Thanks so much for stopping by everyone! If you feel compelled to further support the channel consider joining. I've posted many hours of bonus videos on there including one I just uploaded where I teach Nathaniel Drew to shoot 16mm film. Making KZbin a living without shilling generic sh*tty products is super difficult and the membership is helping me make that happen. I'm also so grateful to have support from brands like Musicbed that I actually believe in and have genuinely impacted my life in such a positive way for such a long time. Okay that's all, see you for Stanza 3!

Hey Shaffer, I've watched your videos for a while, they are absolutely enviable. I take delight in your color grading, appreciate your deliberate cinematography, and thoroughly enjoy your heartfelt storytelling. Your videos shine against the drab majority of content on this site. Thank you for making good videos and bearing your soul for us to see.

How curious. I've been a writer for most of my life. Then I got into amateur filmmaking. And I fussed and fretted over my shots only to learn what your buddy Nathaniel suggested - if you tell a good story, your viewing audience will forgive a lot! And for any of your followers who wish to write better, I offer this...just write more. If you keep at it, it starts getting easier. Thank you for this reminder that writing is simply living put into words.

i think another cool point is just writing for the sake of writing. writing to get something out of your head, without any notions that they need to fit within a video. writing that way can be so liberating. and then lo and behold by the end of the scrawl you see a lil gem of a video idea within the messy freedom of expression.

Left this video feeling hope for YT. The amount you've invested in a platform that rewards the opposite of what you stand for is so encouraging. Love seeing this like minded community form, and a few of of the channels I appreciate head to boonies of CO to create with you. Keep cooking brother 🦅

When we talked, you told me to never give up the writing/storytelling for visuals and camera-stuff. I think for a while there I made that mistake... Or was almost on the verge of it, at least. I got addicted to visuals. Vimeo, underground youtube, all that stuff. My competitive nature could not stand that I can't make what they can. I wanted to become the best filmmaker I could. But I realised recently, that looking back on my old work, the thing that makes me like it or not is purely the message. The words I say, not what lens I say them to. So I'm taking a step back and diving deep into how I can become the best writer/storyteller that I can. Thanks for this reminder, Shaffer - you're a legend.

omg I love that there us a behind the scene! I ve seen the Stanza video on Thursday (4 days ago) and was wondering how the behind the scenes for this was going! I also love that you called it the American Stanza, bc I had an art history lecture on Isabella D'Este (in Mantua, Italy) where we talked about the Studiolo and the stanza. (so Italian, and Renaissance. She was in c contact with all the big artists of the time, speak Da Vinci, Massacio and co.) so I like the allusion to this with your "American Stanza" (not sure if this was a wanted connection, but it's one I made, because of my background) I always love your videos, because they are so funny and I'm into camera film and video film and love filmmaking, so this aspect is really cool as well! always well curated videos of yours. I'm always showing it to my friends. Videos about writing are really important! (we also have lectures on writing in art history) and I ve watched a video about making videos in General and they said that one should look at scripts and imagine how one would film then and then how they actually filmed it. (and see how they write) so really cool you're doing this as well. (edit. also, I swear if I get shadow banned for his....)

Just getting started on your channel. I’m 80 and I can’t help but compare your work here to my readings in college English literature classes. You’re almost there, but in case this is another wording that touches someone I offer: good literature comes from the writers reaction to life; beware of trying to control life - to get the wordings that you want. You mention feelings. You mention the good story will carry the video. I’m going to enjoy digging through your content - even for the mental stimulation. But also excited for what you will give to the world. Have a good life! And give it to the world!

I'm psyched about the waves that this level of thinking and operating in the world will create. This - and the videos written from this framework - is so refreshing and 100% what we all need more of! Cheers man, appreciate your work

Now, that's interesting🧐😅 The past probably 1 1/2 months i've been educating myself about storytelling because i realised that's the next step for my filmmaking work. On every film that i edited i got frustrated because of lack of good storytelling. I almost wanted to quit making filmmaking because it was so frustrating. But then this process of learning about good storytelling somehow crossed my path and now I'm soaking it all in. I initially subsrcibed to your channel because first film i saw got me hooked rightaway with your storytelling. So this one Now is just perfect timing! Keep it up man!

up until now, this very moment, i had never considered taking writing seriously, like really reflecting on the notes i scribble I would put them into my journal and justify the "stream of conscious" by saying I would come back to what i wrote and explore it more next time and it worked... to an extent, I would re-read the notes, sometimes add some ammends, but i never truly reflected. I never truly sought to improve on my strategy of letting it flow out of me. I guess i always just hoped it would be a passive thing, by doing the task over and over again, i would gradually improve, like exercising a muscle. And sure, maybe that has happened, a bit. But a world-class weights champion doesn't go to the gym casually, and if i do want that ability to externalise and have impact, than i would need to move onto heavier weights Thanks for this video, as always, beautifully done All i ask is that I'm not shadow banned aswell

How could Peter do this!! Currently in the very early first 0.01% of my creative writing exploration and I am all for it. I'd like to thank you for a lot of my inspiration to begin down this path. Whether it's videos or music or personal growth, whatever the product of my writing is, the writing will be what ties it all together!
