The -94 world cup was special as hell in Sweden too. We won the bronze match against Bulgaria 4-0 after narrowly beating out Romania by winning at penalties in the Quarterfinal as well. I vividly remember watching the celebrations on TV when the team came home to Stockholm. It's also customary for there to be a World Cup song every time it's played and the song of that year - När vi gräver guld i USA/When we dig for gold in the USA - is still being played, almost 30 years later. I started playing myself when I was 7 a year later. There is not a single 80s/early 90s kid in Sweden that doesn't know the goal celebration routine of one of the Swedish stars Thomas Brolin either. Running, jumping, and doing a 360 spin with your fist in the air. Magical times.

Yes, very accurate and great comparison. Anyway in Italy we had another historical joke-band like Nanowar of Steel. They were "Elio e le storie tese". They played for more than 30 years, making parodies of each kind of music, they were musical geniuses. They were the runner up in one edition of the VERY serious music festival of Sanremo, an Italian television event well known even in Europe. During a night of the Festival dedicated to the New Singers/Band, every Big Singer/Band should have played just one minute and a half of their songs to recall to the TV audience his/their song, before the last stand. Elio e le storie tese played the entire song in one minute speeding up the tempo! 😂😂😂 It was epic!

Here is the thing Gatto said Nanowar has one serious (in the sense no - mock) song on the album. People maybe surprised that it is this one. I think especially American might wonder why? Football/Soccer is taken very seriously in the great Football nations like Brazil, Germany, England, France, Argentina, Spain and Italy (and many more of course). Each nation has their own Football trauma in form off a tragically lost match. France might name the World Cup 2006 so much stuff happened that you can make a movie about and then they where finally defeated by Italy, by the player that was responsible for it (Materazzi). For Italy in recent time such a Trauma was the Battle of Pasadena, I which Italy lost in Penalities, by missing 3, one of which was shot by Italy's best player Roberto Baggio (The divine ponytail), it went like a mile above the crossbar. So for Italian where football is a very serious thing, this is a massive defeat and is still remembered to this day... So it kind of is a serious song....but the video makes it funny for the rest of the world.

Joakim Brodén is up for almost anything IF he likes you (and is having fun)! This is (at least) 13th feat. he's done to date (there is also a lot of random live appearances form him). Not even the first "funny" one. This is also the guy who wrote the "metal trilogy", regularly refers himself/ Sabaton as "the Village People in camo pants", sings nursery rhymes, Y.M.C.A., Gloria Gaynor or ABBA in between songs at Sabaton shows! Not to mention all the silly jokes! As he's said, he takes the history & music seriously, but not himself! They even had a live score follow of a Sweden-Germany football game during their show in Germany 2012, with Joakim threatening to cut 1 song per goal by Germany!

Some facts to better understand the video: the names at the beginning of the video are parodies of players who participated in to World Cup final in the United States. was played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena in 1994 and for the time zone the race was played with impossible temperatures (which are described by Joakim Bróden). During the solo the voice that is heard is that of Bruno Pizzul, historical commentator of the Italian national team matches.

This is my favorite Nanowar of steel song right now because it sounds so much like a Sabaton Song. I also love this song because Jokim Broden is in this song. Some context: this is about the 1994 FIFA World Cup Final in the USA, which took place in Pasadena, between Brazil & Italy. Brazil´s team was the favorite, but the Italians managed to hold a draw up to the end. So, they went into penalty kicks and Italians lost because Roberto Baggio, who was the star player of the team, missed his penalty kick. Poor guy never got over it, according to his biography and he was famous for his ponytail back then. That´s why they sing ".... the divine ponytail lives on!" Also, Taffarel who is mentioned a lot in the song, was the Brazilian goalkeeper.
