I can’t agree unfortunately. I personally despise having to pay for all these annual subscription things, especially when they force you to get the subscription in order to get all the features the other version doesn’t have, although it could. And with annually new versions, they make you pay for every update on top of that. I guess who finds this normal grew up in times where they didn’t see any other business model and consider it just fine. Sorry about that.

So many people say the Mac gaming market isn’t worth supporting etc, but the devotion of those involved in the creation of these tools suggests otherwise. I wish Apple would do more to help, but maybe Sonoma is a sign they may finally be willing to do that. I really hope they don’t clamp down on the use of these tools by third parties. It’s in their interest to let us use enjoy our Macs to the fullest.

Apple have actively helped Codeweavers numerous times. They added a specific exception to the Mac OS kernel allowing Crossover to run 32bit apps when other 32 bit apps are explicitly blocked. They're supporting third party tools

In the end, even if GPTK / Crossover / CXPatcher combo is cool and allows cool stuff, I think when Asahi is going to be done on the GPU part the gaming is going to be far superior on it. - First it's going to be 100% free, no licence to buy every year. - Second, less translations layers overall.

I don't think the performance will improve significantly as the bottleneck is x86 to arm translation. Most developers don't even bother to make a linux version, let alone arm version.

With 23.5 and D3D12 support in Sonoma, I'm able to play Dirt Rally 2.0 at 2560x1600 at High detail at steady 50-60 fps on MacBook Pro 14" with 16GB 12C/19C! This is simply incredible :) What a great software CrossOver!

I will never understand why apple didn't open the license for companies to use their porting toolkit in their games, it could be such an easy way to open the floodgates to tons of games without the use of extra software. But perhaps they also want developers to invest the time into making a dedicated solution for each game so that it runs better than a generalized toolkit. Pros and cons to each side, but I prefer being able to play more games vs being able to play 1 or 2 games at 20 extra FPS. Edit: However, CrossOver have been doing amazing work and I am more than happy to support them since this is the best way to play games on mac rn.

We had an explosion of native games 10 years ago when Valve and Apple cooperated. How many of those games can be played on a modern Mac again? Meanwhile, their Windows versions are still playable due to Crossover.

It's not "20 extra FPS", it's common for native games have over *double* the performance than games using Game Porting Toolkit, and MetalFX upscaling also doubles it once more. It's such a huge difference, as well as adding HDR, proper windowing support and shader compilation, as well as many macOS-specific features. No, FSR (on Windows games that support it) is not a good solution, it looks terrible and doesn't improve performance like it should (sometimes it actually makes it slower!) For people running base M1 or M2 chips (98% of people!) using so many layers of translation vs native games is the difference between "the game opens, but I can't play because it's so bad and slow even at lowest settings" versus "the game is playable and runs nicely!". I don't think you've noticed that Andrew's videos use the highest-end of high-end Macs, this entire video was recorded on the M2 Ultra and it's still getting like 60FPS or less at 1080p... when they would be getting over 120FPS at 4K for native games. Translated games also often have bottlenecks and get the same bad performance regardless of settings (i.e.: the game runs at 20FPS no matter what you do, it gets 20FPS on 720p lowest settings and also 20FPS at 4K highest settings)

Hi. Thanks for this great video. I followed all the steps, bought Diablo 4...but in the end, the game never starts...It seems to start, then the Play button reverts to Update. When the game is updated, it starts all over again... Am I doing anything wrong? I'm using a MBP 14", M1 Pro with 16Gb RAM

Technically, yes, this tool does comply the agreement since all it does is to copy essential components from GPTK to CrossOver. However, it would also gonna break because eventually Apple will drop this tool. But that's not that concerning because some shady hands would try to preserve that tool already.

crossover is updated to version 23.0 , but cx patcher is not supported to crossover 23 , it is supported for only version crossover 22.0 , plz help and fix it

Though there really only needs to be is a note. You can get the last version of 22 if you purchased 23. You just go into "archived versions" in "My Downloads"

Well, We Happy Few was a game that worked on the GPTk and was a black screen on Crossover. I installed the Patcher, disabled DXVK and run the application, loads the UI but still the game is black. I have no idea why the game doesn't seem to work like it did in the GPTk but I'm sad lmao

Had no luck with Crossover on the Epic Games Launcher. Heroic Launcher worked with the Game Porting Toolkit though. Rocket League on the MacBook has never been better!

As amazing a tool as Crossover is, it is not exactly helping the Mac gaming situation. If we want fully native games on Mac, there can't be easy methods of running games on macOS. However, please don't get me wrong though; I do fully understand that Codeweavers are just trying to provide and survive in this situation, and I'm very happy to see the result of their hard work.

Ok so after doing this, I’m having the common issue of not being able to open Hogwarts legacy for a second time. Looking through the “C drive” and program data there’s no hogwarts folder to delete like if you ran it through gameportingtoolkit. What is the fix to get this to run on crossover now?

Does it actually work better or is it just a better user experience? The reason I'm asking is that I've been playing SIGNALIS via a Porting Kit but the game broke about 2/3 in. Then I learnt how to use the Apple's game porting toolkit but it didn't fix the issue (there were some improvements as well as new bugs). SIGNALIS totally colonised my mind, so I'm willing to try anything to finish the game.

I'm getting stuck with a blank black screen that is from Steam Wine64-preloader. I think it's the login screen, but it's just a black box that eventually goes away. Then the Steam icon shows up with no screen with it.

Is there a way that we can create a petition for requesting Apple to work with CodeWeavers and creators of MoltenVK/Proton? I think they should have created a partnership between them all so they can integrate all three technologies together while still each sharing a piece of the pie as the saying goes. I would not think MS will care either way because it will just bring in more revenue with mac and linux users gaming.

It’s due to translation layers that each aspect of game has to go through before final results. It’s not running natively, in fact some games can’t even take 20% advantage of processing power if this gets natively M2 Ultra can may wreak 3080
