I think that Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic are one, but the Classic Sonic from Forces and Gens is different. I think there are 2 Classic Sonics where the first one did not experience Gens, but the second one did experience Gens and Forces. How is this possible you ask? Well, Classic Sonic from another dimension was brought to Gens and Forces, because of the Time Eater and the Phantom Ruby. They affected other dimensions which causes that Classic Sonic was brought to Gens and Forces. I actually think Classic Sonic is just Sonic from another dimension and that the other Classic Sonic isn’t Classic Sonic, it's just Modern Sonic from the past.

I always liked the whole Split Timeline thing, as we already had a Multiverse with the Sonic Rush games, and it’d be an easy way to avoid Time Paradoxes, also a Multiverse doesn’t always make things meaningless, it just depends on how it’s handled, which there are much better Multiverse stories out there than modern media would have you believe
@heroicgangster9981 Жыл бұрын
Honestly multiverse stories are interesting if they setup altering dynamics from the "vanilla' universe. Or if they are just seen as different universes to expand story on. I think that's why people would want a Blaze game, so that we can see how her own adventures are different from Sonic especially with her being sold as the Sonic of her own universe. One who handles all the responsibilities and everyone relies on because of her role as a princess.
@Gnidel Жыл бұрын
For me the multiverse could work only if there will be more crossovers like Forces. Otherwise it's just bloat that makes it harder to flesh out both universes.
@tarheelpro87 Жыл бұрын
(Third Paragragh is probably Tl:Dr just to warn you, I went on a tangent there) I’m just now hearing about people hating multiverses or things like that, I never really saw a problem with it. Like in South Park the Panderverse, Kyle says it’s an excuse for lazy writing, but I don’t see it like that. Unless he’s talking about how stories make complete contradictions of what happened in a previous story, and they excuse with that, then I totally agree. But a multiverse where we have separate timelines of events going on, or every universe has entirely different people and events in it, I think it’s cool. It could be a good way to excuse something like a big crossover or whatever, like Super Smash Bros all while being canon since they’re all separate. Which I don’t think SSB games are canon, but that’s just a thought. I’ve heard people say similar things about Dragon Breaks in the Elder Scrolls Universe, where time gets messed up and multiple timelines of events occur at the same time in the same world, and eventually connect to each other in the main timeline. They say it doesn’t make sense, but if you ask me, 90% of Elder Scrolls makes zero logical sense. I know it’s all about what’s been “established as a thing in canon” well guess what? It is now, deal with it. I don’t like the Ahsoka show, but c’mon, fighting Starfighters in space? “It’s not established in lore” but there’s a billion things that can also be going on that we haven’t seen in the Star Wars universe, how the hell do you know it’s not been established? Should Usain Bolt be considered not canon to real life since nobody else ran as fast as him, therefore it’s not established in our understanding of the World, and he’s non canon. That can’t be true though, cause you can’t decide what’s “canon” or not in the world, and it’s a known fact that he did run faster than anyone else in recorded history. Some things are just beyond our comprehension. Like how did a Big Bang occur because of pressure and/or gas build up? Those things had to have come from somewhere, but you’ll end up with nothing. Same with every religion’s God(s), Everything in the world comes from something, so how do we start at nothing? Nothing can’t make something. Shouldn’t that be “lore breaking” to our real world? To our established science? Some things are just beyond our comprehension, no point in arguing about it. We learn new things everyday, if we passed off everything new we learned as not true because it hasn’t been established as true, I wonder what society would look like, if there even would be one. Some things are just complete dumbass bullshit dumped into a story that make no sense, but spare me with the “it’s not established in lore” when you were probably just fine with everything else introduced to a franchise.

"a Multiverse doesn’t always make things meaningless, it just depends on how it’s handled" Are we talking about multiple universes, or infinite universes where every possible outcome happens somewhere? If the former, sure. If the latter, well no then it makes things meaningless by definition. If everything you do always makes a new universe where the opposite outcome occurs, you could never meaningfully accomplish anything. If Amy Rose were about to be killed and you try to save her, if you do save her you'll simply create another Amy who gets killed. If you fail, you'll simply create another Amy that gets saved. You can't alter the outcome in any way whatever other than which event you personally witness.

