Yes the dancing girls above the stage are go-go dancers. Yes The Jerk was a dance your grandmother did before she found the rocking chair. Yes Jr. Walker & the AllStars still sound perfectly funky and great today. Yes your grandmother knew how to party before you were even born. Yes I recommended Jr. Walker & the AllStars for your reaction and I'm really happy you found them. The next banger to hear is "What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)?"

Jr. Walker was the James Brown of Motown. He took funk and soul with a little bit of blues to Motown. But unfortunately he hasn't received any recognition for his talent like the rock and roll hall of fame or a Grammy.

They're doing the Jerk ,The Pony, The Twine.Yes The Shotgun was a dance. The twist also was in.The Monkey,The Boogaloo,The Filly,The Swim.Soooooo many dances. Wearing your hip hugger pants, and mini skirts, with your high heel shoes and dancing all night, having fun. We had the best music and dancing was a release from all the stress of the times. Jr. Walker and the All Stars was a blast. To be able to play the sax and sing too took some energy. They rocked the building. That organ and sax was like an invitation to get on the floor.

I was just a kid when this hit came out in the 60's. But I am so glad that I had the opportunity to see them perform live in San Francisco in the early 90's. Even though they were getting up in age, they gave the most fire performance! At a local club on Divisadero Street called The Box.

Jr Walker and the all stars are from the Motown sound and made amazing Motown music. When you think of Motown you think about Marvin Gaye The Supremes Stevie Wonder The Temptations The Marvelettes, however Jr walker and the all-stars get skipped over when they made some of the biggest hits for Motown DEFINITELY check out their music.

There was a ton of dancing in the 60s-the 60s had more different types of dance than any decade-every month had a new dance craze-Twist, frug, the popeye, slop, mashed Potatoes, Jerk, boomerang, the swim, the pony, the madison-just to name a few.

Love y'all's reaction, and selection of songs. I've been thinking about it and have concluded that one reason the music back then sounds so good relative to now is for a few reasons. Back then, everything about the process was expensive, and so you had to be committed and serious. Today, anyone can tinker around and get it online, so there is a whole lot of garbage, which makes the gold shine the more brightly, by contrast. Mind expansion and loving one another were the main themes, in contrast to so much today. So the world needs your positive energy, and music. Dancing is always better than fighting. Peace & Love.

This song is so full of fire even hard rock stations played it well into the eighties. The studio recording captures their live energy while sounding so much better. And Jimi Hendrix played guitar for them for a short while too before going on to his solo career.

I live in The San Francisco Bay Area. If you went down Broadway in San Francisco, in the 60s, in some areas of that street there were a lot of topless bars, etc. and in front of some there were go go dancers in those glass cages dancing, some close to topless. This was to bring people in the bars. I have to say this caused a lot of traffic jams especially on the weekends.

That was a back in the day energy level. I used to play in a band with James Brown's drummer, Early Johnson. The clubs we hit back then were so wild it was electrifying. Groove was the thing. Get out your body was the vibe. Shakin and whoopin. Movin like the whole room was alive. End to end, wall to wall FUNK. Man I miss it.

This is a clip from the old 60's TV show, either "Shindig" or "Hulabaloo". Both shows featured current bands and singers. Both had go-go dancers. Had me a pair of the short white boots!!! Both shows came on at night in primetime. Couldn't always get home in time to watch American Bandstand in the afternoons or Soul Train on Saturdays. There was also another music show called, "Where the Action Is" which featured Freddy (Boom Boom) Cannon and Paul Revere and the Raiders (featuring Mark Lindsey). Jr. Walker and the AllStars were a great group!! Check out more by them!!

Autry DeWalt Mixon Jr.(7/14/1931-11/23/1995) from South Bend Indiana was a multi-instrumentalist for Motown during the 60's also he performed with band Foreigner in the 80's. You got it Shawn, Fridays was about getting ready to go out and dance. But it wasn't so much about partying. "Partying" had a different meaning and connotation back then. It just meant going to a party. At least for my crowd of friends, parties were something adults had, young ones had dances and hops, it was all about the music and the dance. You danced all night. You had to be in good shape too! Boy were you glad when a slow one came on. During the week you practiced the dances in front of the mirror in your bedroom. But by the 80's things changed and there were not that many dances to go to and you were forced to go to a "club" to dance. That changed everything. Took away some of the innocence as clubs had cover charges, and alcohol and different vibes. Many of the dancers got into roller skating or ice skating at that time and skating rinks really took off in the 80's as a place to hear and roller dance to the latest music. Glutz that I am, I could never catch on and soon my dancing days dwindled away as I grew older.
