How do you become a makeup hoarder? By loving makeup and seeing your favorites get discontinued over and over again. Every time I like something I have a second where I wonder if I should get a backup... Which is stupid when the product is new, but I'm broken inside, I've lost so many favorites over the year... No wonder I had commitment issues and still have trust issues 😂😂😂😅🤪 (Yes, I'm being way over dramatic)

That's exactly how I ended up with (And still have) 6 Street wear lip/eye crayons in Blood. Because Revlon changed the color a bit not too long before they slowly started to phase out Street Wear. ;) They're still good and, ngl, I still use them occasionally. >.>

Understandable. Urban Decay made my favorite foundation & discontinued it years ago. I bought all I could when their website clearanced it at $10 (originally sold for $40). Nothing UD has created since is anywhere close to that one and, to this day, I’m still looking for an exact dupe.

The only thing I stick to expiration dates is mascara and liquid liner. Powders I spritz with alcohol so they last longer. I toss foundation and concealer when it smells like paint and buy far fewer now.

Palettes are so hard to declutter. Also for me it's highlighter I LOVE HIGHLIGHTERS!!!! I just got the new one from Rare Beauty. I LOVE IT!!!!!

I let the makeup tell me when it goes bad. If it smells, feels, or works off then it's gone.

I knew that naked palette was gonna be the hit of the eyes! I say if you still love something keep them it's your body nobody else's so keep as long as you like! This look did turn out very flattering even if older products

This is such a fun video idea! The oldest item in my stash that I still use is Mac Russian Red, which I got in 2018. I have 2 Nars Pure Matte lipsticks from 2016 that I keep only because one I wore on my wedding day (Valparaiso) and one is the most flattering hot pink on me that I keep around to hunt for dupes (Carthage). I loved those lipsticks and they got discontinued so fast. My biggest discontinued heartbreak is actually so boring- Bareminerals gen nude eye primer. It was the best and I can't for the life of me find a doe foot eye primer that I like even a fraction as much!

I've only had to chuck one palette because it was "expired;" the Too Faced Gold palette. I knew its life was over, simply because it stopped performing as it did before. The shelf life posted on products are a guideline for the consumer, as well as for protection for the manufacturers. Cream products go off considerably faster than powder, as well as the so-called "clean" makeup. The "clean" formula often uses inferior perservatives, often causing them to turn south much faster than traditional formulations. Creams are easier to determine because of the smell and the consistancy changes as a product starts to go bad. With the exception of Mascara; unless you're pining for an eye infection, you'll probably survive without incident using your old makeup. So, enjoy what you have, and use it before you'll have no choice but to toss it.. 😉

Haha, mine was the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. In my opinion, it “went bad” faster than it should have. Also, agree on the “clean” makeup. That alone makes it a poor value to me.

I was so upset when the Naked palette was discontinued, I had to get rid of my first one years ago, but I had bought it again before it was gone, and just recently had to toss that one too. I don't keep foundation for more than its expiration, because my skin will get irritated and don't want to deal with how long that healing process will be. If lipstick starts smelling bad that's when I toss it, but I use lipstick for as long as I can.

Gorgeous look! I especially love the eyes and the blush. Rosy, warm, glowy blushes look so pretty on you. Bravo for gritting your teeth and touching the Naked palette long enough to put together an eye look! 😂 Hope the mascara didn't cause you any irritation! Lots of my favourite makeup products have been discontinued, but what's even worse are the skincare products that have been discontinued. Dozens and dozens, to the point where I almost don't want to admit how much I love something because I know that as soon as I do, the brand will somehow find out and axe it. (Yes, I'm paranoid, but I've been burned so many times that it starts to feel like a personal attack.)

I love the Naked Palette OG. She was so, so good to me. I only threw her out last month (21 years old!) but I hadn't used her in years. When it came down to it, I have newer (and hygienically safer) palettes that give me similar looks. But I will ALWAYS remember her fondly ♥

It's crazy you brought out the Duwop Lip Venom bc I just watched Jen Phelps' new video about the hottest makeup at Sephora in 2004 and she has an old 2004 Sephora catalog with the Duwop Lip Venom in it. I've never heard of it actually. Not bc I'm not old enough but bc I was never really into makeup until more recently. I'm DEFINITELY old enough lol.