I wouldn't mind a timeline split, so they're not as limited with future Classic games, but I understand why they want to try and connect everything together. All I want at this point is just for them to focus on making future stories good. Time travel can be involved, but it shouldn't always be involved because the lore will get really messy really quickly. Everything should be able to work within the confines of its own story. Plot wise, games can build on each other, but they shouldn't always need to. This discussion kind of makes my brain hurt, so I hope people can understand what I mean. 😅

I just have two questions about the timeline: 1- Where is C.SONIC using or learning the Boost? Because in the ending of sonic generations, C.Sonic was trying to use the boost, ok. But when he travels back, while the story continues, he should have perfected the boost in, for exemple, S.Mania or even in superstars 2- if c.sonic started learning the boost AFTER he met m.sonic, so...... (here it is where the question start) Before generation how did the "original sonic" (m.sonic) learned the boost? because in the "original timeline" there is no OLDER version of himself to teach or inspire him to learn the boost. Now I´m thinking the correct question is "Where in the timeline sonic learn the boost?
@themustachioedfish5988 Жыл бұрын
This would be an example of the bootstrap paradox. The knowledge of how to use boost has no origin point, it's an endless loop. In the real world, it'd be a good indicator that what's happening isn't possible, but in fiction you can get away with this sort of thing.

So the whole theory of the split timeline...it may actually have just been the result of a bad translation. The word "sekai". It seems to also have caused the anger with fans about the two worlds concept Brief summary: the word Sekai has been used by Silver in 06 and Rivals, Izuka to describe the human and animal games, and Tails for Classic Sonic. It directly translates to world, but can vaguely mean universe or society. Recent fiction has also allowed for the use of eras of time. When Izuka said there is a human world and an animal world, he more meant Sonic travels between different societies. Silver has said Sonic was responsible for destroying his world, when he was treating his era as a different world (this one didn't cause as much of a stir). But most of all, the worst translation into dimension just caused all this confusion.

I'd like to think that they were one timeline but once eggmen used the time eater they basically did the same thing time breakers do in sdbh and dbxv2, they splited the timeline into 2 timelines which caused classic sonic to exist, once this happened, sonic 1 - sonic superstars became their own timeline and the start of modern is maybe like sonic x, season 1 happening, adventure 1 & 2 happening then sonic heroes and keeps going till lost world, this all shouldn't have happened but eggman messed with time and broke it, to make it more sense let's say that sonic mania didn't even existed in the first place but the time splitting caused it to happen, then it caused sonic forces, let's also say that the Phantom ruby was the issue of all of this timeline thing, eggman used the time eater, probably splited timelines by creating the Phantom ruby, then destroying the Phantom ruby caused classic sonic to disappear and the the two separated timelines to fuse once again, which causes sonic and his friends to get their memories back since in frontiers knuckles mentioned something in sonic 3, and sonic superstars has already happened from the start and there wasn't time paradox or anything, for sonic 06 I don't think solaris messed up with time or anything since solaris had full control over time unlike time eater who has little control over time and space which means it might mess up everything with a single little mistake.

There HAS to be more than 1 timeline, because what about the handheld titles? For example, there are 2 versions of Sonic Colors & Sonic Generations and they have different adaptations than their handheld counterparts. If the console adaptations are the true versions of the story that has to mean the handheld versions are either non canon or on a different timeline completely. Same goes for Sonic 1 & 2 on the genesis having different adaptations than the game gear versions.
@nightwish1453 Жыл бұрын
the weirdest thing with the handhelds is that there is an inconsistency with them, you have advance and rush that are canon and team racing actually references colours ds like the mother wisp and it being the only game prior for silver and blaze to interact outside of 06. with colours many are on the belief the ds is canon but console is the visual presentation of it. the game gear games go in and out of doing an adaptation of the game to doing it's own thing like sonic 1 on game gear has the same plot of genesis but sonic 2 Game gear has a plot line that could take place right before the genesis sonic 2 then there is triple trouble which does have a manual that for the sake of marketing had it written after sonic 3 (despite knuckles being manipulated again, though funny enough the fan remake fixed this issue)

