS, form factor and portability. For anything like narrative, documentary or work that has even a little bit of intention or planning I'd still use my S1H. I think this is just an awesome fun way to actually just bring a full frame camera everywhere you go without the neck pain of the S1H. And I've really missed that in my life since going full frame! I guess as long as it's paired with smaller lenses like the Panasonic S lenses you've reviewed here as well. Always appreciate your cinematography insights into the Panasonics!

The s9 is a fine portable camera that can produce good looking photos and video. As long as you don't ever need more than 15 consecutive min of video, or will ever use a flash, or are savvy enough to navigate flicker issues indoors, or don't shoot anything moving too fast. The problem with the s9 is that there are cameras that do all of that for the same money (used s5ii) or depending on what you're willing to compromise on, for less or much less. I personally don't have any dog in this fight, but i wish we'd stop acting like asking for $1500 for a camera with some serious drawbacks is not a lot of money
@EdProsser7 ай бұрын
I mean I literally mention the price in the first sentence of the video! It sits in a very confusing space for sure. The issue is it gives you so much camera in a little package where I think they could have stripped a lot of the pro features out and made it a lot cheaper. Record limits aren't so bad to be honest unless you're shooting long interviews. It's capable of capturing an amazing image for the price too. It's just whether a casual shooter needs all those features in a small package. That's what makes it confusing and interesting. Price wise I just paid £1200 for a USED Fuji X100V yesterday which has next to no pro video features, 8 bit video, no ibis and no anamorphic features... I don't think I'll be buying an S9, unless it drops in price, but I do think it'll sell very well.
@pedrorrodriguez17 ай бұрын
@@EdProsser i didn't mean to offend. But if there's push back against the camera it's because people find it overpriced, since it does nothing particularly better than other cameras. If you want the same but better, for the same price, buy the s5ii. If you want film simulations, fuji ones are much better than the lut app. If you want a better photo camera, pretty much anything with mechanical shutter and hot shoe will be better. If you want good ibis, any of the latest lumix cameras is as good if not better... Seems like a half baked money grab by panasonic. It can produce nice images and video, because pretty much any camera these days does.
@lfcruzsierra6 ай бұрын
@@pedrorrodriguez1 You're so wrong but it's ok. One day you will value that production workflow is as important as specs and features.
@EdProsser6 ай бұрын
I don't think it does anyone thing the best, but it does lots of things in a small package. I do think we heard from a lot of the people who won't be buying it, most of the people who will probably aren't on camera forums or watching these KZbin vids. I've actually recorded a long ish vid detailing my thoughts on all of this, hopefully out in a week or so, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@pedrorrodriguez16 ай бұрын
@@lfcruzsierra feel free to spend your money how you see fit. The camera is fine, with a lot of compromises for a high price. You can get something better for rhe same or less money, depending on your needs. I don't see how this camera improves anyone's "production workflow", but if it does, good for them. TLDR I don't really care

I imagined that it looked so comical and then you showed it and it does. Yet the images are so good. Again. Just wish that it was a big bigger to fit a fan. Ah well. Thanks for the video Ed. Once this camera gets discounted. Most likely 1200 quid.... 1000 quid would be great but that's probably pushing it. then it would be a good buy

New cameras are getting released so quickly these days that I'm confident used prices will be more favourable within the next 6-12 months. If it'd been a little cheaper I think I'd had snapped one up as a little gimbal / every day cam - it's a strange little thing and I understand why it's priced why it is, but they probably could have gotten away stripping out some of the pro features and made it a little cheaper. Regardless - it's very capable!
@botbot36987 ай бұрын
tbh if you just wanna use it with manual cine lenses, it would make more sense to just get a used OG S5 for like 800 bucks.

@@EdProsser it's so niche but i feel like if you wanted to do a light weight anamorphic b cam on a gimbal with maybe the Nero's or something around that size..the s9 would actually make a decent amount of sense.

The more I see videos on the S9. I’m understanding it is truly misunderstood 😅. As an Event shooter with multiple S5 II the S9 looks like it will end up in my kit with dual duties and a portable travel cam that offers me some peace of mind over yanking out my rigs. Great video Ed.

@@EdProsser I agree with you on this. Sadly a lot of people will miss out on the S9 simply due to the confusion of the launch. Fun, that the people invited, ALL take photos whether personally, professionally or marketing wise and upload and share. Brand through Social Media, create and post short form content on TikTok, KZbin, etc. and certainly would like to save time from getting to a place to edit and such… ALL of them are in essence Content Creators, and that’s how it was marketed 😅 but the people invited started cataloguing the S9 against other cams not in the category. 🤣.
