9:38 is also the diamond eye 5" exhaust he put on as well! Just removing the silencer ring on normal exhaust will grant very minimal results!

I just purchased a 2004 dodge 3500 dually ,4 dr, 5.9 Cummings with 382000 on the clock runs like a top .and I'm going to try this ,and I'm also going to remove the baffles as well in the air box

The resonator baffles in the intake tube have to be removed also when you remove the silencer ring for optimal sound. IE the plastic baffles you showed in the video located inside the air intake. You're only half way there if you didn't remove them.

08 black ram 3500 deleted on 35x12.5 20s -44 offset and project truck 93w250 p-pumped with a nv5600 I rebuilt swapped in....also the intake centre section if you take the baffling and foam it makes the factory intake flow and sound much better.

Got myself a 2014 1 ton 3500 with the 6.7 Cummins, only thing I don't like is the cloth interior. So far she's just got a 5" straight pipe, s&b intake, deletes, and a bullydog GT tuner. Soon I plan on taking out the "aftermarket muffler" and throw on an 8" tip.

Not exactly the whistle I remember form the old M818 I drove in the military, but still sounds good....I've driven, at different times, nearly anything you could name on wheels and lot of tracked equipment...but these days it's mostly a little 4-cyl econo car back and forth to work and moving trucks around the yard / shop - old school Detroit's will always be my favorite sound, though.....

The silencer ring does not increase teh whine you hear in the exhaust. It muffles teh sound that you hear from the intake side. Removing it will not make noticeable difference with the intake "muffler" still in place.

Tiffany Pyles Glad to see someone else who understands this. I couldn't even understand why he went to the back of the truck when it was started up. The ring was on the intake side, not the exhaust. It makes zero difference to the exhaust sound. Anything he thought he heard different at the tailpipe was his imagination - a placebo effect, if you will. I took the silencer ring out on my '94 12-valve years ago, so I can vouch for this.

Tiffany Pyles not only does it not change the sound but it also causes the air rushing into the turbo to become more turbulent and vibrate the shaft causing premature bearing and seal wear on the turbo itself. this guy is a burnout and shouldn't own a truck. maybe a honda

I can't drive yet, but my dad's daily driver is a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (the only mods he did was put on some new headlights, new gas cap and new hood latches) but he also has a nearly perfect condition '87 Toyota MR2. Even though the MR2 isn't fast, it is so good looking and I would love to have it as my daily driver in the future.

Interesting story with the silencer ring. Dealership lets me take home an 03 dodge duelly. This is when I knew absolutely nothing about diesel trucks and seen everyone talking about removing the silencer ring on the internet. I’m also about 5 years younger and defiantly dumber. I remove the lock ring and decided to jump over to removing the piece out of the intake tube. Some friends randomly show up. We get to talking and I become completely side tracked in my work. Well without actually removing the silencer ring. I put it all togather and take off. The next day on my way to the bank to get the check on the interstate, I kept hearing this whine. I stopped and checked. See nothing out of the ordinary. So take off. That night I notice the truck is building no boost and turbo does not sound it spooling. Well when I pull it in the garage and inspect it. I found the silencer ring had gotten eaten up by the turbo wheel and the wheel was trash. I know nothing about diesel or what I have just done. So I just take the truck back and say “I don’t know what happened, it just happened”. They took the truck back and refused to fix it and took it to the auction. What a hell of a lesson learned. Luckily that happened before I bought it.

Not a silencer ring but a Turbo Air Guide. It's there for a reason and the engineers knew what they were doing but it's the vehicle owners preference to do whatever he/she wants.

Not sure why you're listening for a different sound at the tailpipe. That silencer ring was in the intake side of the turbo, not the exhaust side. It dampens the whistle/whine of the intake vanes drawing air into the turbo. Removing it makes that louder. It has no effect on what the exhaust sounds like. If you (thought you) heard a difference at the tailpipe, it was likely a placebo effect because that's what you expected to hear. I removed the ring on my '94 12-valve years ago. It does nothing performance-wise. It is simply for sound abatement, but it definitely makes a difference in that department. But, again... not at the tailpipe.