Split timeline makes more sense if you actually want to fit all these things together. If Generations was the only instance in which Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic met, it wouldn't be too much of an issue. Sega are having their cake and eating it too because they're essentially treating Classic Sonic as its own universe whilst insisting it's all connected and implying that the redesign is a canonical change that Sonic went through. This causes a lot of problems, like the timeline placement of certain games, or new Classic titles introducing concepts that are chronologically forgotten about (those emerald powers would've been real helpful throughout Sonic's modern adventures).
@nightwish1453 Жыл бұрын

Yeah no, by trying to deny the Neo Classic split instead of embracing it, they're just digging themselves into an even deeper hole. From the start, there were a lot of problems with the story of the franchise, from minor inconsistencies (Tails lacking confidence in SA1 despite having multiple solo adventures by that point) to major contradictions (Metal Sonic being in several classic games despite not being recovered from Little Planet until Sonic 4 way later) but then Generations came out, which offered the explanation of a potential split, and then Mania and Forces further enforced the idea with more new details and suddenly all the confusion started clearing up. Now if we saw Metal in a classic game, we could safely place that game in the Neo Classic timeline after he was recovered early in Mania, without disrupting the story presented in Sonic 4, and vice-versa. Tails' confidence? Put his spinoffs in Neo Classic and have them feature a Tails who had already met his future self and been inspired. Mighty and Ray being missing? Now we know that they were captured by Eggman, but only rescued in Neo Classic. The Chaotix having two backstories in Knuckles Chaotix and Heroes? There being multiple "Death Egg II"s in Sonic the Fighters and Sonic 4? All explained by Neo Classic, and without having to leave behind a single game in the progress. The Neo Classic split was not only the solution to nearly ALL of the timeline's problems, but it made complete sense, being simple to both understand and explain. However, they're now trying to treat this solution like it's the biggest "problem" of all, for seemingly no reason beyond "streamlining", which in this case seems to essentially just mean "split bad, linear good" with no regard to actual logic, and especially no regard to the needless collateral damage this mindset is causing on the REST of the timeline, as trying to cram everything into a single timeline again at this point results in like twice as many plot holes now as there were pre-Generations, and these new ones are impossible to resolve without just spamming the excuse of "Uhh, the Ruby retconned it" any time that anything doesn't make sense. Like come on. The only thing "confirmed" by all of this recent info is that SEGA might already need to replace their new Lore "Manager", because they're clearly not a Lore "Expert" if they don't understand how big of a mess they're making in their attempt to "streamline" things. Some streams NEED to be able to branch off in order to function properly, but instead they've built a dam like some impulsive beaver and, unless they realize their mistake and tear it down, it's only a matter of time before this flood of plot holes gets even worse than it already is and starts to drown them.

Hell, it barely makes any sense for the mere basics, like Silver's very existence. About THIS particular aspect of the lore, time travel, a concept that will never be competently handled anywhere no matter how much Copium we decide to inject, it's better to just focus on if the story is good and move on. Time travel in all of the games mentioned above except Forces works well in the confines of its own narrative and that's all that matters for me. What these people are saying is so interesting because people have their own theories on both versions of these Sonic's. I'm totally on YOUR side, because you gave a good explanation that we don't want no multiverse stuff. Got to keep it Canon, you know? I think that Classic Sonic IS a previous version of Sonic, because Classic means original, and as we all should know our bodies change as years go by. We get bigger, taller, and stronger, and that's exactly what we're seeing with Classic and Modern Sonic. But again, that's my guess, and if someone else has their own theory on this, then OK! the split timeline theory i feel was more of reluctance of not wanting a multiverse but at the same time it would help figure out the logic of the lore in the series which when it comes to lore there rarely has been a time for it to be discussed especially when you have characters like silver and eggman nega having very far few sources about them from a game that doesn't put a lot of focus on silver's future in a non-06 world. doing one simple timeline helps streamline things however because of the 2010 games it does create problems and more so the plot holes, case in point classic in gens is exposed to seeing all the characters that modern has met up to generations and if classic becomes modern despite being gens he must recognise everyone when he meets them when they appear and that's a big issue that can be easily resolved through some memory wipe which has yet to happen in the canon or stick with the timeline split. the split doesn't make whats prior less important as modern sonic still went through all of it, it just makes the 2010s make more sense. Heck 06 can still be looked at as canon thanks to colours ds and having it take place before rush which funny enough rush was to take place before 06 but in the final product they just didn't utilize it's continuity of rush with the role blaze had in that game and how there was no mention of it thus it now makes sense having rush after.

