I usually throw a texas rigged rage craw or rage bug and work it top water/ just below the surface, i call the technique topwater bug burnin, works wonders in ponds with lots of surface muc and vegetation, great video brother!!

Super Fluke would have been the first lure I’d have thrown. Great bait for weedy ponds mid-day. With the right spinning rod setup you can cast it a mile. 10 lb braid with 8 lb fluoro leader for clear water, straight braid for dingy water.

I also had a similar thing happen to me with catching a smallmouth in a pond yesterday. I went to a church conference a couple hours away from me and decided to go to a golf course after and ended up catching a couple smallmouth. Caught me totally off guard and didn’t think ponds could have them.

Hey Tyler there’s a pond here in northeast Oklahoma that is on Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) property that is loaded with really good sized smallmouth but have to be an employee to access it. Let me know if you’re interested. I believe the fry from the pond gets released into Chimney Rock Lake nearby, which is a fantastic fishery with smallmouth, spot, and largemouth.

fun fact i learned recently, smallmouth actually aren't bass, they're sunfish - which coincidentally makes them a beautiful example of convergent evolution! Two completely different species of fish came up with the exact same body plan. moral of the story, being a bass works well for surviving in the water!