I loved original UD Naked palette. I used it until too many shades got super panned. The velvety case got sooo dirty. Luminoso was a fave until the compact broke. This turned into a little bit of a “chopping block” episode, and it was so relatable. Love from the spooky Pine Barrens in NJ

Maybe this will make you feel a little better. I have a small little personal 'vintage' (yikes!) makeup collection at this point. I have one lipstick that goes back to like 1981 - Maybelline Sunset Frost. It's still a beautiful color, and here's the kicker, it doesn't smell like it's gone bad. You know what I mean. We all know what lipstick gone bad smells like. :) I do not still wear it. I haven't worn it since 90-91. I'm hoping to find a color dupe at some point, tho there's a lipstick lab (not Bite) that has it in their library of lipsticks they can dupe! :) Two powdered kajal eyeliners. Weird sort of pressed powders in sticks you can sharpen, bought at JC penny's back in the mid 80's. Two Maybelline pen eyeshadows in lovely metal packaging, one in a soft purple, one in yellow. Also came out in the midling-late 80's. Bounce ahead to the 90's I have some OG urban decay when they were still cool and not owned by L'oreal. I have a handful of their original singles and a couple of the 2.0 shadow pots, still pre-l'oreal. UD lipsticks in Bruise and Mentropolitan. Bruise still hasn't gone bad! but I don't use it. Metropolitan went bad a long time ago, but I keep it in specific because I'm still dying for a dupe (slightly frosted cooler neutral deep purple tinged burgundy without any trace of pink). JANE! I have two Jane eyeshadow singles - forest green and light lavender. 5-6 lipliners that haven't gone bad! 2 tubes of Browned Down Red lipstick, one that hasn't been used, the other one is almost gone, and neither have gone bad. These were from 2001. I still use the lipstick occasionally because it's a lovely color and formula. Revlon Street Wear! I have a good handful of their lip/eye crayons in various colors. Some have gone bad over the years and those were tossed. But I have like 6 in Blood because the frosted side was a dead on dupe of OG UG'd Gash lipstick. They haven't gone bad. I still use them. But only the ones in Blood. Haha. Nothing else is so old. Oldest CP supershocks and palettes I have are 5-6 years old at this point. 6yrs old being a UD rainbow palette that I honestly still love. I just check through everything every 6-12mo and give them the snif test, draw test with pencils, and see if anything looks like it's gone bad. ngl, makeup just doesn't last as long these days, not since everyone flipped out over the bogus studies about parabens, which were superior preservatives. :( Had a liquid lip go bad in about 4 months from CP. Have had some lipsticks go bad in a year (bullets). It makes me so sad, but I know the makeup companies are more than happy about it. If shit goes bad faster, people need to rebuy it more often.

@@GlitterFallout Most of them bring me joy. :) They're an interesting tiny bit of makeup history of the last 40 someodd years. But the UD stuff and the STreet Wear stuff, they make me *sad*. Because they remind me of what UD and Revlon used to be and were capable of. Then L'oreal slowly ruined UD and Revlon just... gave up. That's all I can think to say of Revlon. They gave up. They still have some great lip formulas and some great nail polish, but somewhere along the line, they just gave up on being great.

And your reaction to applying the shades from the UD Naked palette, I swear I always end up doing the same thing. 😂 Every time I’m like, whoa this is just a really good palette! I’m so ready for this… I have old make up I keep to compare to new makeup so my collection still looks similar…but I get nostalgia and use them for fun… ( I also clean with alcohol in between use and wash my face within a few hours not a whole day)

I still have that version of luminoso and I’ve almost completely panned it! I have a new luminoso version waiting in the trenches 😄 (purchased two weeks ago). Have to say though, the ‘new’ luminoso has a slightly different, darker colour.

The most absurd shelf life date I’ve seen, so far, is the ABH eyeshadow palettes. They say 6 months. 6 months! Eyeshadow palette!

I still adore the og Naked palette. Although i do think they reformulated somewhere along the way. I repurchased one when i finished my 1st one and i swear the newer formula was slightly different. The shimmers were less creamy and a bit thinner. But i still think it's a great palette. It always looks good and put together when i wear it.

Have you tried the NYX Born to Glow foundation? It's not new by any means but it's my favourite glowy foundation. And, yes, I still love highlighters and will continue to have excessively glowy cheeks til the end of time

I love this!!! I'm a cool tone lover, so I have the Naked 2, but mine's more like 2015. However, the Naked palette is so iconic when it was being discontinued I did think, "Maybe I should buy that ..." 😁 I have one Stila liquid shadow that's dark green, which I too need to use before it dries up. And ... I bought Champagne Pop before Becca closed because of you!! It is really pretty. Becca. Sigh. Still my favorite highlighters. Also, I can't do the plumping glosses because I once had an incident with a jalapeno that actually burned my lips and that was no bueno!