Imo they retcon it so that its easier to bring back characters like Sticks, Trip, the chaotix, mighty, ray, the idw chars and any new characters not from archie as NPC in the mainline game without explanation, which kinda makes me excited, like modern trip or detective vector giving tips or sticks selling trinkets. How is Classic Sonic younger than Modern Sonic? They are both 15. If they were different ages, how old is classic? What about modern?
@heroicgangster9981 Жыл бұрын
Honestly the singular timeline split sounds less limiting than what one normally might think. I think they can just make it easy on themselves when making Classic Sonic content is making those characters have a modern version or at least modern way of existing actually possible just like how the current Tailstube mention how Mighty and Ray are not MISSING but just somewhere else apart from the modern casts' adventures. Also to me, if Shadow, Blaze, or Silver were to be playable in a classic story game. Just... make them non-canon characters/story events or something.

Its sad but I think im the only one to realize that as community we have a ton of power that we somehow dont know about. If we really and i mean REALLY wanted a change we can just do what we’ve done before, Mass outrage. Remember sonic 06? Because of the mass outrage they ditched the adventure formula and playble characters for 17 years. Remember ugly movie sonic? Paramount had already said they wouldn’t change his design but due to mass outrage we forced a hundred million dollar company to walk it back and change it. We literally bullied them into doing it. We should just create a hashtag like #hypersonic or #SA3 and do it again

I like that they are trying to mesh everything together neatly (including the IDW comics). Most of the time, the powers that be don’t think that far ahead to make everything make sense later down the line. This is easy to follow versus some other fandoms/series where it’s convoluted and all over the place….. *coughkingdomheartscough*

5:49 I 100% AGREE WITH YOU!!!! I'm glad that they confirmed it's one timeline. We have too much multiversal crap now and whether managed right or wrong it messes with the story in some shape or form.
@shupasopni Жыл бұрын
Multiverses aren't time related. Also this messes with things more. It doesn't make sense that Eggman found the Phantom Ruby in Classic and then is clueless abt it later, or Classic Sonic not having prior knowledge of all of his future friends, since he met them all twice over in both Gens and Forces.

None of this fleshing out of the lore thing is fun one bit. If we're going to have this much of a hard time then this clearly means: 1. This is beyond us and this is completely useless. OR 2. We just need to try even harder. Even so I'm just tired of how this franchise(or to better put: These Lore Managers)is trying too hard nowadays. Having staff members who really love Sonic it's good but their love is put to the wrong place if they're focusing on THIS OF ALL THINGS 😬. This is what happens when you created a franchise with no structure or holding. The time to make this franchise a respectable and well understood piece of media WAS GONE A LONG TIME AGO. IT'S NO USE. I love Sonic but not when Sonic becomes this Mega huge research project 😑 Where's the fun in that? Let's just move forward with new adventures.

Why was boom sonic in the thumbnail?
@SonicHubYT Жыл бұрын
Because the video is about SEGA confirming that two separate timelines for sonic at one point existed so the idea of the thumbnail is about what would happen theoretically if an alternate timeline progressed into a separate future

Having a single timeline is probably for the best when it comes to the games because they never established the multiverse properly. Archie did it well because they have a dimension exclusively for multiversal travel which would have been perfect for the games, but it’s too late. Now Sega is stuck between managing how the Classic Era affects the Modern Era and how Modern affects Silver’s era. I agree with Ian that there needs to be a reboot.

I would just make every game its own thing if it were up to me (outside of direct sequels). This seemed to be the philosophy of the past, and I think it worked. All the characters comments about past games in Frontiers felt super jarring and unnatural. Sonic has always been a style over substance franchise, I don't think the franchise needs a deep catalogue of lore and a timeline of events.
