Sam & Dave were an American soul & R&B duo who performed together from 1961-1981. Sam had the higher voice & Dave had the lower voice. They had lots of great songs such as "Soul Man", "Hold On, I'm Comin'", "You Don't Know Like I Know", "I Thank You", "When Something is Wrong with My Baby", "Wrap It Up" etc.

You must react to their monster hit "Soul Man" (1967). It was written by David Porter and Isaac Hayes. It went to number 2 on billboard's top 100.

Nice! Al Jackson Jr. lays down the killer beats on this one. Booker T. & the M.G.'s were more or less the house band at Stax Records and they laid down some killer grooves back in the sixties including this one. Tasty! Five plus decades later and it still slays. When you're ready for more classics from Sam & Dave, check out "Soul Man", "You Don't Know Like I Know", and "I Thank You" along with many others.

Muscles Shoals sound: "They provided musical backing and arrangements for many recordings, including major hits by Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, and the Staple Singers; a wide range of artists in popular music also recorded hit songs and complete albums at the studio. Their initial successes in soul and R&B led to more mainstream rock and pop performers who began coming to record at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, including the Rolling Stones, Traffic, Bob Seger, Elton John, Boz Scaggs, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Dr. Hook, Elkie Brooks, Millie Jackson, Julian Lennon, and Glenn Frey.

Iconic R&B and Blues Duo from the 1960s. Not sure, but I think they were on the Motown Label. It doesn't matter, these two guys were the standard of cool back in those days. Great soul, and great music to dance to. This sure takes many of us back to our late teens and early 20s. Thanks

There is a reason why a good number of commercials use music from the 60's and 70's, some even from the 50's, the music was so good. Give a listen to one of the best soul shouters from back in the day, "Wicked" Wilson Pickett, namely " In The Midnight Hour" and " Bring It On Home To Me". Another one to review is The Godfather of Soul, James Brown. Listen to " I Can't Stand Myself (when you touch me)" and " The Payback", you won't go wrong. Keep the reviews coming guys.

Yeah, this song was part of our soul set, like 54nomore stated, with Soul Man and Knock on Wood and In the Midnight Hour, but this one has a strong rhythm backing, and it can be done even if you use no horns, though they definitely help, thanks for reacting!

This song reminds me of summer. I remember this song being played at the roller skating rink back in the 70's. when I was a teenager. It was fun watching the good skaters, dance to this song and do their tricks. They would really get into this song and skate backwards or do other difficult maneuvers. While skaters like me, hung on to the railing for dear life and watched. :) Thanks for the happy memory.

Hey Shawn & Mel, I love your reactions and openness to our older music. I was wondering if you'd enjoy occasionally introduce us to some current music, rap or hip hop etc that you really enjoy. Maybe let us know why you like the music and what you appreciate about the lyrics, maybe help us even hear them better? It dawned on me that this is kinda one way. I'm open to hearing and maybe gaining a deeper appreciation for some current music and artists that you value.

I became a teen in 1960 and being from Toronto close to Detroit and Chicago where Mo town originated we got all the soul as it was rolling out and when the Beatles and the English invasion happened in 64 we were more into black music than anything else. Dan Acroid is from Toronto and is the iconic Blues Brother with John Belushi. The border region of Canada and America was the test bed for Mo town music. It was on all the pop music stations of the time. First time I got really loaded on Black Velvet Rye Whisky was listening to Sam and Dave and singing at the top of our lungs to these legends. Now I'm 74 and it still makes me move. Soul Man next eh.
